But in Win7, they received a few nice updates, including allowing for open formats in Wordpad, and giving Paint some nice new features, like various brushes, etc.
Just Installed Windows 7 RC1 on my main PC. Works like a dream tbh, it's more stable than Vista, and was very happy to see all my programs working and drivers functioning properly =].
So are they taking out the annoying ballon pop ups or not. Those balloons are always annoying and makes me feel stupid, i know i just plug in a mouse or keyboard.
I agree, I'll be dual booting my Vista system with the 7 Beta but I'll be switching over to 7 with its full release. It would have been nice to see Creative's mp3/video series on the device images. O I also forgot to mention, the 18 seconds on the XP VM was configured with half the memory 256mb compaired to Windows 7, 512mb, clearly without a doubt XP runs faster, the numbers speak for themselves.
Fo Pete's sake annoying troll...you're comparing both operating systems in Vmware! Not only that, you compare an OS with its third pack with a beta OS that also has the debugging code still in in...get real for Pete's sake...sigh
drphysx, Do you work for Microsoft? well I don't, It sounds like you are a little bias on your testing, if you want numbers here they are, these tests were conducted on two computers one is a Pentium 4 dual core 3.06GHz with 1 gig of ram, the other is an AMD quad core with 8 gigs of ram. All are in a VM, here are the numbers. Pentium 4, boot to login time 53 secs. in Windows 7, 37 secs. in XP, on the AMD Computer, 32 secs. in Windows 7, 18 secs. in XP. There you have it!
I'm not biased I was running Vista since its beta and I know about the performance problems.
I would never have installed Vista on those five year old machines but I tried Windows 7 just for fun and I was surprised that it was actually faster than XP.
Also check out the compariston on zdnet. They've done various tests like boot-up, network and hdd file transfer and so on and it turned out Windows 7 was the FASTEST in any of the tests.
As a matter of fact I do have Windows 7 Beta, I have it in a VM format, it dose run a little faster than Vista but not much, I understand running in a VM is not as fast as installing it on an actual drive and I also know its a Beta version, which I have taken into consideration. There are some new options and features in Windows 7 that I do like, but I can say with all honesty Windows 7 as it stands right now is slower than XP.
build 7000 uses 300MB to 600 - 650MB of RAM and even if it uses alot of RAM it still has a lot of speed on my 768MB RAM computer and my new pc will have 4GB so no problem
Windows is starting to look like a Mac OS, all 'shiny and easy to use'. It'll probably end up being realy good for running basic apps but I think that it' ll be bad at running texst commands meaning you can only do so much with it.
It' ll probably work well in a dual opperating sysem with linux.
Im all for the advancement of computers and OS's, I have no problem with that at all. I deal with Vista and XP every single day and I can say from experience that XP literally blows Vista away with it comes to speed, and Windows 7 will follow the same pattern as Vista because Microsoft only knows how to build bloatware when it comes to software design. The slowness of Vista reminds me of the days of the AT-286 computers, I remember those days and I do not want to go back to that kind of pain.
More features means more code the CPU has to process, which in-turn means slower computer speed in a given amount of time, you cant get something for nothing. You want BLING, then you will pay for it by slower speeds, more errors, more driver issues and hardware compatibly problems. You have to purchase faster hardware to maintain the speed you currently have, are we moving forward or backwards?
No you're wrong, If I want to code something to be optimized it would require me to code so much more, If it took less code to optimize something then everything would be optimized to their full capacity. Programmers don't spend hours upon hours of work trying to make an application less optimized, that's ridiculous. You can have more features with less CPU processing power if you optimize other features.
Well remain with your fuckin' pentium 4 and XP. No one said you have to upgrade with time. Damn, the only thing stupid here is your comment. It's obvious they'll make new features. What? You want another windows 95? New features + more CPU applications = upgrade. Everything works that way not only Windows. If you're a Mac fan, the same applies there. So, what's you're problem?
Looks like Vista, the worst OS Microsoft ever created, aside from Windows ME, they just keep adding more useless junk that will produce more errors to fix and consume more memory, more hard drive space, more resources. They need to stay with XP and improve on it. XP is much faster than Vista, and a lot easier to fix when it breaks. I think the next decade will be for Ubuntu.
coder58 - Very good point. I would say you are correct. The guy who put this video up doesn't know anything if he says Vista, or Windows 7, is faster than XP.
