I was going to make a comment, but everyone who has before me has echoed my sentiments exactly. Thanks so much for posting these. Phil and the guys contine to be of great inspiration to me, and the music lives on forever, thanks to fans such as yourself who make the time and effort to find these treasures and share them with us.
Just a delight to find a "new" Thin Lizzy song. I never rush into music. I try to let each song by a band sink down. Some become favorites and others I listen to mostly because of variation. With a band like Thin Lizzy there are too many favorites dough to really pick a top 10 or 20 list. I would just leave to many out that I also think should get the recognition!
Thanks- an awesome song and one obviously written by a bassist. I love the bass line here. Lynott was so freakin' talented, and it's a terrible shame to lose him.
yeah Ryan you´re right, it´s a half step down ,... played this song for a new video of mine . will up soon some vids of me playing to the rare ones of lynott / lizzy !
That's true. When I play, my guitar is just normally tuned a half-step down to begin with, so I don't even think twice about it. Others might not realize it though, especially when trying to learn a rare song like this without the aid of nothing but one's ears.
@blacksabfan I would love to have this song man. nothing would feel better t me than cruising in my 72 mustang and blasting beautiful music. is there anyway possible i can get this song?
@ccfliege I used standard E tuning while playing this (bass). I have it on my videos. It's the version 1 with different lyrics. Standard tuning is quite unusual for TL. It's mostly half a step down.
you can find all this stuff on the 8(?) cd collection called "The Man and his music" all b-sides, unreleased stuff and radio tracks, great collection if you can find it
great track,i wonder...how often was phil singing about himself and his troubled lifestyle. All this tracks are great...would love to have them all on a cd collection.
p.s first lyrics that you'r missing are'god like, god like',couldnt make out the one near the end.
@blacksabfan hey where did you get the rare lizzy tracks, youve some really excellent lizzy vids.greatest irish rock band ever, did u see the classic line up live.they never get recognition they deserve
man what a song. all these songs sould be put on a special edition abum. all the great songs that never got heard but should have! this is just awesome!!!
how could this song not have made it on the thunder and lightning album? Its a great album but I think this would have been the best song on the album....
I read somewhere that "The Boys are Back" almost didn't make it onto Jailbreak. The managers didn't like it, but some girlfriend/wife really liked it and the rest is history. (maybe the details are off a bit)
many thanks to you blackabfan - it wonderfull to be able to listen to all these rare recordings. Gives me another insight to the talents of this great band and my music hero Lynott. His lyrics are often sad and I think that he often sings of himself.
Hey blacksab fan. I know i've said thank you but i can't say it enough times. Thanks man. It means alot. but thinking that there's never gonna be another song written by phil quite frankly saddens me. Thanks for softening the blow
It's a shame vertigo didn't produce this and issue it as a b-side on a 12 inch at the time of T&L. I think a lost song "Tears of a Madman" dates from 82 but it's rare as gold dust.
Yeah, I know of the title...but that's about it. Didn't even know it was from the same period. Probably something else 99.999% of Lizzy fans will never hear. Damn shame, but nothing I'll lose sleep over. Occasionally a few of the guys that have some of these ultra-rare tracks goad me saying I'll never hear them, and if I'm not going to hear them, then it's a fat chance any significant majority ever will either. As far as getting some of these rarer tracks available, I've done my part.
Thanks for the stuff you have put out. I especially like the demo stuff for solo lp 3. I guess it would heve been half Grand Slam stuff, half songs like "Freedom Comes", "Catholic Charm", "Partner in Crime". Phil hinted in his last tv interview that Gary Moore would guest, maybe on "Sisters of Mercy". Thanks also for "Silas Rat" single.
I know you don't really know, but I would like to ask you for your opinion. I have heard that the entire Thunder and Lightning album bar 'Cold Sweat' was written before Sykes joined the band. I thought about this, and then I thought about 'The Holy War'... That seems to be John Sykes influenced, and I never would have imagined Gorham writing guitar like that, (I know Sykes wrote the solo), so, what do you think?
Yeah, I see where you're coming from. A lot of those songs are riff heavy...not just "Holy War", but "Heart Attack", "T&L" and "This is the One" as well. The only one, among the uptempo numbers that sounds like a Gorham-built song is "Bad Habits". That said, since they all have the same sort of characteristics, I think Gorham probably did write those riffs, because Phil probably wanted heavier riffs.
Lyrics added to the info section. Much like what was on 81unnaed81abc's post of this song, although his were taken off a website that had inaccurate lyrics. I listened to the song and got 95% of it. The other stuff I'm not sure about has ?'s by it, mostly toward the end.
This almost sounds like a continuation of "It's Getting Dangerous", which was sort of a sleeper hit off of Renegade. This would have been a great closer for the Thunder & Lightning album.
Fucking love thin lizzy, fucking love the song, this is sheer undeniable proof that the fabricated music produced today is utter bull shit, there is no 'real' talent or bands we'd regard as accomplished musicians. Thank the lord for thin lizzy
