@MrAwsomedude231 lol you call him stupid? do you know how long it takes to stop a boat, he was supposed to be going under the bridge, it was the bridge operator at fault, not the boat captain
he kept his job, cuz the seaway called him in to work knowing he was at a bbq that day and was working a double shift overtime. my uncle works on the same bridge and my father is a foreman there. he was drunk, but before authorities got thier his supervisor took him to a bar and when they said he will need a urine test his supervior said well hes drunk now he was so upset i had to take him out for a drink to calm down. so the seaway didnt want to admit they overworked the guy
"Uh, dude, does this thing stop fast?" 'Fuck, I don't know, why? "Cause it looks like that bridge is kinda low." 'HOLY SHIT!"...CRUUUNCH. 'Whoa, that was awesome dude." 'Awesome? Awesome?? Fuck! The captain's gonna kill me.' "Maybe we can kind of fix it up, huh?" 'Are you fuckin' crazy - fix it up??' "Hey dude, chill - just an idea." 'Well shit, at least the worst is over. I mean, it's not like we're on fire or anything.' "Uh, dude...
ya he was drunk and working double shift. even kept his job!!! my family works on the seaway, he was always drinking at work. now he just ties boats lol
he kept his job, cuz the seaway called him in to work knowing he was at a bbq that day and was working a double shift overtime. my uncle works on the same bridge and my father is a foreman there. he was drunk, but before authorities got thier his supervisor took him to a bar and when they said he will need a urine test his supervior said well hes drunk now he was so upset i had to take him out for a drink to calm down. so the seaway didnt want to admit they overworked the guy
@Polybun , nope, crazy enough he kept his job cuz the seaway didnt wanna admit they made him work a double shift on call knowing that he was coming from a bbq and drinking, he no longer does the bridge, he ties boats now. my family works on the seaway as well
If you watch teh video you will see the bridge is lowering while the ship is going under it. A malfunction of the bridge equipment caused this. Can never see what is coming in the future so we that workk offshore must do everything we can to avoid accidents. This one though was unavoidable.
not a malfunction, the bridge was operated by a man working ontop of the bridge and lowers/raises it maually. he was called in to work a double shift , and he told them he was at a bbq and had few drinks, was tired and hes an alcholic. he lowered it on the boat, even called the main office saying he cant get the bridge down, kept his job cuz of the union, seaway didnt wanna admit they knew he was coming in drunk so they covered it up. he ties boats now. my family works there so i know its true.
@rensign that ship accident happened near my place in hamilton ontario canada the bridge operator brought the bridge down too soon and was high on drugs. there was 2 people on the bridge of the ship and no one was hurt bad
hmmmm Holland... Who knows? "Hey captain,...I fell so relaxing..."-"...I have to stop smockin marijuana...its make me fell...i belive i can touch the bridge... "-"Stop smocking so much"-" We hit anything?"-"No..relax..."-"I think we are moving..."-"Me too..."-"Dont warry..be happy" xD hahahahaha...
@22greve Thanks a millions! Good to get the whole story behind it. And I would say he is a Captain among captains! "Hiscock, concerned the boat would drift out of control if he left the wheel, dropped to the floor as the vessel's pilothouse and the bridge span collided with the shriek of ripping steel."
Link to news report please? The people on the command bridge can't have survived that? And why is the bridge being lowered down? All these questions and no answers. Help me internets!
Windoc was sailing northbound in the Welland Canal. Around 9:30pm she approached the Alanburg bridge and proceeded under the span which had been lifted in advance of her arrival. As she was moving northwards under the road bridge though, the span apparently began coming down before the ships wheelhouse (pilot house) had passed by the bridge structure. The helmsman (steering the freighter) stayed until the last seconds as the wheelhouse was about to crash into the lift bridge.
This was the Windoc which was owned by Patterson note the large P on the stack.. anyway.. it was August 11, 2001 and the windoc was making its way down the welland canal. and the Bridge Operator was drunk and had taken pain killers. However an Amber light on the bridge showed the Captain of the Windoc , Captain Kent Strong that it was ok to pass under.. However, it was not so. When they asked the bridge operator why the bridge went down prematurely, he simply replied "I thought it had passed
I can't believe how many people are saying this is fake. I crossed that bridge about an 2 hours before it happened. I had to take the Welland Tunnel to get to work for about 2 to 3 weeks after this.
@CliffordVII Lets just say it had kind of a big dent in it. Slightly buckled along the side beams. Pavement heaved up a bit. That's all I could see when I checked it out the next day. Closest I could get was a little under a hundred yards.
I think this accident happened on the Welland Canal, Canada, not many years ago. It was due to a novice bridge operator, who saw the bows of the laker come through his bridge and then started to lower it. One can see that it is descending as the ship passes through. Unfortunately the bridge driver did not realise that the navigation bridge, superstructure and funnel of the laker were at the after end, so they struck the bridge and fire started. This is memory of a google report.
THIS is no fake this is in Canada in the welland cannal the fridge operator was not paying attention to the ship apparently the captin hit the deck to just miss getting hit
