  • I do wonder why people say Reloaded was a bad movie. I think it's a great action movie, it's well shot has great action and set pieces, all without the stupidity on the level of Transformers. Sure the cliffhanger sucked and the 3rd movie sucked even more, but the action in this movie is impressive.

  • what happened to just enjoying film? yeah some things don't make a lot of sense. But think of timelines with sequels. reloaded isn't the next day after the first film ends. They could have developed their defences against machines. Personally i love how shit Zion is. and i love how in the 3rd film we see so much fighting in it. It gave the characters a lot more depth when we saw how vulnerable they were when in the real world as for the last two films all we've seen is super humans.

  • I disagree with your statement "Movies are for everyone" very much. To quote Steven Spielberg, "There's an impulse that we should make more movies for broader audiences, but would should never forget that we are an audience of individuals." I'm not saying that The Matrix Reloaded was a good movie. I just think fine that the movie brings up ideas about post modern philosophy in their movie and just because people know little about the subject doesn't mean they can't inject it into the movie.

  • Just only word for this all these babling....S.T.F.Up......you know nothing about Matrix and it's philosophy...grow up man....grow up...!

  • @TheSatyam182

If so, why do you not explain it in your comment? :P

  • what a pleasent little intro

  • your right these movies are pretty bad, but you are worse

sorry dood, but get a grip

  • @Omega7runner Retard.

  • Thankyou...

    just...Thank you so much.

  • lol i thought the matrix was great but your going into all this philosophical junk that no one gets and lock is just a name why do you have to research it lol

  • @shino475

"your going into all this philosophical junk that no one gets"

That's exactly his point. They just bombard you with a load of bullshit so the audience thinks "oh, this must be clever, they're using big words and such". It's exactly the same as technobabble in Star Trek Voyager.

  • I think we can all (or at the very least most of us) agree that the Matrix was great, the second was weaker but still fun and the third is bullshit but almost *kinda* fun.

  • If anything at least the matrix theme and music are cool...but that's where it stops pretty much.

  • The public has no defense against these shitty sequels.

I was teaching a class when this came out. And a student told me and the other instructor that he couldn't make it to class the day this came out. This movie superceded everything else in his life.

Just as Lucas knew people would see his prequel movies, regardless of whether he actually wrote good movies, the Wachowski bros. knew this would make money.

  • @charlesvan13 I am sorry but I think it is unfair tio think bad works espicially in an art this subjective would come from a lack of trying, Also Lucasd had really a lot odf story and plot and caracter screentime, so he tried and also they were utstanding masterpieces who people just misunderstood!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I know this is a review, but does anyone know the background music that's playing here and the artist?

  • good matrix reviews! They opened my eyes. I never realized how bad these two films were

  • this guy lost me when he called the first Matrix a decent film..........everything he said after that really didnt matter cause the first Matrix was an amazing film........too bad I enjoyed where he was going.

  • It was a moral speech...he couldn't make it sound like the grim reaper was hiding in their washroom....

  • It was a movie don't expect too much much more entertaining then the current ones.

  • If you want sound practical advice... dont study philosophy....

  • I tried to read that first big paragraph but i got about halfway before i said" fuck it, too many big words"

  • Comment removed

  • I love how the Matrix movies went from cyberpunky hacker stuff that was really cool to Battletech with mechs and crap. What? Revolutions was the worst but Reloaded was okay.

  • i like how you say " im going to keep the philosophical reviews down to a minimum" and then get right back into philosophy

  • LOL at 9:21!

  • You simply visited wikipedia ,then you copied and pasted the criticisms of Baudrillard.

    Weak.

  • @SonytoBratsoni Both the Baudrillard and the Butler criticisms come from the same philosophy journal, and the latter is not quoted on Wikipedia.

Let's give him the benefit of the doubt, hmm?

  • Are they really singing "...his words will get you fArther..."?

  • Oh man just fucking shut up you have no idea what you are on about.

  • These reviews were what got me into matthew's videos.

  • wacth the movie in mundo mystico

  • I watched this review and this guy doesn't understand shit as far as the Matrix goes. He uses big words to act like he understands everything when he can't look past what is on the screen and understand a bigger story or meaning.

