  • hey man what subwoofer are you using? and how did you plug it in because i want to invest i some of these speakers but also use a subwoofer at the same time but the subwoofer i m getting connects via red/white cable an the speakers connect jut just one cable.. isit due to the subwoofer or do i need a certian cable?

  • what is the difference between cakewalk and edirol? they're both MA-15D

    please tell me.

  • @DJTranceTime They are the same. Roland Corporation is the parent company Check wikipedia on the topic: Roland_Corporation

  • Which speakers are more powerful (volume wise) these, (Edirol MA15D) or the m-audio studiophile av40?

  • Hi, these speakers sounds better than M-Audio AV40 and Altec Lansing VS4121?

    thanks.

  • arent these ment to be monitor speakers???? why have they got treble and bass knobs, that just defies the whole point..

  • Just bought these saturday.they look great and sound great for their range and price.does he job and they are very clear.

  • are those active monitors

  • @rollituplightitup85 Yes i do believe they are. The right speaker has the amplifier in i think

  • @Alexpickering kool, what kindo of connection do they have in terms of connecting to audio interface. and do you know if they have balanced outputs

  • @rollituplightitup85 Hi, I use an optical connection from my macbook to connect to these. But there is also coxial, and the red and white, and the line in connection (single port)

A very low volumes it tends to be more powered to the right, but at volumes you would want to listen to music at, they seemed equal.

    Hope this helps

  • @Alexpickering Hey could you attach your tv to these via a coaxial cable yea? Would you recommend these speakers for watching movies, playing games and tv etc Good bass??

  • @CiaranVanDon yes

  • I should have gotten them from new.. they are so much cooler in black! :/

  • I heard that these monitors are somewhat 'muddy' or lack definition. Is that true?

  • @Atern0x Nah their very clear. I reckon their very good for their price.

  • Hey what model is that Yamaha sub? Is it any good?

  • Good music ;) What you say about their sound quality? They look very "cheapish" but tho if they sound good i would buy them.

  • @tekoheko

They sound awsome. Its roland so it cant be "cheapish". These is another version that is in wood color(i got it) and it looks so much better.

  • Just got my MA-15D monitors set up today. Does anyone know if I'll notice a big difference in sound using the S/PDIF output of a USB audio interface (like the the Line 6 UX2) compared to the speaker output of my sound card (built in to the motherboard)? If a USB audio interface is plugged in to a PC, does that mean that all the audio for the PC is sent to the UX2 and the sound card is bypassed? Sorry, I know nothing about this area at all.

  • I don't know much about that, because i guess you are talking about a PC.

But i think if you had a 2nd usb sound card, you could go into system preferences or control panel and change it under sound to the sound device you are using.

Since day 1 i have been listening to my Edirol MA-15D monitor via Optical out on my Mac & new Macbook.

I haven't listened to it via the standard line input.

I would say that using the optical gets rid of unwanted hissing sound, that comes via line in cable.

  • Thanks Alex. I think you're right - I downloaded a manual for a USB audio interface that said "When using this device as your sound card device for recording and playback in audio applications, you may not need to have any other sound card enabled. In some cases you may even encounter a hardware conflict with some onboard and/or add-in sound cards. The best solution is to simply disable any unnecessary, additional sound card within Windows Device Manager."

  • Ahh... Good Good.

Let me know how you get on. I will be uploading a new video of these monitors soon. Hopefully the audio quality will be better than these videos.

  • I've just bought the Edirol MA15D monitors - can anyone suggest a sound card that has optical or coax output. I only want stereo, not bothered about 5.1 or 7.1 capabilities, but midi would be nice. Thanks.

  • Line 6 UX2 But Does Not Have Any Midi Inserts

  • Thanks 05lramsay, I had a look at these just now - should be ideal. MIDI not essential anyway.

  • what is the bass like in these with out sub?

  • Without the sub, the bass is still very clear and loud.

I tend to use mine without the sub now, and put the bass enhancer on 1.

  • Could you tell me how crossover would be controlled when using the subwoofer output?

