  • This brought back a lot of memories. Was there in the summer of '82

  • WoW I did Basic here from 09/88 to 12/88. I was a 16H. I was suppose to go to Bliss but a paperwork screwup sent me to Jackson. The best part was I was put on tank hill and we had one reg army DS for the platoon, The rest were ANG. we got a different set every 2 weeks. I remember seeing the inscriptions carved into the wood barrecks from WW2. I gotta tell ya i hated every minute then. Now Id give anything to go back.

  • A Co. 3rd Platoon 108th ProTrain May-July1992. For those who stepped up to defend our great Nation I Thank You for holding the line.

    The third herd (Tank Hill)

  • Those starships look like the one's at Ft. Sill

  • this looks like fun

  • I was in B. 128th Infantry basic training in the bldg next to Victory Tower. I had Drill Sergeants Bufford, Small, Graves and Cargins. I started in Dec 87 and graduated Mar 88 and was a holdover until Sept 88 due to Security Clearance issues caused by my parents having high security clearances and it was preventing my own from clearing. I dont remember any videos/yearbooks for my training battalion but I see others for sale on E-bay from Ft. Jackson during that time frame. Does anyone have one?

  • Oh man, that brings back memories... I went to Ft. Jackson from Dec 1980 to Feb 1981. Back then they gave us about 7 days to go home for the holidays after just being there for two weeks and when I got back there were about 10 people that never did come back LOL. Good ole Tank Hill B Co. 2BN. IBDE, 3rd Platoon SSG Smalls was one of the drill instructor's. Vietnam vet who was tough as nails. And back then you ran everywhere in your boots.

  • @MadBaby23602 those were the days,,,,, wow to think i was there too..C/ co 4th btl 1st platoon. on tank hill 1981 march. SSGT Brundige viet-nam vet didnt have tell me twice to do anything. and SSGTLopez female DI.

that was different. at the end of the 2nd week 6, knuckle heads jumped the fence on us. someone mom came to pick them up. shit it looks so easy now.

  • i love the way they gave shots in the 80's slitppp NEXT!!! lol they just use syringes now

  • holy crap it still looks like that today haha...

  • i was there in july to sept

  • The most memorable time of my life was when I came here for basic training back in Feb 1990 to June 1990... basic training and AIT

  • Anyone here go to FT Jackson in 1998???

  • July-Sept 1980....A/5/1....Sgt Lawerence/Sgt. Perez/Sgt Roland...Capt Gausvick co. commander Motto..."Raw meat Sgt. Raw meat... raaaaaaagh!"

  • i went to fort jackson in 2006, i thought it was easy then you know relaxin jackson but in 1988 if this is the correct year this looks even easier than today

  • I was at Ft Jackson from Sept. 1988- Dec. 1988. I spent almost 3 wks in Fitness Co. before making it to basic training. I was at Starship, A co. Gators, 1st Plt. Ninjas. graduated basic on Dec 15th 1988.

Is Tank Hill still there and the old WWII barracks? Still check for snakes on the Rifle range?

  • August 1982, hot as hell...and on Tank Hill in the old wooden barracks, no A/C, I was so tired I could sleep standing up.

  • @1964GJH We were there almost the same time...I started basic on July 5, 1980, sweated my butt off in those wooden WW2 barracks, reminds me of full metal jacket. Do u remember ur drill sgt's name? Just wondering

  • GOD thx so much I was there in Dec 86,yes was the same hair cut and a jean jacket, I left with Coca Cola pants and a CASSETTE of Bon jovi slippery when wet, yes look it up

  • relaxin in fort jackson.....

  • I was there in Sept. 1980

  • @JDeereGP I graduated Sept. 4th 1980........do u remember your Drill Sgt's name? Mine was Lawerence and sgt Perez...just curious

  • @neckarsulme SSG Weiss and SSG Haines.. I was in A-3-1

  • @JDeereGP A-5-1........Thanks

  • I was there in '84 in the summer. It sucked so bad marching in the sand. At that time the DI's could curse at us and there were no females training with the males.

I still have scares on my left arm from fire ant bites I suffered from a sand trap obstacle course called chipyani they used to punish us on.