The guy who put up this video has been running Windows 7 for more than two months on six different PCs ranging from very old and slow to high-end, and Windows 7 is faster than Vista and at least as fast as XP on ALL those machines.
And, to mention an independent source, just look at the tests on zdnet where Windows 7 is the fastest of the three in EVERY aspect.
I know what your saying, I'm always hearing people say how stupid touch stuff is because a mouse and keyboard is faster, but they just don't realize that they are trying to expand the usability of PC's.
I'm am normally a Windows hater, but if this works as shown, I'm impressed. Watch your mum or someone not that used to computers try use Windows XP or Vista, totally non logical. So trying better integrate printers, mobiles and digital cameras, put what you most likely want to do more easy to find, and try reduce the different ways to do the same thing, all will help. I hope. There is hope for Microsoft and then the users this time.
i like how it has live update with the colors but i hope that the button she pressed on the bottom was apply because it would be annoying if you accidentally changed the color and cant press cancel
Microsoft was working on Multitouch already in 2001, whereas Apple did not make their own Multitouch concept, they just bought a company called Fingerworks that made the concept.
It's really funny that some people think Apple created the "touch screen" - that really shows the power of marketing... I have a Sony digital camera with a touch screen and it came out 3 years before the iphone.
apple made the perfect MULTItouch screen and launched it on a PHONE! it sells like hell.
meanwhile, microsoft creates a crappy touchscreen that doesnt even work right - as seen on many youtube videos - and like always, creates a completely vulnerable and errorfull windows
He's focusing on his "Bill and Melinda Gates" foundation fighting against aids with his money.
Lots of Americans do that: First get rich and then enjoy your life and donate some money...
Bill Gates is not focused on trying to make money anymore (in fact he doesn't need to... he's got enough) and he's only working for Microsoft as a "visionary" who tells the company how he imagines future technology.
Too many glitches, the people got side tracked and interrupted each other, geez! This is not the way something should be presented. Microsoft still sucks!
I and many others didn't like the look and feel of the Vista Aero colour scheme, and i don't know about you but this looks exactly the same with a bit more circles added to the task bar!
Can't help noticing this channel belongs to a recently created account that only promotes Windows 7. The channel owners posts sound like marketing blurbs. And the same commenters praising Windows 7 keep popping up for each of these clips.
Looks like, walks like, and smells like Microsoft astroturfing.
Never got the idea that PERHAPS there are people interested in Windows 7, yes there are even SOME people that actually LIKE Windows 7. That's amazing, isn't it?
There's a simple rule that you probably forgot: THINK before posting!
So why do you hate Microsoft so much? Has it done your life wrong? Has it affected your way of life? or is it because your a closed minded person that doesn't try out what's outside of your isolated circle? Even you yourself has to admit that you used Microsoft before. Don't talk about Spyware or viruses because if Linux or Apple was the leading market holder of business, and consumers you would get the same thing. There is no OS that is perfect, and neither hack proof.
Apple has a lower market share not because it's any weaker, but because to have the Mac OS X OS, the consumer needs to buy a computer made by Apple Inc., and they're not cheap, therefore, not many people can buy them, especially business consumers concerned about cost. IF and ONLY IF Apple Inc. were to do the same stratedy, Leopard will be as buggy as Windows, because it has to support so many hardware combinations, but Leopard will be VERY COMPETITIVE!
I love OSX I will say that. It's stability, and performance, but only thing that annoys me is the restrictions, and compatiblity. That is why I can't stick to it, same with Linux. Ya if Steve Jobs wasn't stubborn we would all be using it. But their new Snow Leopard is nothing new out of the box as they said it was only tweaking it for performance nothing innovative. While Windows 7 is moving to the future. And the question remains who will be the successor to Steve Jobs when he leaves?
PC has always been toned for business people. If it wasn't it wouldn't be the leading operating system on the market. If Apple decided to do the business way instead of the "cool" way for kids then majority of people would be using OSX. Also you have the option to use touch screen if you want. I'm using Windows 7 pre beta 6801 x64 right now with no touch screen. I use it as my main operating system, which is wayyyy better, and faster then Vista SP1.
