In your opinion, what would be the result of someone going to the gym on a regular basis but not doing the standard 3 x 10-12 heavy sets, but instead doing 4 x 15 - 20 moderate to light weight sets?
Would they not build muscle but not "big" muscles? Would they not become a lot bigger if they did the standard approach?!
Don't get so pedantic to the point where u lose focus.
@awhodatt no if u lift 15 to 20 reps u wnt build shit n u will not get toned..well u might build a very little muscle but it soesnt make ur muscle toned at all.. unless ur diet is in check.
its diet defines how u look more than training. getting toned is loss of bodyfat
In the bodybuilding world there is one general objective - and that is to build BIG muscles. That is what this entire IF channel is focused on.
However, we understand that not everyone has a goal of building BIG muscles - therefore, for those individuals we utilize the term "toned" or "toning".
Is that better?
(Perhaps you could forward a more useful and convenient way of making this distinction. I look forward to your reply.)
@awhodatt ya some ppl dont wana get big so they dnt do fukin weight then . doin high reps does not make u toned. do u think usher goes to gym n does high reps? i doubt it. as i said diet determines ur size/physique.
@awhodatt nope not enlightened what so ever. have been told by my trainer that toning doesnt exist . at least for weight training. also top comment doesnt lie
Yeah Diet is 80% but high rep exercises like deads and squats with 1 min rest time in between sets will raise ones heart rate to the point where they are burning quite a bit of fat near cardio levels.
@YogiBear13 i see your point, and respect it but from my personal experience i have been always doing low reps for muscle/mass gains, and one could argue i look half decent lol. but i will keep that thought in mind..
Dont listen to this moron you can get toned by doing any weight training especially low weight high reps, its just a matter of descreasing your bodyfat to get more toned/ripped.
@Rotatez Agreed, toning is refering to an aesthetic appearence. Some on here were trying to argue with a kinesiology major this wasn't scientific lol Which is really funny because I scientifically prove it again and again with my clients.
@EddyfuckinD are you really so pathetic you would take time out of your day to reply to a comment I made almost a month ago just to say nobody cares? lol, you really need to find something to take up your spare time.
Flat, Incline, decline: t.he best pump that I ever get in my chest is when I do decline...the difference is almost scary. I actually feel like chest is going to explode...wowww
is there a similar exercise to decline bench that works the same chest part and doesnot require you to lie head down because i heard when doing this exercise a lot of blood rushes to your head. which i dont think is a good thing.
At the end I think you got "size" and "strength" mixed up, with the lower rep ranges. Although it can be a bit hard getting everything you want to say out on the spot. Great videos.
I don't think so. With heavier weights, your recruiting the larger and stronger areas of muscle while with lighter weights, your recruiting more smaller assisting muscle fibers. Think of it as doing leg extensions after squats, it's just adding some extra tone to the rest of your quad muscles that the squats weren't hitting.
@canuckman87 That's true, but someone who focuses on low rep sets will have a very different looking body than someone with higher rep sets when compared over years of bodybuilding.
@canuckman87 Yea your right there but doing higher reps will help stretch out the cappilaries which over time will help give you more deffinition in the muscle also doing high reps is a cardio workout in itself.
@canuckman87 That isn't what he was saying at all. Doing more reps will burn more calories yes, but toning is in combination with cardio. Doing high reps with with lower weight as opposed to lower reps with high weight will build firm lean muscle mass without overly bulking, which is what some people mainly females desire. He knows his shit, but I doubt he has the time to give an exercise science lesson for you pea brains in every single demonstration video. FFS
Again, that isnt scientific thats just a myth. You can do high reps with lower weighr every damn time you hit the gym but if your diet sucks you're not going to have that nice toned look.
Dont call me a pea brain when you're acting like one...
@lazaruslol I know you're probably have no idea what you're talking about and only see things from your own retarded view point. Toning is basically lowering bodyfat while firming the muscles. It isn't something I do personally but as a trainer the majority of women I work with tend do not desire overly bulky muscle mass.
You're the best bro!

"Toning" is NOT "bullshit" people.
E.g. I am certain every person on here that works out on a regular basis will know of 1 or 2 guys in their gym that is quite ripped but not "big".
Meaning, he has muscles all over his body, you don't ever see him pushing heavy weight, but he is still "cut".
That is what is meant by "toning".
Toning = one will workout on a regular basis, build muscles, but never become "big"!
Get it??
awhodatt 4 months ago
@awhodatt u cant get "toned" by doing high reps so it is bullshit. loss of bodyfat does it

Ok buddy - it is clear that you refuse to open your mind to another perspective.
I make it a rule in life to not debate against stubbornness.
Regardless, you and I both know that thanks to our little exchange that you have been enlightened. Feel free to pretend otherwise though.
Nice chatting with you ... bye.

AdR1aN43 3 months ago
@AdR1aN43 1. In light of what I have mentioned thus far my perspective is not contrary to either your trainer's advice or the top comment.
There is a general distinction to be made in the world of bodybuilding / working out between "BIG" and ... otherwise.
Hence ... "toning".
Again, I invite you to forward a more useful or accurate term. There is none forthcoming thus far so ...
Btw, I am pretty certain that huge-ass, professional Joe Tong is not idly throwing words around.

Running on a treadmill all day long will result in a loss of bodyfat, however it will not build much muscle.
Therefore, I dont really get your point.
Do you even workout??
