  • I bought one a few months ago, garage kept its whole life with the bagger setup and dude even had the official dealers service manual. I've never driven a tractor that was smoother or quieter than this honda.

  • This video went viral on Namibia

  • Do you have a starter for one of these?

  • It's a baby Civic! Did you find a new deck?

  • Found one of these today in NW Arkansas for $300. Totally functional and totally cool!! Complete with grass catcher.

  • i got on of these about a month ago for only 100 bucks!

  • how much did you sell this for?

  • This tractor looks in tip top shape like you said its unfortunate that Honda does not make anymore tractors but they must've been good quality because i have a honda snow blower and its lasted for 4 years no problems.

  • I just bought one of these for $200 tonight but I reckon it has a broken conrod or something major. Score tho none the less!

  • it sounds like my honda atc

  • I just got one for free and it's like new the only bad thing is one of the decks spindle bearing is shot these are the coolest little tractors

  • The starter on my HT3813 lawn tractor is shot, I'm having trouble getting the darn thing off, any help on how to get it off would be greatly appreciated

  • damn that things got more options than my dads hyundai lmao

  • Be nice on a gokart! oh yea V-tec just kicked in yo!

  • Is it deisel?

  • Comment removed

  • i want to buy it.

  • to put a 13hp on the 3810, the only thing I would need is the 3813 hood and engine mounting brackets, correct? I thought the frame is still the same size.

  • V-TECH

  • very unique machine

kinda a pain with more parts = more things that go bad like water pumps and more seals to go

  • they say hondas r the best

  • would this be a good tractor to make into a racing one

  • Have a question about these hopefully you can answer. when I was little, my dad had 1 just like this that he loaned out while he didn't have a house and the guy destroyed it. I would love to know what exact model it was. It looks exactly like this one and the 4213 except it was hyrdostatic. my dad also said he bought it new in 98 or 99. any ideas or model #'s?

  • is it fuel injected or carbureted? please respond

  • @pivotboy63

    It has a carburetor.

It is an industrial engine developed from the D-series engine used to power the Honda Civic. It was first used to power generators. Honda also made several models of tractors and a portable air compressor using this engine.

  • i think honda forgot they were building a lawn mower, and not a car.

  • i have 2 of them looking to sell mine purrs like a kitten starts as fast as you can turn key. would you be intererested

  • Comment removed

  • I bet that would make a killer go-kart engine.

  • They used to use those in RV generators up until about five years ago.

  • That engine would go nicely in a big go kart or a buggy

  • Comment removed

  • fuck it is nice. Give it to me now

  • How much did they cost back then. I wonder why Honda still produces ride on mowers for the UK market, but not the US.

  • Nice, let me know if u find anorther like this.

  • I read that if you only push the brake in 1/2 way, it alows the tractor to roll while you change gears, but when you push down all the way, it stops it like a regular tractor. Is this true? I knew I should of bought a 4213 when I had the chance

  • do you still have the honda 4213

  • i have that same one! anyone want to buy it?

  • sounds like my 1983 bigred three wheeler

  • thats a sweet tractor to bad for the deck

  • i have this lawn mower but it didnt come with a deck!! i take it they dont make shit for this any more...lol

  • how much do you want for it im seriously intrested.

  • Awesome, never seen one before thanks for the video. That is one awesome engine setup on that machine.

  • wow i want one

  • what does your wife have to say about all thoes mowers in back

  • @aaronzack14 WOW! I was thinkin' the same exact thing..................Lately I've seen alot of videos on YouTube with what I can only discribe as semi-collectors of all these old mowers and junk. But hey, one mans trash is another mans treasure. Go figure...................

  • Awsome vid man. We had one of these tractors when I was a kid. Dad bought it brand new. Talk about state of the art. We worked it into the ground & it just kept going & going. I can remember driving it up to the handy-stop to get a pop when dad was at work. Its good to see these old tractors are still out & about.

    Have a good one.

  • SO Lynol, how much do you want for it??

  • @MBernier81 Sold it in October.

  • @LynolsOffice -___-

  • to bad the deck is shit

  • Have you ever had the idea, to put a lawn tractor engine in a vehicle, for shitzngiggles or even a metro 3 cylinder engine in a lawn tractor for power and efficiency?

  • Lol, I've thought about putting a Geo engine on a lawn tractor, my aunt had a Metro, the engine was so small!!! I don't even think I would have to stretch the tractor frame, to fit it, lol!

  • Belt chain or push rods??

  • The cam is belt driven.

  • Geddon!

  • id love to have that beuatiful mower

  • heres a worthless tip...if you got a new mower....spray the underside with wd40 before use and every mont after...and grass wont stick..protecting your deck from rust. :)

  • my buddy has one it seems to rev fast

  • the original mariokart lol

  • ya i took the muff. off super loud

  • ya know i always wondered are those motors fuel injection or carbed?

  • They're carbureted.

  • yea thats what i figured

  • i will give u a ipod touch for these or 75 dollars

  • Sold it for $225, sorry.