you're right that PCs are designed for business people, but the reason that windows is currently the leading OS is because it struck a deal with IBM when it was suffering with OS/2 and MS-DOS. Microsoft would reap a license fee for every computer shipped with an IBM PC. Steve Jobs almost got that deal with IBM (with his NeXTSTEP OS), had he not been so hard to deal with.
Yeah is cool...but what's up when it comes to updates..security...I mean...I wanna see that...cus I have vista and it a headache when it comes to updates
Well... it looks like they're doing everything right so far. Which is nice. I really hope that they'd change the stupid Start menu, which they havn't changed since Windows XP. I don't think anybody actually finds the current Start menu very useful. I also hope that they'd add more features to the Sidebar, making it more useful for Widescreens.
Not bad.... not bad at all. But honestly if I'm really going to be taking the full features of what windows 7 has to offer me I would really have to purchase a whole new computer again. Frankly, my wallet can't afford that anymore. My current PC comp is running just fine on XP so far the only new changes i see is the new GUI and Touch. Nothing else is special.
I hope you're right. Cause if you were to look back at Microsoft Beta of any OS that it has launched in the past. There wasn't that much of a big change. Except the Big leap from MS windows 98 to XP. But then you have to start dealing with the BSOD. Then you would have to wait for MS to release their service packs were they promise that "It will fix the problem" and it doesn't.
Personally 1 see a good feature for the OS would be to have the ability to Defragment your PC without you knowing. That way, your files, application and boot sequence will load up a lot faster. And another feature would be file recovery system and NOT the whole OS recovery and a better firewall. There are more but these are just top of my mind right now.
Ah ok then. In that case since it does all of that, then why the heck is it so slow and why am I having problems running my old applications that I use on Vista. And even if changed the compatibility to make that software run under XP in Vista, it won't work. I've been a Microsoft fan and I love it. But what I don't like is when they don't test out their OS before sending it out. And when they do, automatically you'll expect a service pack upgrade right away. What gives?
I mean these guys have to shape up their responsibilities. When they release an OS, they shouldn't release a like 4 to 5 different sets of OS's example 1 is Vista business, 1 vista ultimate, then you got entertainment. I mean why go all through all that trouble. Just release 1 good OS that has everything that suites any individuals needs.
This would mean just Vista Ultimate for some 500 bucks. Does this make sense?
Nope, it doesn't because most people don't want to spend 500 bucks for their OS so they have the choice to get cheaper versions like Home Premium or Business.
And those who want everything just get Ultimate, so there's no problem at all, people are just too stupid or lazy to decide.
Its a rhetorical question but why on earth does Windows with all features cost $500 at all? Why does the OS have to cost so much as they dominate the market anyhow. I'm not an Apple fanboy but for $129 you get every feature out of the box. And people say Apple is expensive....
No wonder people pirate Windows like crazy. While Microsoft don't have to drop their prices if they don't want to, it'd be better given their dominance that they did drop it - more legal copies, less WGA etc. development (saving cash for them) plus they would find people upgrade more often netting them even more cash by volume. It'd probably also help reduce the cost of a PC furthering their marketshare.
You can't compare the prize of OS X to Windows. Apple does not make money with the OS. You only get OS X if you buy overprized Apple hardware, that's why they can sell OS X for 129$, because they are a hardware company.
Well, firstly we sometimes have to give up old things and move on to something new. Which in this case means some very old apps won't work anymore.
Also, just look at Apple: Leopard also had lots of compatibility problems and they already released the same amount of bugfixes as MS for Vista, so it's not true that OS X is more stable, more secure or anything. This is just what they want to make us believe, but it's not true.
Also, I've been using Vista since beta 1 without any problems.
It runs damn fast on my 1.2GHz Tablet. Feels like three times faster than Vista and even faster than what I think XP could be on that machine.
And that despite that it is still alpha code, so we can expect to see even more improvements. That's just amazing.
Even Vista drivers run better on Windows 7 M3 than on Vista itself which sounds quite unbelievable but that's my experience after having used it for three days.
They got brained wash that's why. It's whatever. This is pretty awesome, and its still in alpha testing. I'm sure they'll have a great product by the end! Apple fan boys can stay in there iWorld, while the world can keep advancing.
I like the wallpaper slide-show and the ability to set the time between switches.

