isnt it sad how western culture has to copy eastern culture because western culture is non spiritual and full of dogmatic religion and bullshit. Even if we practiced native american spirituality it would still be a replication. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
you are lucky to have those, i have been looking around and the copys dont share that SouNd, what a pity, i would love to have one but there are only 5000 in the world and you have three, couldnt do us favor and give one of the slightly more grimey ones to me......
It's a beautiful instrument...I've played it live, recorded with and and play it on youtube...That said the "mystical new agey" bullshit surrounding it is oh sooooooooooooooooooooooo pathetic and sad...and don't get me started on the builder/s attitude and elitist nonsense!!!
@chauntzu okay i won't get you started :) it's all the same to me, just don't go stirring things up, i'm excitedly waiting for the day when all of that argument will be behind us...
I did that years ago with mallets and brushes...it works very well! I used the Hang along with my drum-kit, Beware, the mallets will eventually put it out of tune...Which I enjoyed...However a hardcore Hang sycophant would likely cringe at! LOL!!!
Hey Omrhythm your comments have left me with questions. After many years working with voice and various stringed instruments... I have just begun with the Doumbek (never having played any percussion) 'cause I like the idea of the fast finger work and how that might be applied to the Halo (Hang)... but .are you suggesting that Tabla would probably give me a wider range of transferable skills?
Thanks for replying... Wow I'd love to hear how you are playing these days ..after 2 years of improvement... scary! but very exciting. I'm on the list to recieve a Halo.. sometime next year.
I've just begun to learn Doumbek.. hopefully it will help my playing when the time comes.
I am excited about reaching another plateau and will post soon. Doumbek is helpful. Any percussion that isolates all fingers is helpful. Tabla is best for sure, because it uses split-hand technique, but the energy goes down into the drum. This creates greater proprioceptive response and builds the tiny finger muscles more efficiently and subtly than drums where the technique is based around attack and release (lifting off the hand)....like doumbek. Good luck!
I notice you have 3 hang drums... therefore you must know how to get one, or in this case, three. So Would you be able to let me know how and where you got them? I read up on an article saying something about it's just two men in Switzerland who make them and the only way you can contact them is by sending them a letter. Is this true? Or were you able to get them some other way? Thanks for your help!
check out a company called Pantheon Steel. They're a steel drum company located in the US. Missouri in fact. They have been working on their own hang drum line called the HALO. Last I heard they are almost done but wanted to make sure the final product is perfect. Plus I was told they should be more affordable then the Swiss made ones. I'm hoping it gets done sometime this summer.
Why don't they make these like... you know a company should produce them...

The big question remains unanswered... HOW DID YOU GET 3 HANGHANG ???
yattn7 2 years ago
I went to Bern before the world discovered the Hang. Gosh this video is outdated, skill-wise. Its about time to upload more...

Ohm is sanskrit. It is a mantra used in meditation and also the symbol of one of the chakras. It has many different meanings.

Don't know why this cat (silentdreamzz) caught 6 negatives for this comment. He's just re-iterating what the Hangmakers wishes are....
