there is a huge difference between what is socially unacceptable and what is religiously unacceptable. They might agree on some matters but not all. This case at hand is a gov trying to mess with religion to win favor w its ppl and they are messing with it in a way that empties the meaning and spirit of the religion as expressed by NewMan0Egypt in arabic.

As for keeping it to himself, yes its bad taste but there is nothing to indicate others should not eat or drink infront of us.

Fasting comes w allowances for some cases not to fast&nt required from non-muslims. How would a woman like it if shes approached by police & asked why shes not fasting?how about a non-Muslim?Read in the newspaper about how fathers were taken in for buying stuff for iftar for their family!

I personally feel for a person who is Muslim and wastes this opportunity to get closer to God but i cant force any one.

Finally, the legal basis the police used is really silly& its a political ploy

The ABC of democracy is the rule of the Law and not the rule of the police. Eating during fasting hours is not prohibited by the law and I dont know upon which basis they interrogate people and make them pay this big some of money. Every person should take his own responsibilities in front of God without the need of a tutorship from a corrupt government or a police state. If we let it go, the day will come in which women will be imprisoned for uncovering their hair or wearing pants!

No one has the right to evaluate the level of worshiping of Allah & then force the religion's followers to worship Allah in certain way. our lord commands by certain things to do & another things to avoid & only God & his prophet (pbuh) put the punishment for violation of particular things like drinking ,extra marital sex,killing.etc & that doesn't include less practicing of pillars of worshiping like prayer & fasting coz it's a private relation betwn God & man despite of lack of it is a sin

أنا متفقه جدا مع راى "جيهان" امان الشارع اولى بتطبيق عقوبه على من يعتدى عليه ...اما بخصوص موضوع الغرامه على المجاهرين بالافطار فدى حاجه كويسه لكن محتاجه حكمه فى تطبيقها خاصه مع وجود غير المسلمين فى مصر وكذلك اصحاب الاعذار من المسلمين- مثل المرضي وكبار السن وخلافه

I agree with you there is nothing in Shari'a commands to punish the non - fasting ppl but it's the governor's role to protect the public sentiment from hurting but I think the punishment is exaggerated

how is my sentiment affected if a person decided not to fast or is not obliged to fast? From a religious point of view, there is no compulsion in religion& its not the job of any person to go after individuals to double check if they are doing their worship. From a persons point of view, we fast as an act of obeying God, if u r doing it for God, im sure seeing someone eating or drinking wont be an issue aslan.
