  • Great song, great band! I remember seeing them in a local bar in NJ before they got big. Thanks for the memories.

  • If you've recently gone through a break-up and this song doesn't make you cry, you weren't really in love.

  • very heavy!

  • Man, when these guys kicked, they kicked; and when they were depressed, they were REALLY depressed.

I played this song on the answering machine of an ex-girlfriend to try to get her back.

  • i empathise. did it work?

  • Did it work?

  • @Eyegore560 we're all wondering if it worked

  • Listen up,Junior!

  • -In Embarcadero Square,in early June 1988.

  • Yeah, still makes me cry too.Especially after Fred and me demolished that apartment building in North Beach the night the smithereens wrapped up their tour in E

  • Inspired by Nicholas Ray's "A lonely Place" with 5 lines sampled from the movie. Great song

  • This song was inspired by Nicholas Ray's film "A Lonely Place" with Humphrey Bogart and Gloria Graham. Some of the words are taken directly from the script "I was born the day I meet you, lived a while you loved me, died a little when we broke apart ... yesterday it would have matter, now today it doesn't mean a thing.

  • reminds me of a rainy nite @ 3am drinking coffee w/ thoughts running in my head.

  • great band & one of many great songs by them!

  • Still makes me cry.

  • Im in a lonely place WITHOUT YOOOOUUUUUU

  • this is shite

  • I'm not a big Smithereens fan but I love this song. I forgot how beautiful Suzanne is.

  • I love the Smithereens and Suzanne Vega!

  • adoro esta cancion...this is one of my favourite songs ever...genios!!!!

  • This is one my favorite bands ever! Love this song!

  • "I was born the day I met you"... The Smithereens will be remembered as one of the best American bands ever. Thanks for posting.

  • "I was born the day I met you,

Lived a little when you loved me,

Died a little when we broke apart."

    SO POETIC!!

  • This is almost the same as a line from the Humphrey Bogart movie "In a Lonely Place" :)

  • it is from that movie

  • God save the Smithereens! One of the bands that never got the recognition they deserved. They should have been as big if not bigger than REM!

  • love this. people should watch more.

  • such a great song the band is the same

  • Love it! And love The 'Reens! Hard to believe this was done over twenty years ago. Got the new "The Smithereens - Live at Court Tavern" CD and it is definitely a treat! It and The Smithereens ROCK!

  • great stuff, great memories. I lived a few blocks from the Court Tavern during my college days.

  • Talk about a pair of beatniks!!!

Love smithereens and love susie vega.

    This album/cd is great.

    This band deserves more.

  • Wow...I remember seeing this video on MTV (when they acually played videos).

  • これ、ずうっと探していたんですよ。。。

    すごく嬉しいです。

    ありがとうございます。

  • Thanks for adding this. This is a great song from a great cd. Also, I never knew it was Suzanne Vega who sng on this song...cool, I like her.

  • Okay, it's Suzanne Vega, she was very successful in her day. But this is a Smithereens tune, and it's simply unbelievable that this band never got more recognition. I know they are still alive and kicking, and I hope I will catch one of their shows when I am back in the states.

  • Suzanne is also very alive and kicking with a CD out '07 and from what I understand new stuff in the works. :)

  • They should have been bigger .. their first CD is one of the best ever. There material got weaker but that first record was so fine.

  • i think that's suzanne vega doint backup
