  • @jorgeibs The re is no second part, Im afraid, lost interest

  • perfect,thank you

  • you're back!!!!!, Nu kan jag ta fram min bas igen!

  • Why is it incomplete?

  • why do you have that crazy headset mic and we still cant hear your voice?? lol

  • the part of this song thats amazing is the 127 128 tempo playing it slower does not sound good, and i realize that its a good lesson so im not discrediting that. But without the tempo its not the same song.

Q:who is your fav. danish CounterStrike team, titans? That headset mic screams oldschool pro gamer but i could be wrong.

  • Your vocals are a little quiet, for future referance. Great Job!

  • hey whats your completes gear,, i want that tone!

  • Hello, Which strings are you using? Sounds very cool. I have a Lakland 44-94, which sounds also very funky, but I have the impession your sound is fatter.

    Thanks for your answer

  • Thank you soo much this won me a competition!!!

  • @mattxx16 cool! What competition?

  • thanks exelentt

  • watching this just makes me sick! I play almost all classical upright bass and thought I was pretty good, but your playing makes me look like a kindergartner. Are you also playing with more fingers than the thumb? I'm coming to Denmark in September, maybe I need some lessons!

  • That bass sounds so amazing, is there multipression on it or something?

  • that preamp kicks ass!

  • lol @ 1:38..that's a long one haha so funny! thanks for this tutorial on this excellent song!! ur very good, keep it up :) and ur accent is too unique but funny at the same time:3 jajajajaja

  • how you get a such a pure awesome slapping sound? how you record this....mmmmmmm... sounds greaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!!!!

  • this bass is active?your song is increible ...saludos fron Spain...

  • Great lesson, thank you. i miss the rest.

  • Not to be critical, I know it's hard to figure out the exact notes when someone can play quarter steps on a fretless (like Jaco), but you aren't playing the right notes. I only listened to the first run and it's doesn't end in a B, it's a Bb, OK, I just saw your second run and that should end with a Bb-B. I didn't get this from tabs or sheet music, I figured it out by ear.

  • @fenderbassfan. I meant the last two notes of the 2nd run are C#-D2

  • @fenderbassfan no, it ends on B

  • WOW man i love the tone you have got coming out of that! wat gear are you using/settings? sounds awesome. loving all the lessons too by the way! Keep on thumpin!

  • MarlowDK is da bass man !!!!

  • buen maestro!!!

  • Your Videos are amazing! And very helpful

  • dude woooooow, your tone/amp/eq is amazing man, what gear/software are you using dude?

  • man kan tydeligt høre du er dansker ;)

  • Thanks. Learned this on my fretless note for note (Jaco's version) years ago. Just picking up my fretless again and this lesson is a great refresher for fingering. It's missing a note here or there from Jaco's version - and yes, it's a slap version - but still, great job breaking it apart and slowing it down.

I taught bass years ago and taking something apart like this and teaching it to an audience is a true talent. Thanks for your time.

  • slapping it sounds like shit!

  • This is excellent!

  • You should do a lesson on the second part of Teen Town live by Pastorius (on the essentials album). That bass line when the jam unleashes is disgusting.

  • man slowing down teen town makes it sound unrecognizable. So much of jaco's stuff is like that. What a maniac.

  • The slapping kills it!

  • Yeah Teen Town without dynamics is no fun!

  • you're 100% danish, right? only had to hear you say teen town! ;)

  • Guilty as charged:-)

  • @MarloweDK dude, we are almost neighbours... i live in sweden :D

  • @tviester tsjeen tsaum

  • tabarnack qu a sonne sa basse!

  • Nice!! :)

  • smile dude u play great)

    overconcentration))))

  • Great!

Excellent lesson and fantastic tone on that bass!!

  • To stewmc5222 - Thx man:-) Wanna be a guestteacher at Playbassnowcom? Maybe some fretless lessons or general articles, message me if you are interested

  • I love the Popping and Slaping! Great stuff!!!!

  • Nevermind this, I didn't get around to putting the volume loud enough in time for the beginning comment!

  • Jaco doesn't slap it. Marcus Miller plays a slap version of it.

  • this is marcus miller version of Teen Town...read the description...

  • jaco never slapped on this tune@thesovietalliance-Marcus's style is slap/pop so he just added his flavor to this tune.

  • When jaco plays this he uses his fingers. When marcus miller does this he uses slap

  • the lesson is on marcus miller's version. jaco never slapped, but marcus did in his cover. if you finger it its the same as jaco's.

  • Great instruction!

  • You are grate musician!!! You made grate video! Thank you very much.

  • Marlowe, just want to give you a big thanks for your unselfish teaching and awesome bass playing. There now way you can get this kind of teaching for free. Thanks again from California!!!! YOU rock!!!

  • Thank you!!!

    Awesome!

  • Could anyone tell me were to get the backing track

  • What backing track?

  • is there one for this song somewhere without the bassline?

  • ?? Yes, there is the original tune!

  • @jacazz1 check the chords on my site

  • man thank you so much for posting this video. it helped me so much and am like almost got it ! iv been wanting to learn this song for ages ! LOove & peace !

  • nossa muito bom mesmo me ajudou muito muito obrigado brazil 6 rsrsr

  • Merci ! -)

  • youve got an amazing sound out of that bass, is it a marcus miller signature im thinking of buying one on monday? is it japaneese?

  • Yes, its the japanese version.