  • the EMP is the only MAJOR weapon agianst the machines, like a bomb

  • @superhuman295 the only MAJOR weapon? I don't know about you but those big guns seemed to be pretty major weapons in these two films.

  • @DARTHPIZZAROLL LOL yeah, but i mean, look at all those setinals. the big guns are just useless, somewhat, the EMP is a last resort, but it's not used in strategy

  • @DARTHPIZZAROLL and the EMP can wipe out ALL TECHNOLOGY, INCLUDING A CHITLOAD OF SETINALS, thats pretty major

  • OMG this dude, is a typical brainwashed moron who’s intellect has gone to waste. HEY IDIOT, why don't you do some real research, and stop trying to articulate yourself into making anyone think you're anything more than clueless. One more shithead in the world spreading terrible misleading information about subjects he knows very little about, while thinking he’s some great philosophical genius of some sort. Lmao Yet this douchebag can’t seem to give an accurate analysis

  • @paulgw3 Prove it.

  • @paulgw3 So true. I didnt like these movies when they came out. But I have probably researched and looked into their meanings more than any other- especially things such as The Architect. And if people look, their are tons of different meanings. Anyway, if the brainless slobbering masses didnt like it then they can go watch transformers and drool over CGI.

  • ” in relation to the metaphors written within. WHY?? Because he’s obviously just another jerkoff with an opinion and has very little knowledge of much, other than the basics of what’s in your face, and then very amateurishly recites the dialogue of a few particular scenes without any validity in any points other than displaying a child like depiction of his stupidity and lack of mental capabilities of controlling his mouth and the language he chooses to use.

  • MACHINES!!!!

  • @Zezlemetkun I don't think it's necessary to read philosophy books to watch the Matrix sequels.

  • One of the officers says to him... "#babluhdudubuduhpissedoff#" LOLZ! I died.

  • No one dis the matrix

  • Oh yeah if you paid attention the EMP IS the only thing that can stop the sentinals those mechs got wiped out in revolutions they put up a fight but got wiped out

  • @comegetit2010

"EMP, Electro Magnetic Pulse, it's the ONLY weapon we have against the machines" - Trinity, The Matrix.

She said it was the only weapon they had.

  • @comegetit2010 uh..... actually i'm pretty sure i saw some sentinels get destroyed in that battle.

  • Matrix movies

    Good Characters

    Good story

    Good action

    STOP FUCKING BITCHING

  • im gonna kill someone

  • THEY HAVE BROUGHT THEIR ARMIES. MA-CHINES! ARRRRGGGGHHHH!

  • Morpheus just saw The Warriors. I'm surprised I didn't hear him say "Can you dig it?!!!!"

  • Matthews monotone impressions are so funny

  • 9:16 you know now Matt. I didn't found it in any way funny but I did found it annoying and out of character(like you've said).

  • OK here's the thing, The Matrix is ONLY for people who are dedicated to understanding it's message and complexity, I liked it not just for it being a fun to watch semi confusing but very interesting plot line, but also because i researched some of the symbolism behind it and it really made some great points. It's a love or hate movie without a doubt but the first was definitely the best all around movie. The last 2 were too complicated for some people

  • @slasherguitarmaster I see it excactly the other way around: You can enjoy both Reloaded and Revolutions if you ignore the philosophical stuff and take them as "suspend your believe" action movies. Action movies don't have to make a moral or whatever point. If you want to see a point you got the substantial problem that the architect's whole "give them the chance to get out" solution is braindead cause he could just kill the ones rejecting the matrix.

  • Forget the philosophy I freaking LOVE the Matrix movies....

  • The freeway chase is so freaking good it's a shame the rest wasn't

  • The matrix sequels were admittedly bad, but this review is fucking horrible. The movies were bad in such sweeping general ways that there is no reason to post your annoying voice on youtube nitpicking superfluous elements of the film that people were able to overlook but still know the film was bad.

  • If u see the trilogy by just only one type of conception vision u always will be upset with it. Some see the movies only by the conception of tecnology and computers, others by philosophy etc. But there is more then just tecnology and philosophy stuff on it. There are things about predestination, religion, faith and divinity.