  • OMG!

    I was here in 1989

this video brought back lots of memories.

    Thanks for sharing!

  • omg everything is the same still---i love fort jackson

  • summer of 1998

  • I was there in 1980. Oct. to Feb. 13 weeks basic. 5'2" female. It sucked. But rewarding.

Then off to Sam Houston. 91c

  • this brings back some big time memories......I went to basic there in Jan 94

  • they dont do the shots like this no more and its real quick doesnt really hurt

  • jan of 1980 I took my basic there

  • i was there jan 07,1988 til mar 1988 then it was on to AIT which was right up the hill. I wish there was a video out there to show what really went on......LOL

  • I was there same time you were. 13 Feb - 6 Apr 1988, 4th BN, 13th INF, Bravo Co... Thanks for posting this. It brought back some memories. Enough for me to pull out the "yearbook" they gave us. They never offered us a video. Now that would've been pretty cool to have. Thanks again.

  • just wondering..how badly do the shots hurt? i dnt wanna sound like a sissy...but seriously. someone please answer

  • Assuming that they still give shots this way, the needle is in and out before you know it, and it's like someone pinching your arm for a split second. The problem with shots is the anticipation leading up to the shots. It's really no big deal.

  • @bobgamacho I can confirm this. At reception in 2001 they had to rush us through and gave us at one point 5 shots at once. One in each arm, take a step forward, another in each arm, take a step forawrd, the least in the left arm. To tell you the truth, it felt like a dull ache, pretty mild. It's pretty easy to deal with, you just have to take that step forward. Keep your mind focused on that task and you'll barely notice the pinch.

  • @blythewoodbaseball these days it only hurts as much as a misquito bite

  • thanks for the heads up

  • hell yea dude...im 63B too....well will be november 16th lol

  • The key for me for AIT as a 63B was: Read The Manual. Everything you need to know is in the books. Only reason I finished 2nd in my class is because I didn't catch on to this quick enough.

When I was there in 1988, it was simply a continuation of Basic with a focus on repairing vehicles.

  • I was there from Dec '88-Apr'89. To me this is the best time to go to basic. It was hard training but without the heat and mosquitoes. I had basic and AIT there. Just wondering if there were any training videos made during my time there. E Co 3/28 IR 2nd BDE. LINE DAWGS

  • I'll bet the place was exactly the same when you went there. Basic was Jan-Mar, and it was pretty chilly at times. AIT was also at Jackson (63B) Mar-May. It started getting warm, but not bad by the time I went back to California.

I didn't experience southern heat and humidity until Redstone Arsenal, Alabama in August in 1990. That was ugly.

  • I went there in fall of 1980.. I liked it! And want more of it..

  • the army kicks ass.

  • I was B 1/34 at Jackson, Oct - Dec. 2008. Bravo Black Knights lead the way!

  • i graduated from 2/13th bn on march 27th, its a cakewalk to as ur told ace ur pt test and ur good, oh and ait sux's too!! 6more weeks and im going to korea!!!

  • I leave for Fort Jackson June 16 (63B) any tips you can give me?

  • Do what your told. Don't spend all your money in one place. On family day, don't buy any electronics until you get to AIT because you don't know what their policy on laptops and all that is.

  • ok cool thanks :)

i cant wait! i know its gonna be a change but i think im ready

  • Im thinking about joining when im 17...but thats not until the summer of '11...most of my family are in it so im joining. moms a specialist and dads an officer...dont know about the rest of my family...

  • 45B's lead the way HOOAH!!

  • leave 2009/4/7 for basic at ft jackson, thanks for posting the video

  • Best of luck in Basic. My only two bits of advice: Keep your mouth shut and memorize the Soldier's Handbook. And, never think that your M-16 is clean enough to turn back to your Drill Sergeant.

  • You are the first to give the M-16 tip, thanks for the advice.

  • leave for ft jackson 2009/4/28 88m anyone else ?

  • i am leaving 09/6/16 for 88mike

  • Close, I leave April 2009/4/21...

