I think Duvall's great actually. But the thing is that he gets compared to Layne Staley. One of the greatest and most original rock vocalists of all time. And compared to that guy, everybody's bad.
I really like Duvall, kinda feel bad for the guy cos he can't win with most fans. He does his own thing vocally while trying to do the old songs justice, and he gets shit for it. Whereas if he tried to sound exactly like Layne, people would call him a rip-off.
I´m bass player, and I want to say that another thing wich is not respected in relation to the original version is the fact that Starr played it with finger (not pick), and Inez, at least in this video, is playing with pick. Maybe this could seens like a nonsense, but really makes feel the son in a way very different from the original. Thanks, great AIC 4ever !

I've tried to like Duvall, I really have, but every time I hear him sing original AiC songs I just hate it. To me, growing up with Layne fronting the band, it's like these songs were only meant for his voice and conviction. Layne could belt this shit out even when he was strung out. This will definitely be the last thing I listen to of the Duvall fronted AiC. It just doesn't feel right to me.

I think he's trying to hard on that song Layne always came with a scene of power and intensity while DuVall was trying to make his voice eerie and it doesnt work. Maybe in black sabbath not in this song. Overall i think he is a good singer

The other 25% unfortunately dosn't have that choice. It was not Layne's band. Jerry had just as much a part if not a bigger one thier music. I love Layne Staley, he is by far my favorite singer of all time, but he is gone and these guys want to go on. Maybe someday I will get to here him sing again on the other side.

Of course Duvall doesn't compare to Layne, but that's not a shortcoming because no one compares to Layne. Hell, Duvall is a great singer who's out there making sure future generations stay in touch with this great music. I commend him for having the balls to do so.

when a drummer or guitarist is replaced its hardly an issue. noone said shit abou the "new" guns n roses album except it was great even though its a completely different band now. Layne (r.i.p.) is sorely missed, however the music must live on, because aic speaks to people, something hardly any music does anymore. i'm glad they are back

i saw the "new " chains a week ago and i was highly dissappointed, even though i wasnt expecting much. duval is alright with the new material but needs to leave the original shit alone. i think cantrell just sold out because he knew whatever he tried without the chains name would probably crash like his last solo project

I think he's trying to hard on that song Layne always came with a scene of power and intensity while DuVall was trying to make his voice eerie and it doesnt work. Maybe in black sabbath not in this song. Overall i think he is a good singer

PEOPLE NEED TO BE HAPPY THEY ARE STILLA AROUND AND MAKEING MUSIC. The way i see it is 75% of AIC from the 90's wants them to be still known as aic. The other 25% unfortunately dosn't have that choice. It was not Layne's band. Jerry had just as much a part if not a bigger one thier music. I love Layne Staley, he is by far my favorite singer of all time, but he is gone and these guys want to go on. Maybe someday I will get to here him sing again on the other side.

But Jerry is Jerry, Sean is Sean, Mike is Mike. AIC is who it is now. Enjoy them for who they are! AIC was pure magic 15-20 years ago but we (and they) can't have the past back.

like "screamingPuppet" said before William had changed a lot, this vid its from 2006. first time i saw it, i was very awful, but nowadays duvall its doing an amaizing job with AIC,
he sings the old songs in the way that that ones have to be singed, ..he and the band never try to replace layne, he's a very good singer with a great voice who sings the old ones so good, and the new ones kickass , william has evolved a lot since 2006, and the band too, they're doing a fuckin kick ass tour right now