  • You have some good points but I think I'm going to stick to pizza rolls.

  • Your criticisms over how Zion looks seem like a bit of a low blow, considering you weren't supposed to know what it even looked like, and considering this is an attempt at post-apocalyptic visuals.

The humans don't have time to look pretty while they're struggling to survive.

What if Trinity was only describing the weapons capabilities of their ship? Come on, did you really think the only weapon the humans would have is an EMP? Get a grip lol

  • movies are most definitely not suppose to be for everyone

  • stop wasting your time asshole . this is just a movie. go do yours

  • this review is spot on, i loved every second of it. totally agree with what u say here.

  • wow clicked on fucking DS9 and it takes me to the matrix. nice....

  • THIS is why you're in my subscriptions! Loved it!

  • LOL Dude, you're frickin' hilarious and likely spot-on. Oh, and I would also like to see ConfusedMatthew make a better film too, but not in the stupid-sarcastic way that the *other* commenter made below.

  • LOL good point its the only weapon we have against the michines oh apart from the millions of michine guns we have

  • i'd like to see confusedmatthew make a better film

  • YAYYY! YOU LIKE LOCK FROM LOST TOO!

  • 9:29 to 9:31 i thought he was charging up to do a hadoken lol

  • Wow. Deep. I`m an artist and I think when I pop off I`m going to really hate it when everyone starts to psychoanalise and philosophise (yea, word don`t exist)everything. Sometimes we just- do, y`know, there`s nothing deep about it.

Still, I learned something considering I was looking to hear a review of the Matrix Reloaded. Guess I should check up on this Mortimer J adler.

  • soo soo true. just saw numbuh 2 and its absolute garbage

  • Wow, great review.

Considering how confusing and f-ed up the Matrix sequels were and how well this review explains everything, this is probably the best movie review I have ever watched (among the best I've read or watched).

You're a really smart guy. Keep up the good work and thanks for posting this.

  • DEFINITELY among the top-three movie reviews Matthew has made in the pre-Stan/Ryan/Beth/Whatev era where his videos were analytic, full with image references, featuring great monologues and an awesome background music score...

Simply put, the reason why I became a subscriber to this channel.

We 're not seeing this kind of stuff produced by Matthew as of late...

  • @FPietros he keeps his full reviews on his website now, he only uses youtube to let subscribers know that his put them up there

  • @cloudcutter81 I am a subscriber too, as I said, so I know that Matthew keeps his reviews on his website. That does not change the fact that his latest work is not like the one he used to do (this one on the Matrix for example).

  • @FPietros i agree, this channel is really not what it used to be

  • @FPietros shame he failed so epically with his 2001 "review"

  • @FPietros I thought what he did with this review and the Star Wars prequels we're awesome but he's been rather lackluster lately like you said.

  • @FPietros I AGREE wut the fuck happend ???? these and star treks were awesome ! ...then it got all crappy

  • you know u are suppose to enjoy mocies not get so serious jesus christ

  • Huh... you're interested in Philosophy? Did not know that. I'm impressed Matt. So far, the review seems good

  • "Had an undying love for hearing himself talk"... khem-khem.... Does that by any chance remind you of anyone?

  • @Siladh1el Not really, he may say a lot but it almost always has a point, unlike the guy he mentioned.

  • "Movies are supposed to be for everyone" - How do you figure?

  • The first one was great.

  • DUDE U SUCK !!!!!! HOLD THIS KINDA STUFF FOR UR SELF !!!!!

  • I felt that Reloaded seemed like a jaded sequel from the first scene on. There didn't seem to be any freshness or real energy at all. It was also soon obvious that we'd be seeing the same footage again towards the end of the movie. I thought the first movie wasn't perfect but it had novelty value and was more entertaining than Dark City, which is a film I could never engage with. I honestly am surprised that Dark City is so popular and got such good reviews.

  • that was some hardcore sarcasm by the way.

  • hey matthew you should just talk about basic plot elements. it's not a reviewer's job to address mountains of bullshit exposition that's needlessly interrupting the flow of the film. this hokum gets a pass because it's technically philosophy.

