As far as slaves go, many were treated better than the workers of the industrial North. Owners gave them food, clothes, a place to sleep. Most Northern workers barely made any money, wore the same clothes day in and day out, had hardly no food, worked long, dangerous hours. Also, the North had slaves too

In these particular places women were essentially sold by their families to go and work long hours for virtually no pay for years at a time. As far as slaves go, many were treated better than the workers of the industrial North. Owners gave them food, clothes, a place to sleep. Most Northern workers barely made any money, wore the same clothes day in and day out, had hardly no food, worked long, dangerous hours. Also, the North had slaves too

In these particular places women were essentially sold by their families to go and work long hours for virtually no pay for years at a time. No one can argue that the southern slavery was anything but horrific, but it would have been abolished even in the south eventually.

@darkenedheart21 After the battle of Petersburg, Lincoln offered the south an unamendable amendment to allow slaves in the south in return for them returning to the Union and they turned it down. Almost no one has heard of this however because it would make Lincoln look bad which historians refuse to do. I am a History teacher In Maine and have lived here my whole life, so theres no bias in these comments, but I recognize the injustices the North infringed upon the South.

Civil War implies two opposing sides vying for control of ONE government -- the war between the states does not meet this criteria. I appreciate your sentiment, though, and I'd like to agree with you that we should be able to debate these events without vitriol or cynicism.