  • to motox lol i just wtched his video

  • man only $225?? if i only lived near you ida gave you more

  • wooooooooooooooow id give him like $300 or something.... you dont screw with a honda.....

  • my grampa has a john deere garden tractor powered by a yanmar inline 3 diesel. liqued cooled with engine mounts. lol almost like this one. but this one has an engine from an actual car engine brand. cooooool!

  • theas things are bomb proff

I had one and no matter how much crap you throw at it, it WOULD NOT DIE.

oh this bring back memories :-D

  • Very nice tractor man!! how much cc?

  • Put some tail lights on it, take off the governor, and it could be street legal.

  • They still use this engine in their RV generators.

  • i have a 4514 or somthin its for sale on ebay for a thousand i belive

  • Where are you located? I also have one of these tractors and would like to have another for parts.

  • Do they sell plows for these tractors? Thanks

  • They did sell plows back when these were new. They even sold snow thrower attachments. Finding one now might be difficult though.

  • damn nice find i could never find one of these to save my ass

  • thats a bad-ass mower.

  • I just got a tractor exactly like this one and i can't figure out how to get the starter off. Can you help me?

  • I've never had the starter go on either of mine, but I've heard that you need to take the engine off to get the starter out!

  • could you run it without coolant ? or would it over heat

  • Just like a car engine, it would overheat and cause head damage. I've heard of this happening to these before.

  • I have one dated 1991, recently bought a bigger tractor, but did not wanted give it away

  • me wants one

  • It's a great little engine ! How much fuel does it use per hour of operation/mpg ? 5*

  • That is an awsome tractor. Are you going to keep it in your collection or sell it?

  • I got a Honda 4213 last summer, so I might keep that and sell this one.

  • dude that is sweetness how much

  • This 3813 is for sale for $250 OBO.

  • O well hold on to it im 14 getting a job i have a 1200 cub cadet (superloud)

  • ya ill buy it but couple of months tho

  • i have a cub cadet 1250 (same thing really as a 1200 but with a hydro unit) and its one of the quietest mowers in our area. I'm thinking yours probably needs a new muffer. Or the engine was changed. The engine should be a kohler k301aqs. (I think the q in the model of the engine was to represent that the engine was designed to be quieter. Also the1200 is a quiet line series from cub cadet, it was desgined to be quiet, which is why it has side panels, and engine mounts.)

  • sweet tractor, very quiet and very fast.

  • hey is it carberated? i have a freind who just got one! says it runs amazing!

  • Yeah, it's carbureted but it runs smooth. I just wish it had separate choke and throttle cables so you could gradually take off the choke when it's real cold while keeping the throttle at a set speed. I suppose I can put one in easily enough though.

  • cool! my freind wants to put the engine in an old case garden tractor with a dead engine!

  • Very nice

  • i have one for sale if anyone is interested. shoot me a msg.

  • Nice, you said it is a 13hp Is it very powerful I was just looking at one of these on kijiji same thing with 38" snowblower for $1250.00 do you think it is worth it? -Jaycob

  • You got yourself a piece of gold right there

  • Do you still have it? If so can you please do a cold start on it.: }

  • I sure do still have it, in fact I even have another one of these now. Hopefully I'll get around to doing some more starting vids soon.

  • i'm putting a two cylinder inline diesel in my simplicity 7117

  • What kind of koolent dose it use?

  • Same type you'd put in a car. 50/50 mix of ethylene glycol and water.

  • That is awesome, I did not know that they put direct drives in any Lawn tractors after the 70s. I mean most are belt or hydros today. If anyone knows of a brand that makes modern tractors with direct drives in them please tell me

  • Cub Cadet

  • yea but the MTD cub cadets are bad and are built like shit. John Deere makes beter direct drive tractors now. Imagine if IH was still around and made cub cadets

  • Yeah, that's true. Higher end JD are great tractors and are direct drive

  • to change the starter u need to pull the engine

  • how many tractors do you have??? I love my honda lawnmowers and cars ;)

  • i got one what a pice of shit takes a min to take off

  • Sounds like your clutch is worn out. These have clutches like a car, so they do wear out over time, and that is the exact symptom of it.

  • hi

the reason it is so quiet is because its ohc and water cooled.

    gota love it

  • The 6-speed is driven by gears, the hydro is driven by a pump and fluid, so spinning the input pulley faster won't make the tractor much faster, and probably destroy the trans.

  • If it's a 6-speed and not a hydro, and If you changed the pulleys, you could probably get over 50MPH!

  • Hondas outdoor equipment has always been a marvel of engineering and new design. That is an awesome lawn tractor!!! i am on the look for one now!

  • it really is a shame they dont make tractors like they used to

  • I've seen your 4213 as well. Is it the same as this except for the deck size?

  • Yeah, the deck size is the only difference from the 3813 to the 4213.

  • is that carberated or fuel injected?

  • It's carbureted.