  • @MrZingnigga

One could say it is philosophy. But it's bad philosophy, i.e. just bullshit. So it doesn't have any merit besides the quality of sounding deep to the uncritical ear, if you can really consider that an asset.

  • This reviewer is speaking about things of which he has little to no understanding.

Post-modern pseudo philosophy? Please, philosophy 101: There are no absolutes when defining a set of ideological beliefs that are governed by systematic thought.

WHO are YOU to decide what is fallible and incorrect? Please learn how to give sensible reviews.

90% of people on the internet don't give a shit about philosophy, so learn to actually critique THE LITERAL MOVIE. The philosophical aspect is sidestory

  • @Tekkenman101 Right, it's a sidestory....right. That's why the majority of the dialogue is meaningless tautology. Here's an idea. How about philosophy and Keanu Reeves DON"T mix! That is unless the Wachowski's wanted people to sneer at their silly little movies. I was laughing during the Oracle scenes. Was that their intention do you think? And maybe you can tell me, great and omniscient Tekken, was that the LITERAL movie or the pretend movie?

  • @dignankumar The literal story is obviously the fucking basic plot line. Man tries to save the world, flash, bang, boom. The kind of shit most people go to cinemas to see. The philosophical aspect of The Matrix is "side-story" in the sense that it is not necessary for the viewer to even acknowledge it in order to comprehend the series. Most people don't even understand the complex ideological statements made throughout the film. Keanu played the role fine, he wasn't suppose to be charismatic.

  • @Tekkenman101 Man tries to saved the world. That's the plot line, really? So why does the hero choose to save his girlfriend or "resurrect" her instead of saving the world.....only to have have her die a cheap death in the next movie? If those ideological statements are just sidestory why am I, the audience, forced to listen to a god-like architect blabber for several minutes at the CLIMAX of the film? I don't know much about philosophy but I know plenty about movies. And that's bad cinema.

  • @Tekkenman101 "Most people don't even understand the complex....." so the demo was really small for a sci-fi summer blockbuster then I assume. That's a recipe for success.

  • And my biggest problem with the Matrix films overall is that they are all about the show, the image, the cool fight scenes. In other words, the story doesn't really matter as much. How do I know this? Why are they always wearing sunglasses at night, in dark rooms? None of this is real, right? So I guess it's just a cosmetic option then. After all they want to look all cool and shit when they are fighting the agents. After all, not wearing shades might draw attention........wait.

  • Like many I saw the sequel because I liked the first Matrix but haven't seen the third because this one made no sense whatsoever. I also didn't bother seeing the third Pirates for the same reason. Nothing in film is more tedious than smarty pants filmmakers trying too hard to impress their audience rather than entertaining them.

  • @dignankumar What kind of retarded logic is that? You have to finish watching the series to understand the entire story. That's like fucking finishing half your homework because you're too lazy to do the rest.

How about you increase your intellectual capacity if you're struggling with the movies. How dumb are people that they watch 2/3 of a series, but not the last.

  • @Tekkenman101 Good point except....wait, this ISN"T HOMEWORK! It's a fucking movie! Which means I am the audience and what's the saying? Fool me once.....

But I guess I should have shelled more money to these assholes for screwing up a perfectly good premise. And besides I don't live in a bubble. Everybody I know who saw Revolutions hated it. My brother who likes the second film....inexplicably said the 3rd film was horrible. I'll skip that assignment, Professor.

  • @Tekkenman101 How dumb are filmmakers who decide to make a series out of one good movie? There was no need to make THIS series. Tell me smart guy. What was accomplished after the first film ended? What happened in the next two that moved the story forward one inch? Pirates is a better example of milking a turd. There was no reason to extend that into a series except giant dollar signs in the producer's eyes.

  • @dignankumar

The first movie didn't accomplish anything, either. Just as pointless, just as incoherent.

  • I really don't know how the wachkowski's were able to make a movie trilogy so incoherent.

  • @roadkill818 I don't know if it's incoherent at all... They just took Jesus' life story and made a movie trilogy based on it. What's incoherent about that?

