  • I don't like his style but it's good

  • Horrible Camera, shitty audio, and stupid annotations. These are the type of videos that I often dislike. However, Jake's beautiful music somehow made it through all of that, and I couldn't help but smile and like this video.

  • Hahaha nom nom nom! How funny, oh and magic happening on the head of the uke! U two folks made friggn day wit doz comments! Needed a laff. Oh awesome uke-ist im inspired to buy me one for $20 now, luv it

  • Der is so klasse der Typ..... echt geil

  • :D its like some one is eating the camera OM NOM NOM NOM :D xD but amazing playing Jake is the best :D

  • really good :)

  • lol, the moan

  • Stunning. Really.

  • long ass intro ahha nice though

  • seems like hes having an orgasm after the climax... I would too if i could play that...amazing

  • i love how the light reflects off of the head of the uke. its like magic iz happenings

  • whats with the printing sound? sounds like one of those receipt calulators

  • 4:08 mec... t'es MON dieu!

J'adore ce passage mais d'une FOOOORCE

  • damn, so many uke players cover this song, but very few if any can come close to jakes playing

    it almost cant be duplicated

  • such a beautiful arrangement. it just fits

  • SHame abou tthe typewriter sound all the way through it. Not even a decent recording. I'd scrap it if I were you.

  • i think he used to play a low g tuning but its a normal gcea tuning now. someone was sayin back in his "pure heart" days he played the low g tuning.

  • it seem hes no longer want to play this song...

  • where are you getting that idea?

he seems pretty into the music imo.

  • he is the machine only can play this song.

  • seems like u dont know much about jake....watch all the different videos were hes playing this song....every performance is different...he admits to learning new things everyday. hes far from being a machine. jake is the outcome of constant practice as well as natural born talent.. being an ukulele player myself...i can tell you personally you cant get tired of playing a song...the melody is the canvas and your mind and creativity is the paint and brush...

  • Your camera is annoying.

  • Why didn't you get closer recording of his introduction D: I wanted to tab it out for my self

  • At 1:10, is somebody moaning?!

  • LOL...actually it was when he moved on his stool. It was very funny at the show cuz he said another time no he didn't fart it was the stool. His mic picked up a lot and my cam did everytime the lens adjusted

  • man i i wanna learn this song! whily my guitar gently weeps on ukulele is awesome!!!!

  • wow i havent seen an ukelele with a koa body for a long time

  • isnt that a mini classical guitar?

  • no... if you look closely, you can see 4 strings

  • lol sorry my bad...yeah i didnt realize until i saw his other vid..."Lets dance"..it has 4 strings. o.o

  • No, it's a bass ukulele.

  • @videogameplayingboon: i think its a baritone ukulele but i might be wrong...

  • It is a custom made tenor he got from Kamaka..

  • True, it's custom, but all you have to do is put a bass string on a tenor G-string and tune it like a guitar, 5 frets up. it's the same exact thing. It's not a bass 'ukulele, it's a Tenor with a bass G-string that's all. anyone can do it. A baritone 'ukulele would have the same tuning as a guitar, highest four strings.

  • I'm pretty sure it's just a normal tenor.

  • haha, Jake has a custom made tenor Kamaka. They etched his initials in it, and made it to his specifications. They only did this like 5 times over the last 100 years. 1 of the other custom made ukuleles was for some Hawaiian King and put in a display case. A waste if u as me. Jakes ukulele is one of a kind.

  • does anyone have details on his custom ukulele? I mean I want to learn like EVERYTHING lol.

  • Its a custom made kamaka ukulele, fire/burl koa body. Kamaka no longer takes orders for customs, they are some backlogged on their regular models. No worries, if you buy a kamaka, you are getting top of the line uke. I know, I got one!!

  • unless you had a martin i got 2

  • Yup, martin ranks up there too, especially there sopranos. I haven't heard the tenors though, can you suggest any videos highlighting Martin tenors?

  • Is the camera purring? Lol.

    x

  • perhaps the camera was through the eyes of a kitty?

  • lol no it's my cam lens adjusting everytime it's moved...hate that for sound

  • :o:o:o:o:o WOW

  • wow he must be sick of that song by now :/

    amazing player tho :)

  • anyone that says anything negative about this man is jealous and needs to suck it up and be a man. his heart is in his music, lots of practice, school, and just a natural gift to play that well.

  • ... hm let's see there's this one and let's dance and orange world and crazy G and Dragon

... let's count... that's... 5 and like +100 more songs that aren't on you tube

  • bwahahah except the fact that he has like 3 cds full of material

  • i am just saying what he is doing he plays this song nearly 2 times every recital.... wtf are you probz dude...

  • dude. he's getting the feel of the music. And i think he's frikin awesome. And wad do u mean by "stupid asian"? U wanna start something? >_>

  • yanigjunYJ IMO me and you go find emo51423 for the un original name and for making fun of the most awesome man ever... and start something! LAWLZ!

  • LOL! supid is the person who puts emo in their un. Go kill yourself and stop tainting my air.

