Jeter is having a good season but he's not the MVP, not even the MVP on his own team. Mauer should win it because he has far and away the best numbers in the AL and he plays catcher, which makes his stats even more valuable. He won't get it though because voters have some weird fixation on only voting for guys on winning teams
