WHOA! It sounds like Dave is doing the "Beat it! Beat it!" parts in the chorus w/ Kurt?! Aneurysm, IMO, was always one of their better live songs, but I also always felt it was missing a little something without those backing vocals.
@stvntdiaz Right, I wasn't surprised that Dave was doing live backing vocals, I was surprised that he was doing them for this song. This is the only live performance of Aneurysm that I've heard where they throw in the "Beat it!" backing vocals on the chorus, possibly because it's an early live version, recorded well before the Nevermind tour. In their live sets from '91 and on, you'll notice Kurt sings the "Beat me outta me" parts, and they omit the "Beat it!" backing vox.
@TestMeatDollSteak i agree! love the "beat it, beat it" and you're right, this performance and one other (i can't find right now) are the only ones where i've heard dave do those backing vocals
For the record Dave's first show with Nirvana was on 10/11/90 at the North Shore Surf Club in Olympia Washington. (Its on the freakin With The Lights Out DVD!) This show was on 11/25/90 so yeah. Totally Dave. Besides it sounds nothing like Chad, Dan or Dale's drumming.
This wasn't Dave, he played Aneurysm in the studio practise in Seattle 1/1/1991 as a Smells like Teen Spirit B side. And this is on Outcesticide with Oh the Guilt After it.
god this is just intense! have you ever noticed the best renditions of nirvana songs live were usually the first few times they were played live? especially slts, rape me, pennyroyal tea, something in the way, son of a gun, blew, big cheese, dumb, very ape, sliver, hsb, scentless apprentice...basically every song! just listen to the first live performances of each. they're sung with such passion, not how they were in the end when they had played them 1000 times and went through the motions..
@mylomaster, yeah! that was the best way to start off in utero. "1, 2, 3, BAM! teenage angst has paid of well, now i'm bored and old." absolute perfect way to just follow up nevermind and all that went along with it.
p.s. i know the line is "i don't like it a single bit" but when i first heard it i thought it was "i don't like it, you sycophant!"
yes!! that would be amazing!! she would finally get what she deserves! And that would mean we could start buying their stuff again and support the two remaining members of what was one of the best bands ever
My favorite version of Aneurysm... only live!!! That noise part in the beginning riff is really genius... you can tell they loved Sonic Youth... it's like they took that noise element and turned it upside down into these pretty pop songs!!!
Yeah I know I've had it since I was like 12 or something. I meant this is my favorite version and that I've never heard it live and I like it better live since I'm a musician myself.
This was a Showcase concert. Alot of A&R dickheads were there. They played nearly every song they had written at the time. Including Scoff which is the only time they played it live. My favorite Nirvana concert. I have the soundboard recording of it ;)

Yeah. it may be kurt, but I'm not fully convinced that it is.. ther are how many people on this earth? at least one or two could end up sounding a little bit like kurt.. at least enough to make a live recording sound almost like its actually nirvana
i suppose dave sounds funny cos he is bashing the shit out of those drums. I dont reckon many drummers could play like that and sing as well at the same time.
anyone else notice him saying godamn after most lines in the second verse instead of just the usual scream?
