Its sad that at this level, TKD is pretty much a roundhouse kick martial art. If you do it well, you can win 80% of the time. It use to be different.

@skrimpshidy Exactly. That's why taking Tae Kwon Do classes is a waste of time and money. I would not recommend any child take classes. Parents would spend thousands of dollars, so all their kid does is a roundhouse kicks. Otherwise they are all prepackaged programs designed to collect money on promotions tests. Tae Kwon Do has to be the worse and most useless martial arts.

@BushidoCode72 I see what you mean. As a Judoka I respect all other forms of martial arts. For some reason there seems to be more McDojo's centered around Tae Kwon Do than anything else. It's a shame. This is a good sport.

cool thanks, i didnt know that, i dont know exactly what style i do but its neither itf or wtf its a weird combination i think, but i mainly get close with punches so they cant get their legs up, so i would probs not be too good at tihs side of tkd

yes from what i understand about wtf style you can only score from hitting them into the air or onto the floor right? which makes punching hard to score on, hence all the kicks

Don't forget that a TKD fighter WTF ,ITF,GTA...FITA...FITT, doesn't matter what kind, is always able to strike by kicks fast enough as somebody would do with fist, and let me tell you; a kick is worst but much worst then a fist!!!

Maybe you should enter a TKD tournament in Korea. I'll garauntee you it's different than World Federation rules.

Just FYI, WTF doesn't use tapping force no-contact force. It's full contact. If you know any physics at all you'll know that an angular roundhouse carries three primary forces behind it. I think it's a stupid kick that's dumbed down touranments, but at the same time it hurts to get hit by one.

Karate and kungfu are traditional martial arts, tkd is a sport THUS practical.

And practical means better, a tkd blackbelt would basically be better.

Oh and taekwondo, when done right can mix up with grappling perfectly... and tkd in mma, so what ?. you really think ufc fighters are actually ultimate.

Okay, in both 1988 and in 1992 Juan Moreno was seriously screwed out of a Gold medal. Both times he fought the Korean and kicked his ass. 1988 was in Seoul and there was serious bias twords the Koreans. Not to mention all the bribes they gave which got Un Young Kim into trouble

Chu is much more controlled and accuracy is one of the main criterias that olympic refs look for.

They are both about the same in skills though.

But romos is a very awesome fighter indeed.
