hey you did a really good job on the song. I've wanted to get into playing an instrument like that and I agree with going cheap to start with. No sense wasting money if you end up not liking the instrument. Where'd you buy yours? I like the sound it produced so I might pick one up.

LOL I hope I can at least play something audible when I get mine. Here's a tip :Keep one hand stationary while the other pumps (The "piano"\ lotsa buttons side moves and you keep the other one still) this way you can better control the airflow and it also helps with concentration. Keep at it and keep posting...

@BlackFolkAndPiano well I bought mine back when I was young in '97 or so when the dollar was strong and mine cost about $40, and I easily made $80 playing it at a folk festival, I don't know how I managed to do that, but still I wish I had a really good accordion.

So I commented earlier on about this and found one on eBay for a total of 12 bucks. so if it gets ruined its not to bad. But i started messing around and I can't read or play music very well but a lot of my campers at a summer camp this year loved the thing. and whenever someone plays it for the first time they are smiling. I'm going to try to learn how to play the hornpipe song from this.

well i left this in the car and came out and the heat had melted the glue inside the box...so it was just a bunch of loose reeds bouncing around...i shoulda tried the mini bag pipe before trashing the thing : ]

i don't even know what partitions are...i know the melody pretty good so i just picked it out by ear

It's only got a few notes! Just waggle the keys a bit until you get the hang of where the notes are, then pick a tune you know really well (I recommend Twinkle Twinkle Little Star), and pick the notes out one by one till you have the hang of it. As a hint, I think the C (the home key and the first note of Twinkle Twinkle) is the second button from the top. On push.

Once you've worked out the tune, add in the basses with the other hand, just tap them gently in time with the tune.

The only problem with these accordions is that the bellows creek, and the buttons get stuck some times... Other than that these things are great!

Was it worth it. I would love to have a button box accordion or even better a concertina one but they are too expensive for my budget. I have never played accordion but I own some drums, what do you recommend. Was it easy to learn and mess around on?

it's easy enough...but...its kiknda a game of chance...what you see in the video is the first one i got..then it got left in a car and the heat melted the glue holding the reeds on the inside...got another one...and it was terribly out of tune...so i dunno...but it was fun while i had one in decent tune : ]
