I hear the only reason Jordan doesn't play guitar for DT, is because JP doesn't like the idea of 'some gay Winger shit' (his words, not mine) with a keyboard/guitar player in the band. Apparently the same problem was encountered when Derek wanted to play a rhythm guitar line on 'Lie' during the Awake tour.

yeah he uses a talk box built in to that keyboard. All he has to do is talk, and it will sound like he is singing but he is playing the notes on the keyboard and it is changing his voice.

It's actually a vocoder. Similar effect to a talkbox but you speak into a mic and it processes your voice through the keyboard, making it sound all robot-like.

A lot of the tone is produced by his actual singing voice as well. You couldn't mindlessly talk and get the sounds he was making.

jordan rudess is pretty much a virtuoso, i wouldn't be surprised if he ended up being really good at playing the bass as well, or a few other random instruments. as amazing as the rest of the boys in Dream Theater are, Rudess has them all topped easily when it comes to natural musical ability.

If you think about it, John Petrucci was an awesome guitarist at the age of 25. With so much experience as a musician, it's not hard to imagine Jordan being able to learn guitar relatively fast.

I'm actually a keyboardist myself and have just started learning the guitar as well. I'm really shitty so far, but maybe I'll be as good at the guitar as Jordan some day. =P

Yeah he does. I went to a Dream Theater Show backstage and got a guitar signed. I had a Fender Strat and he said that it was the first guitar he bought. We talked about it until the guy behind me pushed me to move onto John Myung
