Anyone privileged enough to watch this video was just treated to an inside look at one of the most gifted and humble actors of our time dropping jewels of knowledge on the masses! Thank you Mr. Haur for your incredible and unforgettable roles in 3 of my favorite films (Bladerunner, Batman Begins & Sin City) I plan on watching all of the films you've been in up to this point in your career and will keep an eye out for future releases. I wish you nothing but years of continued success!
Hollywood should give Rutger at least one big last role playing a viking chieftan or something. I was surprised to see him in some Solutrean documentary, not credited but still very cool.
Silence is one of the most beautiful sounds. Sound is what we talk about now and music is part of that "setting."
Sound is half of your picture.Sound and its composition is more important to me that the picture because it is origional it its design.Mixed, manipulated or not.It reaches the soul directly. Not too much, not to little.
I see lot of people asking about music. Everybody knows some musician right? Ask them to make something for you and even if you don't know anybody, theres still royalty free music you can get online. Also you could try getting the right atmosphere/feeling with just ambient sounds. Record the sound of traffic, wind, air conditioner, rustling of leaves, birds chirping, floorboards creaking or whatever, and in editing use those sounds to build the right atmosphere for your film. You dont need music
Hi Rutger! Your channel is so interesting and inspiring.. Going back to music for a moment- what if you'd like to use music that is incredibly obscure and not well known? Suppose that even if you could afford to purchase rights from the creator of the music you want to use in your film, it it would be impossible because you simply couldn't contact them or find any information on them? Quentin Tarantino has a great deal of old music in his movies...Does he own the rights to the songs he uses?
Can you tell me how to position the camera to comfortably talk to it? i got a tip from will smith he said, never look directly into the camera he said look at it to the side but never at it. but i want to learn more i loved watching and learning make more of these types of video's =) I enjoy them! Thanks filmfactoryshorts!
@spcmn77 This copyright thing is for protection to all. You don t want to have a finished film struggling to be seen because someone may have a claim ow ownership because you did not check enough. Music is complicated. So have someone do it or use none if you can t solve this in time.
Bedankt! Pulling the camera sitting on a blanket lying on the floor is something that never occured to me before. I just tried filming a banana peel and it was truly smooth )
While working on the RHFF in 2009 this simple "introduction video" was needed to help the 12-16yr old student who wanted to shoot a first film. They made "Butterflies" after this in two days. This video was shot in my hotelroom. I was practing what i was teaching.Later i added english subtitles. Made with joy, love, and no money.RH
I have 2 favourite actors, yourself (I've met you once, at the collectomania, M.Keynes) and Mickey Rourke is superb too.
I see you both in different ways though.
You are most certainly the brain, in my opinion. And Mr Rourke I class as the heart. I know you've worked more than once with Mr Rourke, so hopefully you get my meaning.
I am too late to start a career in films, but have enjoyed this advice greatly. Thanks for posting
Rutger, you are a great teacher, great video! I wanted to pursue this career when I was much younger. I took some related classes in college, but never got to a degree due to health. Your class would definitely have gotten me started.
Being a writer, I imagine my novel as a film. That would be a dream come true if/when it happens. Readers insist that it will. I hope they're right! Thanks so much for the lesson, Rutger. ~Sam~
I know Rutger is Dutch, but this is the first time I hear him speak Dutch.

The copyrights need to be cleared, period. It is one of the very important things as they can stop you from screening your film later.

I know that final cut was definitely part of the edits we worked on. I m sorry i forget what the other format was.
But ofcourse people are completely free to use whatever software program they want if it suits them better

Does FilmFactory utilise Final Cut Studio as part of the course?
