I've started a page for animals in Tripoli on FB... "Remember Tripoli's Zoo Animals"
I'm fighting for them and life is getting better for them They now have water, food, medicine and better care but, they still need donations as it takes $2000 a day to feed them all. I hope people won't forget about them again... just because they aren't on TV right now. Thanks for the poem.
I don't think I have travelled so much in 2:15, from Libya to the mid-West and back to the zoo, and met extraordinary people en route, Gadaffi, your aunt Edith, Nixon, Elvis-like redeemer (and Elvis for that matter) and, finally, Doom. I am always left a little speechless with the way you segue through place and time effortlessly and seemlessly. A tour de force, Roy.
@andrewnorris2 To parrot Paul Newman in that terrific film Butch Cassady and the Sundance Kid: I got vision when the rest of the world wears bifocals. Seriously though, you're too kind.
@longhairred Hey, I figure To each his own. There's a great deal off my own work that falls short in my estimation. But the pleasure in doing this thing comes when someone connects with the work-at-hand.
@WetlandsRemediation That makes sense: War is tough on the flora and fauna. Not to mention the shelling of civilians, all that destruction creating so much turmoil for the angels in the architecture--as Paul Simon says "spinning in infinity"... Thanks for giving this one a listen!
Really like the way you use a cascade of everyday and pop images. Like the straight forward way you write. Like this poem.

@vudu8ball Thanks, Allan. Much appreciate that... I give it the ol' college try, as they say. Have for about 40 years now.

The judgement of rebels gets us all in the end or anonimity freeze framing the past now and forever with echoes of zero. was glad to be taken there.

@rpVerlaine Thanks. I just calls-'em-as-I-sees-'em... And sometimes it works, I guess.
In short, I'm clueless as to what constitutes a poem. Still a mystery, after 40 years of writing.

The only thing more incredible than this poem itself is its title : )
Here's to the eclecticism of the mind's auditor - half whore and half Scientologist.

@fallowstars Thanks for that. And, yeah, I love the "dance" of that arrangement of words--the meaning and playfulness of that amazing line.

It's incomprehensible this received a dislike. Thoughtful and as always... beautifully read. A pleasure.

During the Fall of Berlin, the zoo was a moot point.
Das Volk had long eaten every specimen.
