    There are 15 movements in total if one includes the main theme (14 variations + theme). The theme is the piece from which all variations are subsequently constructed (the very first piece on this series).

    I suggest you check the English language Wikipedia article on Elgar's Enigma variations, specially the section 2.2 Structure. It has all the information you require.
