South Ossetia obviously doesn't want to be part of Georgia and is trying to gain independence or reunify with Russia. The Russians protect them. Georgia sent in their military to 'reclaim' Ossetia and Russia responded. I don't see either really as the 'bad guy,' but if I did have to pick one it wouldn't be Russia.

According to the contract there are peace-keeping forces in the conflict zone. Dagomys contruct was signed after Georgian military assault and genocide of Ossets in 1992

For another thing, Russian ctizens had absolutely no business being there. It is as if for example Germany wanted piece of Poland and gave German citizenship to separatists in Poland then instigated hostilities between Polish government and separatists and finally when the war would break out they would invade Poland pretending to protect German citizens and take the land by force. This is what, I believe, happens in Georgia now.

Z.Gamsakhurdia, president of Georgia, abolished autonomous state of Ossetia and launched a war (1991-1992). During the period of independence (only 20 years, 1918-1922,1992-2008) Georgia started 9 wars against S.Ossetia and Abkhazia