BUT remember i use amp, cab simulator and compressor too, and its makes a lot of the sound

  • cool im going to get this bass and a nice gallien krueger rig can i ask one more question......is there a pre amp in this bass? im confused because ive seen pictures of the back of the american model and theres a flap to put the battery in but in some forums they say the japnaneese model has one too but i cant see the same compartment cheers bro

  • wow...!! i like this lesson !! BUT!! the best for me is that SOUND!! wow...!!

  • if I finger this line, will I have the Jaco version?

    just wondering if they're different.

  • This is the Marcus Miller version. I think Jaco just plucks the strings while this is popping and using thumbs. The note are right I'm pretty sure though.

  • You are great for doing these videos.

  • me tabs to send pls ..

  • i litlle "Goddag" from Denmark :D

wauw over 82.000 views. you are youtube famous!

  • good sound

  • buenisimo viejo!

  • Very, very helpful. Thanks!

  • Man... I told you once, & I tell you again: I love you! jajajaja. Thak you very very very much for make me live a little more happy with your videos, don,t stop! You can see my video just writing sergiocabedo, is "run for cover" M. Miller. It sounds dirty but... take care!

  • hey marlowe im a multistrumental player, bass drum and piano. you are great. you reminds me the great Sir Stanley Clarke. ive got a picture with him after a concert with the other genius Dr. George Duke.

  • Marlowe, what type of bass amp are you using on this particular song it has some great pop!

  • is that a Hartke?

  • jesus how many basses does this guy have

  • atleast 10+

  • Hi,one question,can i put lights in my bass?i have an olp mm22,thakns

  • ey guys...im a bassist and i love the groove of jaco style on playing bass so much..just wonderin what MODE(s) does he usually use? I mean, yeah its jazz and notes comes out freely thru feelings but just in case you've already covered some of jaco's piece, cud u share it? what mode(s)? especially when he does his solo..

  • It aint like that! Jaco played like a bebop horn player plays over changes, with an advanced know-how of harmony, using a variety of "modes" to create lines. You can't distill it down to a mode unfortunately, but there are tons of jazz improvising resources out there. Better yet, transcribing some jazz solos yourself will accelerate the process, Dexter Gordon is a good player to start with. Good luck!

  • Hear, hear:)

  • he doesn't slap it... and there are easier ways to play some of the lines... without changing positions i mean.

    but this is still great.

  • Thanks so much Marlowe.. youtube would be nothing, without you!

  • this really helped map it all out for me, thanks a bunch!

  • great vid! thanks! love your vids by the way!

  • oh the marcus miller version.

  • Thanks, Marlowe!

  • Thanks, thats massively helpful.

  • fuckinhell this rly helped me to get this song down better

  • I prefer Jaco's version. but thanks. Its still the same notes. I got the notes on paper somewhere but I dont read to well. I like the danish accent :P

  • Finally....the song all bassplayers wanted to have taught them! Thanks Dude! One note I disagree with, but who cares! Im practicin' this till I have it down....plucked or straight. This song was written about a teen club Jaco went to to jam as a yute.

Thanks very much...Im subscribing to all your stuff...Thanks so much for teaching me the "Bass Anthem" of the Century! A must for all basplayers. Great Sound Too !

  • hi there i think this is a brilliant and well taught lesson ive learned a lot from it i just wondered if you could do the same with jaco's havona if possible?

  • I second that!!! I've been trying to learn Havona forever now... Marlowe have you tried it yet? It's a great bass masterpiece! You'll love it :)

  • Very good lesson, bravo!

  • nice collection

  • I like Jaco's version better, no thumping and slapping and it's more complicated. I've heard so much popping and slapping that I'm totally sick of it.

  • He needs a few more basses in the frame I think

  • what about the last 3 notes ????????

    why didnt you add them

  • what strings and gear do you use?

  • wow, i just saw marcus milelr playing this it looks REAL hard

  • Love the video!! Thanks for sharing Bro! Come to Singapore you'll make a good living teaching bass!!

  • I wonder who taught Jaco this line? Amazing how he left us all to figure it all out somehow...

  • Taught? He composed the damn thing:-D

  • LMMFSAO!!!!!!!!!!....

  • Dude Jaco created this line and everything else he did nobody ''TAUGHT'' him shit!!!!!...lmao!!!!!...

  • No shit Sherlock, I was being sarcastic....

  • I dont get it. was it supposed to be funny or something?

  • grazie fratello!

  • thanks for sharing !

    great music great lesson too

  • Very informative, I've always wanted to learn this but all the tabs created on the internet are always wrong. Its awsome cause you slow the song down and take it section by section. A much needed video, thanks man.

  • yeah, It's pretty cool but I prefer the finger sound (not slap).

    Keep it up though !

  • Good Sound!

    Is this '77JB?

  • Thanks friend, his teachings helped me very much in executing the correct music.

I am of São Paulo - BRAZIL, I do not write very well in ingles,

  • Those dr black beauties? Im probably blind :)

  • that a marcus miller bass?

  • Hy!!!

what strings do you use to get the brilliant tone?

  • how you get your bass sound like that?

  • First of all, it's a Fender Marcus Miller signature bass, so it'll sound already great even through mixing deck :)

  • Are you stupid they come in different colors. What a dumb ass.

  • not 100% sure on this buy my bass sound similar to this with the following settings, ampeg ba 115t combo amp, treble 9 mid 3 bass 8, setings on my bass are treble is 9/10 mid 5/10 bass 8/10 hope this helps