  • what do you mean by crossover?

Do you mean the bass volume from the sub? :S

  • How low the music has to go before the sub starts to make some sound...

  • I am not sure sorry, I find with these now, i dont use a sub, as they bass enhancer makes them sound much clearer .

  • Ah right, much apriciated

  • Great video! I can just about hear how nice these sound through this video, even thoguh that is impossible.

Thanks for using a drum and bass song in this, it really showed the potential of these speakers., but I usually blare out my bass louder than how you like it :) So I think I'll be fine with the overpowered sub.

I will be getting these speakers on saturday. I will try and the black ones, they look great, but if they don't have them the wood finished ones will be fine, I'm not fussed.

  • Let me know how you get on,

The microphone isn't the best listening back to it, but from iTunes music, it sounds amazing!!

    Cheers.

  • I will try to post up a video of my speakers when I get them, I mightn't be able to though since my videocamera is old.

  • Could I ask, I will only have one optical out when I get the soundcard.

Do I hook the subwoofer to the speakers? or vice versa, or do I have to get something extra to connect them both?

  • Never mind, I found out you can. But what sort of connection do I need from the sub to monitors?

I'm guessing the connection comes with the subwoofer, it'd be silly if it didn't!

Don't mind me, I answered my own questions!

  • its ok

the optical goes into the monitors, then another cable from monitors into sub.

the cable is the same sort that goes to the left speaker.

The cable should come with the sub, when you buy it

  • Ok good, the store I buy from sell Hosa branded cables, would you know if Hosa are any good?

  • I don't know sorry

But they can only be better than the ones that come with the monitors :)

  • Lots of stores in my city sell them, they're a pretty respected brand around here I guess, not too cheap too. So I guess they should be pretty good.

  • Ok I have hooked up everything, I'm using line in at the moment on line 2 to computer with 3.5mm jack. I have put it in the blue 3.5mm in. I don't hear any sound at all. I put the volume up for line 2.

At the moment I don't know what to do :( you seem to be the only person who can help me at the moment. Any ideas?

  • Never mind, I fixed it, I am running line in with onboard sound and no subwoofer at the moment.

It sounds so great, I love it, When I get my sub and new soundcard this system will really shine.

I cannot believe how nice "Kismet by D-Bridge" sounds now compared to when my Logitech Z-2300 System was playing it sounded.

  • gdgd, I am glad you are liking it.

Are you using the bass enhacer at the moment??

and how have you set you bass and terbel levels?

  • Bass and Treble levels at 50%, bass enchancer on 1.

I cannot tell you how brilliant these sound compared to my old system. I have heard countless notes that I would've never heard with the other speakers. Once I get the new soundcard and Subwoofer. Also stop using line in and use Optical. My ears will litterally be in heaven. :P

  • gdgd,

They are the settings i us, when i have my sub off

You'll find that you will need to switch the bass enhancer of when you have the sub wired in.

Good Luck, And Have Fun :)

  • I forgot to tell you but I settled for a pair of Yamaha HS-80M's after a while, there just wasn't enough bass, and subwoofers cost a good penny. Around 600-700 over here.

I was able to get my pair for 720 Aus, what a deal! These speakers stretch out to 42hz to 20khz, very good, I just needed the extra bass and they're much louder.

I have to admit these MA-15D speakers were awesome for the price though, I love the front volume knobs on them.

  • @UltimoImperio

true when i heard them in a store there wasn't enough bass to start with, you can't get it from speakers this size, anyway. but hay i got a subwoofer to go along with it, it's a used tannoy, when it came out it was about 700 EUR, i got it in like new shape for 140 EUR. it goes perfectley with ma-15d

  • Yeah best to get a sub with it, but I couldn't find any decent subs for a good price.

  • @UltimoImperio Hi, did you recomend me these or the Alesis 520 USB studio monitors?

    thanks.

  • @slaving300

I will probably say Alesis M1 520's, but then the USB part draws me off.

    Flip a coin.
