Russia needs to understand that it is a brand now. It will need cool things like the fastest yacht honors and billionaires that go into space to keep them cool throughout the next few decades.
It's very interesting that with all that "new" money they don't spend it on prestigious yacht races and F1, Ishares etc. Where are the Russians? Come on guys you are competitive and strong let's see that on the race course! :)
The world speed record is 52.26kts, set by the Sail Rocket. L'Hydroptère has also set some records (fastest during 500 meters and during a nautic mile).
But these are short track records set by multihull boats. Ericsson 4 set the 24 hour record on monohull boats.
The Volvo Open 70 definitely is the fastest monohull yacht for long track races, but saying that Team Russia had the fastest boat as the reporter does, just isn't correct. That honour probabely is Puma's.
Russian propaganda. Team Russia came last

Know what would squeeze some extra speed out of that boat? Twin 2000hp turbine engines with surface drives.

Monohulls are not the world's fastest sailboats. Haven't been for quite some time.

how can anyone put a mono as the fastest??, as skycaptain says more hulls are farster , longer waterlines with less surface area
alohayt3 8 months ago
Not less surface area, but narrow hulls with great resistance to heeling, which means the sail's force goes into speed.
BenjaminFranklin99 7 months ago
Maybe the fastest monohull, but as far as yachts go racing tris and cats are faster.

Wow what an idea! I've noticed the same principle on powerboats, and even some kayaks. Its awesome that he is applying this concept to sailing.

Most trimaran racers are a lot faster than this
z98908 2 years ago
tri's are, cus they dont carry the extra weight of the keel which also alows em to stay more upright under heavier winds. (ya?
)

hydroptere. 64.1kts...then it pitchpoled
defleppard10294 2 years ago
I think it was 61 knots when it capsized
(still extremely fast)

Considering all the Russian billionaires there are, it's sad team russia couldn't finish the race because no one would sponsor them

As far as I know, the sailboat record is held
by the french " Hydroptère " hydrofoil trimaran
with 47,2 knots.
But I gues if you tried to go long distance on it, you will eventually kill yourself :-)
Xigano1 3 years ago
nope its now held by a new zealand trimaran called yellow pages endevour at 51.6kts
defleppard10294 2 years ago
Those boats are both hydro foil boats, can't really be compared to these boats. Let's compare apples to apples.
