The video really makes it hard to understand what really happened, but I can at least tell that it was a good fight.

Yes, bare knuckle boxing is different from Boxing and MMA. It's a bit more real than boxing, but it's still boxing. MMA is a no rules competition, and the people who fought in the first UFCs (for instance) when there were neither gloves nor rules in MMA, were as close to real fighters as it gets.
I am not a fighter at all, but I did recently read Mr Gormans book and found it extremely interesting, in it he mentions this fight, and what he thinks of both contestants, I would have liked to watch this video but for some reason it keeps freezing after about 1 minute, so unfortunately cant comment on how good either man is compared to professional boxers.
