  • does it make a difference if its a used pot and theres old parts of solder on it?

  • I have a dimarzio 500k push-pull pot. I dont think it has that thin shield of tin...do i sand my pot or no....

  • @ac23AQ no ... pretty much every back-groundable pot of any brand has it ... although it doesnt hurt it if you do ... its just easier if you leave it

  • @caulinrocker1 O ok thanks cause i recently just soldered my pickups, but every time i try to melt solder on there, it just collects on the soldering iron, like a blob. The pot stays solderless, like its solder phobic...should i use more flux next time? Thanks...

  • @ac23AQ more flux could help but dont use a lot ... just a little boost or else the conductivity of the solder will be compromised ... if it still doesnt work some companies apply oils and coatings to prevent corrosion before sale so if thats the case try to wipe it down well with naptha (an alcohol product used for proving and removing oils) ... if that still doesnt help then you may need to do some light sanding for it may be a non oil based coating ... sanding should be your last resort

  • Thanks a lot Hillbilly, that was great!

  • So all ground connections are soldered to the back of the volume pot, and (in the case of some of the wires fom the bridge pickup) the bridge?

  • Great instructional vid! It's helped a lot!!

  • Also you need to be careful on how long you heat it the pot. Too long and cook the pot to where it won't work. Too Short and it grounding isn't going to be good especially with the braided shield wiring.

I know I have done that few times.