  • im leavin june 30th for basic. ahahaha "action jackson" co-ed base :)

  • 1Platoon, Alpha 1/34!!! July-October 2008!!!

    Alpha-gators!!!

  • Charlie Company Tank Hill 1986, Our barracks sure didnt look like those. we called those the Hilton.

  • These were the newer barracks. I thin, but am not 100% positive, that these were called "New Hollywood" when I was there. Definitely were newer buildings than Tank Hill.

  • i just graduated aug 29th 2008

    1/13th C co 4th plt maddogs hooah

  • This brought back many memories.

    A-1/34 MAR97 - AUG97.

  • haha, i just graduated too! B 1/34 2nd plt.

  • thats where i went to basic bravo 1-34, 4 plt fort jackson sc i go back jan 2 for ait 63 bravo

  • I'm slowly going through the MEPS process right now. Today I took my ASVAB test and I qualified for 63B... I'll probably be in Fort Jackson in a few months.

  • just keep a low profile and realize it's all a mind game in there. Don't show anything on your face when the drill sergeant goes off on you and just do as ordered. You'll be fine. God bless you and keep you. Thanks in advance for your service to our country.

  • Hey liviJones ill probabley see you at basic.

  • I appreciate your commentary throughout the video. It helps with the memories. Like having to through away my new pack of cigarettes and those "two" vials of blood!

  • Great vid. I went through BCT at Ft. Jackson 9/89 - 12/89. The only difference was we had the kevlars instead of the Nam-era steel pots. Past that, it was all good. Pity they excluded the night trench/beach assault with live fire tracers overhead and (safety pit) explosions going on all around. It was the longest crawl of my life...

  • The other thing that was changing while I was in Basic was the boots. About 1/2 our platoon had th style books, the other half the speedlace boots.

The night shoot and the low crawl. We did go through the long crawl with the shots being fired above us. We also did the night shoot with gas masks. The Drill Sergeants wouldn't let anyone with glasses wear the inserts. There's no way I could have hit any of my targets. Any, my inserts were the plastic tye with the two prongs out of each end.

  • i was on tank hill right on the dessert.3bt,61 st infantry in 1986 ,i think we were chainstroke, had a awesome time, a class mates son is there right now

  • i like the new ACUs so much better than these BDUs. can't wait to proudly wear mine in less than 2 weeks!

  • Unfortunately i forgot my company's name in ft jackson but i was there around 1993 in october and did my ait at ft gordon, GA. my first duty station was with the 194th armor bde(ft knox)in 94, then to 18th mp bde in 95 to 97 at coleman baracks(mannheim, germany) in 96 i served in tusla, bosnia. what a great experience. however, i am sucessful now i wish i stayed the whole 8 years...shout out to sgt. burton, sgt. green, pfc beard, pfc. walker, cpt elle, spc rodney harrison my buddie at ft knox

  • charlie 134!

  • i did bct in alpha 1/34 and did ait in charlie 187

  • After all these years, I remember my Basic Training company, but I cannot remember my AIT company. I was a 63B, so I also did my AIT at Fort Jackson. We just moved about 5 miles down the road to barracks that had 8-man rooms.

I started smoking again after basic training, and I improved my 2-mile run by about 30 seconds. Go figure that one out.

  • whats so crazy so of my fellow soldiers would smoke a cigarette before the 2mile run and there time was just over 12minutes...

  • Great video...i did basic the following summer of 89 at the famous tank hill. alpha co 108th protrain.believe it or not i miss that hot sandy place.alost 20 yrs later and almost done with my 20 yrs...gonna miss the army..hopefully ill get to stay another 10yrs

  • Echo 1/34!! hooah!

  • It's great to see this video, I can't imagine Fort Jackson in a Field Jacket though. When I was there it was one of the hottest summers on file to that date. Then I left for Fort Gordon Ga. and the Georgia heat. I was in the 4th Bn 13th Inf (4th Platoon) right at the foot of Tank Hill.

  • yea my ait was at ft gordon too. my mos was 31uniform. we use to party at hojos or what ever hotel for the weekend...i had a great time there

  • At first I thougt this was the start of Stripes. Great video.