  • @confusedmatthew i like your reviews but my brother and i sortof agree that your reviews have stills and not actual footage or clips and would like to see a review with clips in it

  • no one on youtube cares about philosophy when wachting this review. you didnt need to bring it up. no one saw the matrix for it and no one every will, its just in it.

  • Good points throughout the whole video, man. I just didn't like how you played the same piece of music over and over in the video. I kept hearing those cymbal crashes whenever Neo runs up and jumps off that beam and it got kinda annoying. But, it's still a good review.

  • i dont like this review

  • At the time it came out The Matrix was my favorite movie (give me a break I was 13 year old), so when the sequel came out I was as exited as a human being can possibly be about a movie. Needless to say, I walked out an hour in and never saw the third movie even though I heard it was way better.

  • I think your reviews are funny and well thought out but man your way of talking is fucking annoying as shit bro. change the tone and the "think I'm the shit " way of talking and you might get more views.

  • I think u just hate the Matrix Trilogy and need an excuse to hate it!!!!!

    Just saying

  • @cheerstud800 He doesn't hate the trilogy, only 2 and 3.

  • This guy is a fuckin idiot

  • Well.. .from what I've seen of the fan base, you're pretty much in the clear no matter what you say about Baudrillard. Not too many of them have a clue who that is, much less that any of his works had anything to do with these god-awfully insipid movies.

  • This vid lost me with the fellating of "Lost". You know why The Matrix 2 & 3 are better than Lost? When they started writing the Matrix, they knew what they were going to have happen and how it would end.

And Reloaded did mention the love triangle at least one more time in the film (some thing never change...) and Lock also resented anyone who would listen sign and portents rather than a logical military defense.

    Worst review yet...

  • You hate dream sequences, but love philosophy that isn't postmodern bullshit? Wonder how you'd feel about Descartes then, considering every movie containing a dream sequence completely stole his Meditations on First Philosophy.

So much for studying philosophy for three years.

  • The bulwark of philosophy is rhetoric, which is itself a reflection and extrapolation of human abstract thought. So to me, it sounds like you have wasted three years of your time, the time your professors have, during this period, used in attempting to instruct you, and the money your parent's spent.

  • Dude, most philosophy is rhetorical. You should know that after "3 years" These are just movies and you're taking it too far. At their base level, they are rather thought provoking as far as action films go. The first 2 were very good, the 3rd one was indeed confusing and rather pedantically written. That one is ridiculous and it was written from a point of convenience, but i don't think it is fair to discredit the first 2 which are both entertaining and poignant.

  • I adore Matrix 1, I enjoy Matrix 2, I hate Matrix 3.

  • @1ERIC2YOU Nearly all intros to reviews are pointless in my book, but out of curiosity and because I like hearing reasons how is Matt trying too hard? You forgot an o in how you used too but thats irrelevant.

  • It obviously had no guns in the 1st, stupid.

  • Comment removed

  • huh??

  • @1ERIC2YOU

If you didn't get why he talks about philosophy. . . Damn. . . Because, you know, that's what the WHOLE FUCKING MOVIE is about.

He had to explain why post modern philosophy is bullshit, because that's what the WHOLE MOVIE is based on. He even explains this. Which sets up the true complaints about the movie. . .

The last part of your complaint is almost ironic. Just think about it, and it should dawn on you - or not.

  • I have only seen the first matrix. Seems like I should consider myself lucky

  • You should watch the next two a draw your own conclusions.

  • @bladerunner951 Oh I wouldn't say that, Matrix Reloaded and even Revolutions are badass movies if you see them for what they are: action movies.

  • @Altairograph they are action movies w/ pretensions of being philosophical journeys so, no, they are not "badass".

  • @bladerunner951 Not really, the series completes the story. You don't have to like the other two movies as much, but they all go hand in hand.

  • @bladerunner951 No, 2 is awesome, 3 sucks!

  • @bladerunner951 I would see them just once because there is some entertaining scenes. But Matthew is right, they suck.

  • Comment removed

  • @1ERIC2YOU Yes, he should follow the undoubtedly expert advice of some dude on youtube.