Windows Vista required a minimum of 512MB ram to run. but it required 2GB to get it running smoothly, and with a lot of apps
Windows 7 requires 1GB RAM to both run, and run smooth with a lot of applications

I hope. There is hope for Microsoft and then the users this time.

no she did it correctly it glitched they have to fix that:)
mikegrung 3 years ago
Right, I just tried it on my Tablet PC and it's difficult to dock it to the top.
It's easy to dock it to the sides, however, and in order to go fullscreen, a simple double-tap or tap on the maximize button does the same.
I wonder why she even tried to dock it to the top like that.

The touch screen version had a lot of copy-offs from the iPhone.
AfterShockPivot 3 years ago
And you think Apple invented that?
Wrong.
Microsoft was working on Multitouch already in 2001, whereas Apple did not make their own Multitouch concept, they just bought a company called Fingerworks that made the concept.
drphysx 3 years ago
Oh...
AfterShockPivot 3 years ago
It's really funny that some people think Apple created the "touch screen" - that really shows the power of marketing... I have a Sony digital camera with a touch screen and it came out 3 years before the iphone.
jwd0808 3 years ago
I have been using phones with touchscreens (called Pocket PCs and of course 'inevnted' by Microsoft) since 2001 ;-)
drphysx 3 years ago
And maybe Microsoft acquired Danger Inc. to make a Zune Phone?
ztigerpaw250 3 years ago
maybe, we'll see...^^
drphysx 3 years ago
whats the point?
apple made the perfect MULTItouch screen and launched it on a PHONE! it sells like hell.
meanwhile, microsoft creates a crappy touchscreen that doesnt even work right - as seen on many youtube videos - and like always, creates a completely vulnerable and errorfull windows
ateicher 3 years ago
Mac OS X is more vulnerable than Windows, as confirmed by many different, serious sources.
Mac OS X Leopard also had as many or even more bugs and errors as Vista. Just look at the lists of bugfixes in the updates.
Multitouch in Windows 7 works great and flawlessly. The videos you are referring to are wrong, they don't even demonstrate Windows 7.

Bill Gates is not focused on trying to make money anymore (in fact he doesn't need to... he's got enough) and he's only working for Microsoft as a "visionary" who tells the company how he imagines future technology.

drphysx 3 years ago
So why do you hate Microsoft so much? Has it done your life wrong? Has it affected your way of life? or is it because your a closed minded person that doesn't try out what's outside of your isolated circle? Even you yourself has to admit that you used Microsoft before. Don't talk about Spyware or viruses because if Linux or Apple was the leading market holder of business, and consumers you would get the same thing. There is no OS that is perfect, and neither hack proof.
ibuckyi 3 years ago
Apple has a lower market share not because it's any weaker, but because to have the Mac OS X OS, the consumer needs to buy a computer made by Apple Inc., and they're not cheap, therefore, not many people can buy them, especially business consumers concerned about cost. IF and ONLY IF Apple Inc. were to do the same stratedy, Leopard will be as buggy as Windows, because it has to support so many hardware combinations, but Leopard will be VERY COMPETITIVE!
juniorgan1986 3 years ago
I love OSX I will say that. It's stability, and performance, but only thing that annoys me is the restrictions, and compatiblity. That is why I can't stick to it, same with Linux. Ya if Steve Jobs wasn't stubborn we would all be using it. But their new Snow Leopard is nothing new out of the box as they said it was only tweaking it for performance nothing innovative. While Windows 7 is moving to the future. And the question remains who will be the successor to Steve Jobs when he leaves?
ibuckyi 3 years ago
this pc seems like for business people, i rather use the mouse though. I hate finger prints on my screen. lol
SirGomez81 3 years ago 4
PC has always been toned for business people. If it wasn't it wouldn't be the leading operating system on the market. If Apple decided to do the business way instead of the "cool" way for kids then majority of people would be using OSX. Also you have the option to use touch screen if you want. I'm using Windows 7 pre beta 6801 x64 right now with no touch screen. I use it as my main operating system, which is wayyyy better, and faster then Vista SP1.
ibuckyi 3 years ago
you're right that PCs are designed for business people, but the reason that windows is currently the leading OS is because it struck a deal with IBM when it was suffering with OS/2 and MS-DOS. Microsoft would reap a license fee for every computer shipped with an IBM PC. Steve Jobs almost got that deal with IBM (with his NeXTSTEP OS), had he not been so hard to deal with.

