@MrAyahya You are talking about Renuka Devi dot Devika Rani.Renuka Devi was originally Begum Khurshid Mirza who changed her name to act in films.She was from Aligarh and later migrated to Pakistan.

In 1970, she became the first recipient of the prestigious film prize, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
Achhut Kanya's story could be considered as a very modern story considering the time period it was made. I don't know much but know this for sure that it was the first movie of Ashok Kumar and the story is about a couple in love (the girl from a lower caste and the boy from an upper caste). Making a movie on such a sensitive issue (once again considering the time period) is truly admirable. Hats off to the entire film making team and "SAMJHAVE" for uploading this masterpiece.
