i've been listening to sabbath since i was 14 years old dude... all these people who tell you you're doing it wrong are fuckin haters and probably can't even tune a guitar let alone play a sabbath song.
@thesaint252 The bass isn't sliding on that song, it's only the guitar and I'm not going to argue this any further, if you still want to disagree I suggest copy and pasting this in the search box to watch how the man who wrote the song plays it Black Sabbath (Ian Gillan) - Supernaut (Montreal 1983) and to clarify Tony is on the right side
@Mikejesmike You're an idiot. You've got 50 people telling you you've got it wrong, a dozen videos right next to yours showing the song being performed correctly and you can't hear the difference between your incorrect fingering and progression, and the actual song. If you honestly can't hear the difference, you should drop the Guitar and go learn the Kuzoo. And while I'm at it, its not Ian Gillian, its' Tony Iomi. Dumbass.
@thesaint252 I'm the idiot?? HAHAHA listen I don't give a FUCK IF 1 BILLION PEOPLE say there's no sliding on the guitar. There IS SLIDING, now if my fingers are on the wrong frets then oh well I can always relearn it closer, but the subject that was brought up was there is no sliding on the guitar and there IS. Are you sure it's Tony Iommi? All this time I was thinking it's Jimi Hendrix.
I think it's just the bass doing that slide in the background and Tony is just palm muting. it sounds right if you were playing a show by yourself to ad depth.
very nice please post more of obscure black sabbath songs.......do try the leads as you know because of Iommi's handicap the leads are not that hard......just lots of pulloffs and hammer ons..
the leads aren't that hard to learn but they do take tons of concentration because Iommi likes to shift around on the neck and he is surprisingly fast for having 2 fake fingertips.
Sounds great, I just played it on my SG for the first time but I'm going to adjust my tone settings. You've got the tone well sorted on that setup. What amp are you using? I'm using a Marshall JVM 205C.
Yes. In standard tuning start on A string, 2nd fret which is B. pick B and slide up 2 frets to C#. next pick C# and pull off to B and pick and fret G# on Top E string 4th fret. Then back to B then pick C# twice. then it's C# C# C# B G# B. Next it's B slide to C#. C# B G#. C# B E - F# (on D string 2nd to 4th fret. And then F# F# F# E C# twice. I hope you find this helpful.
I had a great tuner called Sabine, could tell you what tune you were in. Had the thing for 14-15 years until it fucked up, I like it more than the Ibanez tuner I have now, only reason I got it was because it the only tuners in the only guitar shop in the city. I'm going to have to read up on it some more to see how it works.
I've been playing too long-20 years,15 years serious. My tips are to play with others, they can help you break out of a rut and only play when you're in the mood to play. There are times I try playing when I'm not in the mood and I don't last but a few minutes. Playing the guitar should be something enjoyable, shouldn't be like work.
Nice playing! I've been trying to play this for days now. I mean, I have the intro and verse riff down, but I can't get the right sound. I have my guitar tuned down 1 1/2 steps, and I've adjusted my amp's settings many, many times, but I just can't get it to sound right... Hmm...
"A" for effort. There seems to be something missing though. If you study some of the various live video's out there of Iommi playing this you can hopefully see there is a smoother way of playing this.
thats awesome, i love the tone of that setup you got there, you got it spot on, if i didnt know, i'd swear it was toni iommi playing himself, your rilly good, sorry if i spelled his name wrong
Nice.. Jackson is it? or Ibanez. To heedingthecall, they're not Tony Iommi pickups because he has chrome plated humbuckers and by the looks of it this guy has single coils.
i don't think the tab is right? theres the weird slide bit, i havn't seen that anywhere and i don't recognise it? and i could swear its lower down the neck but meh
ok man its not bad but listen to the "live at last" again for instance to really hear. the riff is actually being played with one finger, doing just slides on the D and A strings and open strings as well. tony's style is sophisticated simplicity that's why it's so good (with vibrato on notes).
and for the second riff, the first E chord is actually the first 3 notes of E7#9 (typical blues/funk chord).
I hope Tony plays it better. Also we're both using the same gauge strings,8, and the same tuning. The difference is it's his song, plus it was recorded in a studio.
Well there are things such as tone that can make the difference. I could play 2 songs the same on 2 different amps and guitars and one song can sound better than the other.
@1969captainron To my ears it sounds like almost everything Iommi did was tuned down, but nice work on getting that "bassy" vibe

@Mikejesmike It's 2 slides to the 12 fret and there palm muted your right that guy is a stubborn douche. Your just playing them wrong.

@Jomentum468 Tony is sliding on that part

Good job bro, the only thing is the short run your sliding on the E string is really a bass guitar 3 note run.

@cousingrandpa No Tony is sliding on that part.

Everything Sabbath ever did after Paranoid(starting with Master of Reality) is always C#. Anything before, E Standard.
Spaghettaboutit 4 years ago
Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die were also standard tuning, if I'm not mistaken.