  • @1ERIC2YOU what is your issue with the review? I'm not picking a flame war, just curious. I thought he made valid points.

  • "Dey haff sint dere armeeez! Mahsheenz!!..."

    "Uuuuuuaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh--!!!!!"

    - End

  • The only thing worse than talking about philosophy are the people talking about it. But I'm just imposing my own impertinent and philosophical rhetoric.

  • I've actually found a lot of Aristotelians to be sort of PoMo lite: Jargon, assumptions, and master worship. Aristotle had lots of interesting arguments and lots of bad ones. That having been said, I've never seen Adler, maybe he's particularly interesting.

The first Matrix was interesting, not least because you had Buddhism, pomo, "brain in a jar", good epistemology, parable of the cave... The latter two just cranked up the PoMo and Christianity. Ugh.

  • I don't know if you study any theological trends... but your critique of the pseudo-philosopher @ 3:08-3:25 is the exact critique I have of many in the Emergent Church movement. Wow.

  • I think you clearly misunderstand a lot of what these movies are about. Which is okay, because I think the major flaw in the Wachowski's plan was that an average viewer simply couldn't comprehend everything that was going on unless they saw the movies multiple times (which is a lot to ask).

  • But you're actually reading to much into some of your complaints... Commander Lock wasn't named after John Locke. What makes you think this? The name isn't even spelled correctly. (And I love Lost, but their John Locke has absolutely nothing to do with philosopher Locke either.)

  • Also, I can only assume you fell asleep in the movie since the Morpheus/Niobe/Lock triangle is alluded to multiple times, and yes, even resolved! Lastly, Morpheus's character has altered a bit from the first movie to this one... he isn't calm and wise anymore, he has become brash and confident. Thus, the way Fishburne played the scene was actually fitting.

  • The name WAS picked after that philosopher, along with many other names there. Look it up :)

  • So what were the movies about you way beyond average mental giant?

  • LOL John Locke

  • My Tabula Rasa is not so Rasa anymore.

Everywhere I turn there is John Locke.

  • i think she meant the only weapon on their ships

not the only weapon humans had in general- then again i cud have interpreted wrong

  • "You don't climb into a T180 to be a driver, you do it because you were driven" "Its not how we change racing, but how we let racing change us" The W Bros couldn't resist modernist philosphy in their Speed Racer film either, and these quotes didn't make me think anyone was a genious as much as they loved flip-flopping stuff.

  • Post modernist philosophy is useless jargon.

There was an NYU physicist who wrote a joke post-modernist article, intentionally complete bullshit. He submitted it to a respected post-modernist journal and they gave it good reviews and published it.

It was supposed to be about the sociology of science, but it was full of obvious jokes like "Zermelo Frankel set theory is a good candidate for a progressive feminist foundation of science because it contains the axioms of choice and equality.

  • lol derrick rose=lawrence fishburne at 9:40

  • "Confused Matthew" and the "Irate Gamer" are what Youtube really is worth existing for... If it wasn't for them, Youtube would be a very senseless place to spend time on...

Worthless individuals like "Blunty3000" and similar nonsesical crap like him make "Youtube" a really sorry excuse for an online video sharing program...

  • @FPietros not the irate gamer. he sucks

  • The Irate gamer doesn't suck. He's as great as the AVGN and Confused Matthew.

  • you do know that irate gamer is a blatant ripoff of AVGN, right? That fact is common knowledge.

  • You do know that for many people the Irate Gamer is not a "blatant ripoff" of anything, right? So what you may think to be "common knowledge", in fact it is not.

Again, the Irate Gamer is a as great as the AVGN.

  • Only ignorant people don't know that Irate Gamer is a ripoff. Ask anyone, all of your questions will be answered. BTW, how old are you?

  • Only unintelligent people think that the Irate Gamer is a rip-off. Ask many intelligent people who know how to make a clear and unbiased critique and your questions will be answered... oh, and I 'm old enough to school you regarding some things, as it seems.

  • Actually, yes he is. He even uses the term "shitload of fuck" and does pretty much the same crap that AVGN made himself known for. You must be no older than a high school student for thinking otherwise.
