Curiousity nip, nothing more. Rats will try and nibble on something to see if it's edible. I've had 30 rats over the past 11 years, and only been bitten once, and that was cos I was giving this one particular rat medication through a needleless syringe (vibravet, aka doxycycline, an antibiotic) orally and it got scared. It hurt like hell, but it was a defensive, I'm scared bite. She never did it after that, once she realised that I wasn't hurting her.

lol that cat wasn't hurt bad at all, it was just surprised. The rat took a test nip to see if the cat was eddible. If the cat was seriously hurt it would have darted out of the owner's arms, screaming. The rat looks like it has crysty eyes tho, so maybe it was stressed=[

Yep, agreeing with other rat owners. The rat didn't bite hard, it was just a curious nip, mine do that to my hands all the time. It doesn't hurt at all. Just enjoy the cute of the video. :D

Rats do eat other small animals. Your not suppost to put it in the cage with another small animal because as you figured out, it will try to eat it.

I have rats - that bite was obviously a curiosity bite rather than a hard bite, the kitten just got a shock because she was nervous about the situation. Did they end up being friends?

I've introduced rats to each other and they always playfight/nibble a little at first, before quickly getting used to each other. Rats VERY rarely bite hard, and the rat in your video was not distressed.

My Ollie (hooded rat) nips at me, she will run her teeth along my skin, not seriously biting me and not hurting me but she does it to my lips and my nose :(

I'm not sure the rat really bit the cat :) Rats are almost blind, and they often test the different textures of their environment with their teeth.

Moreover, a rat-attack is quicker than what we see on the video. If it really was an attack, the rat would have interrupted or hissing respiration and bristling fur.

I think that poor kitty was more frightened than hurt ^^ (sorry for the mistakes :/ I'm French and not so good in English).

My best friend had a rat who bit me ^^ I still have a scar (although it happened in 2006). So that's why I'm saying that this rat on the video doesn't attack the kitten. It just tried to "taste" in order to discover what was this new element in its environment.