  • private investigations (Mark K.)?

  • idiot dont you know how to work a camera LOL :P.

nice video this guy is awsome imma try and pick up guitar playing liek that. gonna take me a LONG while before I can get as good as him.

  • What kind of ukelele does he have? Maybe a gibson type of ukelele? for 1000 $

  • the one u dont have:D

  • It's a Kamaka. And yes they're probably worth $1000 considering the size and quality + the amp input.

  • actually, his is more like $5000

  • 5000$ custom made uke ;o]

  • maybe if you didnt snort so much crack your hands wouldnt be so shaky

  • LOL (for texaspete)

  • i dont care that this was taken with a digital camera phone or whatever, this guy is good and thats all that matters to make me happy considering i really enjoy this kind of music.

  • While My Guitar Gently the name

  • "While my Guitar gently WEEPS", by the 'Silent Beatle' George Harrison.

  • could someone respond to me with the name of this song, thanks.

  • Its "While my guitar gently weeps" by George Harrison, although there's a lot of improvisation going on.

  • he plays 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' by George Harrison at the 1:13 mark.

  • Me and jake met like 8 years ago, we been friends since. But after 2 years later, I didn't see him till the Holidays. I remember one time he always tought me, but I always skrewed up, we laugh. Good memories. Bad day he moved away ...

  • Who cares, dude?

  • obviously he does. You have something against people saying something meaningful?

  • someone has spent a lot of time with a uke. very nice.

  • Eric Clapton AKA "Cream?"

    lol.

  • Ahhh no the Beatles! do

  • "While my Ukulele Gentallly weeps." lol good song. Who does that Eric Clapton AKA "Cream"

  • he is a bit off on this performance though. You show check out the video where hes in central park at the Strawberry fields memorial

  • He's not off, he improvises every time he plays it because he plays it ALL THE TIME since he recorded it. I'd hate to play the same thing over and over, wouldn't you? There's no fun in that. Even Classical Guitar guys improvise, actually a lot. Jake's unique because every time you hear him play something, it's different, yet it sounds awesome. Even songs that are on 2/3 CDs sound different on each one.

  • Beautiful musician. Terrible cameraman.

  • have some respect for the cameraman, its because of him or her that we even get to hear this music

  • thank you, actually camerawoman lol. i tried my best on my digital cam enjoy!

  • dude it was taken on a damn digital camera so the noise picked up was from the cam lens adjusting. i didn't plan to even record him but he was so great. I aint a professional shit

  • well dont worry, you did a good job by even taking it to begin with.

Thanks for sharing this with us, this guy is good and the ukulele rocks, so screw anyone who complains about it.

  • It's a pity that the sound is a little bit fuzzy

  • He sounds like one of those little music boxes with the little strips of metal that get plucked by the little nubs on the record-like wheel. Run-on sentence... hehe.

  • What a virtuoso. Makes it sound almost like a hammered dulcimer.

  • yes we are intelligent, humble and talented sorry

  • I like hear the singing part too?

  • J.S. really has the stuff!!! Bet whoever recorded this video was sick about the noise that was picked up...but it's nicer to get to hear him even with the noise than not at all!

  • i know him sinse he was playing at a coffee shop in honolulu. 8years ago. at that time he was already playing amazingly, and he was a very humble and down to earth person. now he became famous.

he is still same humble and he never be stuck up. i really admire his personality as well as his ukulele!!

  • hes great live but his albums arnt that great...

  • JAKE ARE LIKE GOD IN EARTH FOR ME... ,)

  • =]]] awesome...this guys a genious!

  • It kinda sounds like you're in a hammock.

  • bloody senstational. out of words.

  • The faces he pulls are unreal. Still, when you're this good, who gives a shit?

  • he becomes the music thats why.

  • A poor excuse. I've seen those faces before from people who never get any connection to their music. It's just muso-ish.

  • have you ever looked at his other videos before?

  • phenomonal!!!! superb!!!!

  • Check him out at www.jakeshimabukuro.com, all this albums are awesome

  • just saw him last night in Melbourne Australia with Tommy Emmanual, the guy is incredible!

  • He is what Jimi Hendrix was to the electric guitar, Michael Hedges to the acoustic guitar, Jerry Douglas to the dobro...they've redefined their instruments!

  • I caught his show in boston last month - hes a great musician.

  • just goes to show you what 23+ years of daily practce and obsession will get you. I believe he is from another planet.

  • Yes it's amazing, i posted another video from the same show of his. i have a couple more but sometimes it takes so long to upload. glad u like!

  • He seriously needs to stop making albums with all of the musical accompaniment. It's a waste of his talent to have all of the other instruments playing around him. Hopefully his new album will be as good as this video.

  • yea he said his album would be accompanied w/ other instruments but i haven't hear any yet. i think i'd prefer this better anyday!

  • i agree completely

  • yea he's awesome. caught him in ft. wayne, indiana and he was great!

  • Jake is my hero!
