Yeah, still makes me cry too.Especially after Fred and me demolished that apartment building in North Beach the night the smithereens wrapped up their tour in E
This song was inspired by Nicholas Ray's film "A Lonely Place" with Humphrey Bogart and Gloria Graham. Some of the words are taken directly from the script "I was born the day I meet you, lived a while you loved me, died a little when we broke apart ... yesterday it would have matter, now today it doesn't mean a thing.
Love it! And love The 'Reens! Hard to believe this was done over twenty years ago. Got the new "The Smithereens - Live at Court Tavern" CD and it is definitely a treat! It and The Smithereens ROCK!
Okay, it's Suzanne Vega, she was very successful in her day. But this is a Smithereens tune, and it's simply unbelievable that this band never got more recognition. I know they are still alive and kicking, and I hope I will catch one of their shows when I am back in the states.
Just saw them in Annapolis, Md last month. They still have it. Great band!

Great song, great band! I remember seeing them in a local bar in NJ before they got big. Thanks for the memories.

If you've recently gone through a break-up and this song doesn't make you cry, you weren't really in love.

Man, when these guys kicked, they kicked; and when they were depressed, they were REALLY depressed.
I played this song on the answering machine of an ex-girlfriend to try to get her back.

God save the Smithereens! One of the bands that never got the recognition they deserved. They should have been as big if not bigger than REM!

Suzanne is also very alive and kicking with a CD out '07 and from what I understand new stuff in the works. :)

They should have been bigger .. their first CD is one of the best ever. There material got weaker but that first record was so fine.