Well... it looks like they're doing everything right so far.

DarkWolf80s 3 years ago
thats because its only the prebeta.... once the full version is out it'll probably even MORE amazing.
kennboy1 3 years ago
I hope you're right. Cause if you were to look back at Microsoft Beta of any OS that it has launched in the past. There wasn't that much of a big change. Except the Big leap from MS windows 98 to XP. But then you have to start dealing with the BSOD. Then you would have to wait for MS to release their service packs were they promise that "It will fix the problem" and it doesn't.
DarkWolf80s 3 years ago
Personally 1 see a good feature for the OS would be to have the ability to Defragment your PC without you knowing. That way, your files, application and boot sequence will load up a lot faster. And another feature would be file recovery system and NOT the whole OS recovery and a better firewall. There are more but these are just top of my mind right now.
DarkWolf80s 3 years ago
Vista does all that already!
drphysx 3 years ago
What gives?
DarkWolf80s 3 years ago
I mean these guys have to shape up their responsibilities. When they release an OS, they shouldn't release a like 4 to 5 different sets of OS's example 1 is Vista business, 1 vista ultimate, then you got entertainment. I mean why go all through all that trouble. Just release 1 good OS that has everything that suites any individuals needs.
DarkWolf80s 3 years ago
This would mean just Vista Ultimate for some 500 bucks. Does this make sense?
Nope, it doesn't because most people don't want to spend 500 bucks for their OS so they have the choice to get cheaper versions like Home Premium or Business.
And those who want everything just get Ultimate, so there's no problem at all, people are just too stupid or lazy to decide.
drphysx 3 years ago
Its a rhetorical question but why on earth does Windows with all features cost $500 at all? Why does the OS have to cost so much as they dominate the market anyhow. I'm not an Apple fanboy but for $129 you get every feature out of the box. And people say Apple is expensive....
chilled99 3 years ago
Well you forgot that OSX runs only on (overprized) Apple hardware. Thus Apple does not need to make money with their OS.
If you could buy OSX for any hardware, it would cost just as much as Windows.
drphysx 3 years ago
good point
thehoomizon21 3 years ago
The OEM version of Vista Ultimate was $199...
jwd0808 3 years ago
The retail version of OSX is $129.
Then again, value is in the eye of the beholder.
chilled99 3 years ago
You can't compare the prize of OS X to Windows. Apple does not make money with the OS. You only get OS X if you buy overprized Apple hardware, that's why they can sell OS X for 129$, because they are a hardware company.
drphysx 3 years ago
So actually OS X is always OEM software because it (normally) doesn't work without Apple hardware.
The OEM Vista Home Premium which is the version that should be compared to Leopard is also 129$.
drphysx 3 years ago
Well, firstly we sometimes have to give up old things and move on to something new. Which in this case means some very old apps won't work anymore.
Also, just look at Apple: Leopard also had lots of compatibility problems and they already released the same amount of bugfixes as MS for Vista, so it's not true that OS X is more stable, more secure or anything. This is just what they want to make us believe, but it's not true.
Also, I've been using Vista since beta 1 without any problems.
drphysx 3 years ago
I know it will be a success because Pre Beta was a huge success

I'd be REALLY impressed if it could actually run on that spec... I think that 500MHz would run slow even on XP.
eatcarpet 3 years ago
It runs damn fast on my 1.2GHz Tablet. Feels like three times faster than Vista and even faster than what I think XP could be on that machine.
And that despite that it is still alpha code, so we can expect to see even more improvements. That's just amazing.
Even Vista drivers run better on Windows 7 M3 than on Vista itself which sounds quite unbelievable but that's my experience after having used it for three days.
drphysx 3 years ago
They got brained wash that's why. It's whatever. This is pretty awesome, and its still in alpha testing. I'm sure they'll have a great product by the end! Apple fan boys can stay in there iWorld, while the world can keep advancing.