  • Lol, although it may be very, very, very close to a car engine... i dont see any tractor manufacturers using fuel injectors in the future. =P

  • There are a few companies using EFI engines already. Exmark is one of them using new Kohlers with EFI. There are a few other mower companies using them too. I think Kohler plans on having almost the whole twin cylinder line fuel injected in a few years.

  • Ahh, well i was wrong. But at least i learned somehting! How does adding an EFI affect the overall cost? Is it offset somewhat by better fuel efficency?

  • Don't forget to check the timing belt!! You do not want to end up replacing the head!! Very expensive.

  • Oh yeah I've heard stories about that belt! I guess I'll check that when I bring it out this season and tune it up.

  • oh and is that a weed eater rack on the back of the honda

  • LOL, I think it's part of an old bagger, but yeah you could use it for that! I've used it to hold shovels.

  • no safety is good. safety first. to go away.

  • Dang that thing is quiet, but I like them loud

  • I like them loud too, but my neighbors do not, LOL!

  • Haha, yeah I got pissed off at my neighbors, and went out and started up everything up at 2am, and the cops pulled in the next morning, and we got a fine

  • yea i love them loud to and your neigbor dont like it tell them to stick it! lol

  • anyone got a starter motor for one of these for sale

  • go to like craigslist or ebay im sure u can find one cheap somewhere

  • i wish i had one

  • how much for this

  • ive got a 4213, but sadly the ingition coil is bad :( it cost too much to get another one so its currently sitting :(

I wouldnt have a clue where to get a good used one either :O

  • That's too bad. Parts for that are probably scarce due to it's age, but I do see stuff up on eBay every so often.

  • i would like to get one of thoes or a bolens , allis chalmers b-212 ,cub cadet ,ect

  • Those are all quality makes!

  • i just bought 1 of these for 50 bucks

  • Wow. Can't beat that! What shape is it in?

  • wow that has to be the coolest tractor ever!! i want one now!!!

  • cool

  • i happen to own a hd4514 and yes these tractors are liquid cooled and have a fuel injection.. thats y they were 3k at start to buy from the beggining. i did have a radiator problem with mine last year.. after about 5 minutes of running the radiator would start spewing out coolant and would start steaming miserably. its fixed now and runs great tho

  • Did you have to get a new radiator?

  • did any more fall off the back of the same truck so that i can have one to.

  • Woah! Liquid cooled?! Is it fuel injected as well?

  • does it have a timing belt too?

    Over head cam,

    cool

  • theres a reason they dont make these anymore lol

  • no there is not they just dont make them cause dont want to deal with them i have one trust me there is not a reason other than this

  • Very nice. Honda's inline-twin OHC engine is one of their finest ever made. Don't forget to replace the timing belt as needed!!

We've got a back-up generator (at the shop where I work) with one of these engines on it. It puts out 6.5K watts and is the only generator I've ever seen that can run all day and not provoke anybody...

  • Yeah it sure is queit, it's the only one we can use at night without waking up the nieghbors -and at full throttle too! I don't know when the T-belt needs changing as there is no hour meter on this, makes it kind of hard.

  • thats a keeper!

  • Keep in mind this is from 1986, back then the biggest twin from Kohler or B&S for lawn tractors was 18hp. And Honda did make an 18hp version of this in the later 80's. The power of lawn tractor engines have sure come a LONG way since then. Used to be to get 18hp you HAD to buy a twin, now a days you can get up to 20 or 21hp single cylinders!

  • buy a deere man all you can do is mow with that

  • You kidding? This thing weighs a ton, I wish I had the snow thrower or plow they made for it. this things got a lot of power for just 13hp!

  • Awesome, I gotta try that.

  • ill give u 300 bucks for that one

  • Whats on the rear hitch?

  • The bracket for a grass bagger it had.

  • thats bad ass

  • Mine when you put it into gear and release the clutch it takes like 4 seconds before it drives? Whats up with it? Thanks!

  • Yeah ours does that too. The manual says it should take 2 seconds, so I guess the clutch is wearing out, I don't know if it can be adjusted or if the clutch has to be replaced.

  • damn luck a** holes i with i had that and mod the shit out of it

  • whereabouts could i find an engine, just the engine only

plz tell me, this would go great in a go kart, aswell with the tranny geard slightly different

  • It's not often you see the tractor for sale, and even less often you see just it's motor for sale, I've never found one.

  • im just interested in the "liquid cooled" factor and its quiet. i mean, it would be perfect for a go kart with the correct gearing..

oh well, back to the Geo motor then lol

  • Hey actually I just saw one for sale on eBay. Do a search for "Honda HT-3813 Tractor 13hp Engine"

  • that thing is nice, how much you pay for it

  • It was $300. It was the lowest priced one we'd ever seen around here, so we bought it.

  • Believe it or not, i just saw 2 of them for sale nearby for $175 BOTH! Bad thing was both had trashed starter motors. And yes the misus said a firm "NO MORE" - ugh.

I want my backyard filled with the suckers......who cares about code enforcement....

  • Bet that cost a pretty penny new.

  • honda makes great engines.
