  • A trip back too MS® Windows 98 inside Oracle VM VirtualBox on a Win7 PC, properly more than 40 times faster than my first PC I installed my original Win98 in 1999. Windows 98 was an okay OS but Windows 95 was even worse. Too speech the true is as a piece of shit.

After installing maybe 5 different games, and some DOS games. After only played for maybe four months the system soon became very unstable especially in windows Only solution was: Format C: and reinstall Win98 1 hours and 30 min.

  • It Says Rain Has Performed An illegal Operation. Any Help?

  • can you help me i wanted to play dos games that is a winrar torrent but it will not show why i have winrar

  • Unfortunately, the official rain website has vanished and very little about it remains outside a few posts on the vbox forums. So if you have Intel -- any that are Pentium III or newer (in my case a core 2 quad) -- stick with the Pentium Pro.

  • @benrr101 Rain is quite old now, as is Windows 98 itself, but I included a copy of Rain in the w98tools.iso (linked in Part 1's description) because it can be a little hard to find.

With it being quite an old program, it's obviously not going to have more modern processors installed, which leaves you guessing somewhat at the setting to choose. K6 works well for my AMD processor, as for Intel I bow to your superior experience. :)

  • hey this maybe a stupid question but where do i find the virtualbox drivers, are they in the programfiles or on the net

  • @voodoosoup Which drivers? I've included some drivers in the linked little disc image there in the description (ima check that link is still valid, but it should be) which should be everything you need (read: everything I used) to get Win98 running inside the vbox. Unless you're looking for some weird custom device driver it should work, but even if you are, Windows98 versions of the driver should work as-is with a virtualised OS.
