@jj420716 so you wouldn't even try to make your own adapters?? It isn't that difficult to solder a good couple of connections, and plugs and sockets can be bought very cheaply!!
the amp function is to check current draw of a semicunductor or electronics, not to mesure how much power or current puts out, it most be wired in series. you probality just blew the fuse in side or burn the current option... looks likea a good product but is way big.. how much does it goes for... like you say is good to have when you go out camping..
the connectors are probably for a 12v car battery to power your tech devices through the 12v power point in the car, maintaining the battery on a trickle charge to make it through your camping trip. Or get 10 of em and series them together for 120v and sit in the sun.
@PeterTheEater I am sorry to tell you that this electrical devices can not kill a mouse.
the amps are changing in function of your Voltage and resistance. This test was actualy without any resistance. The resistance of a human is around 1000Ohms (max.) and using the Ohms law(V=R.I)with our 9V solar panel you get around 0.009Amps(max). So calm down, No body is going to get hurt with that(1Amps = (in most case)DEATH.
@MoronixProduct3 Are you stupid or what? The human body has many MOhms of resistance, not 1kOhms. Also, no, with 9V you CAN be hurt if the 9V is pulled towards a low impedance highly conductive material such as a watch or gold ring. You CAN be seriously injured, this doesn't boil down to Ohm's law. There's many factors and 50 mA is enough to kill you, however that's at around 40V. If you knew anything about Electrical Engineering you would not give such terrible advice. Please refrain from it.
you have a 7970???? are they new, why come i haven't heard of them, i must of been away from the pc world to long..i been in the firearm world, soon im going back into the aircraft world
Hmm. Not "the window"! Lots of people misunderstand how solar panels work. They can produce a charge with any visible light as long as it is enough, of this I am sure...
The moon glows by reflecting sunlight. So does that mean that if you had a Solar Panel sensitive enough, you could charge it at night on a full or gibous moon?
OMG I almost cried YOU CANT MEASURE THE CURRENT IN PARALLEL! YOU HAVE TO PUT A LOAD f.e. 12V BULB AND CONNECT THE MULTIMETER IN SERIES FROM F.E. - (MINUS CABLE) TO MULTIMETER (THROUGHT IT) AND THEN TO BULB. THE SECOND CABLE YOU SHOULD HOOK UP STRAIGHT TO BULB. AND YOU ALSO HAVE TO INSERT YOUR RED CABLE TO ANOTHER HOLE FOR 10A USUALLY. IF YOU WILL ATTEMPT TO DO IT AS LINUS DID, YOU WILL PROBABLY END UP WITH DESTROYED MULTIMETER AND THE DEVICES YOU CONNECTED TO IT. TRUST ME I KNOW WHAT IM SAYING
Umm I think you are meassuring amps the wrong way. You have to connect the multimeter in-line with the power source with the other connector to the left of the ground connector on the meter.
To measure amps you need to plug your voltmeter in a circuit with something. For example, you can measure how much amps a light bulb can pull out of the solar panel.
@themonster1307 Actually, you don't measure amps with a voltmeter. You measure it with an Ammeter or with a multimeter on the amperage setting. Also, you have to run it in series, not parallel.
@themonster1307 afaik you can measure how much amps any power supply can give like that. Because when measuring with ammeter it is short-circuited and it will take as many amps as possible. Don't try that with 12V car battery, those batteries give much more that regular ammeter can handle. But 1.5V battery is okay, they usually can't give you over 10A. You actually can measure if battery is full or not by short-circuiting it with ammeter.
@Viltzu2 Please explain to me how a battery CAN'T give you over 10 Amps during a short circuit. 1.5 V / .1Ohms for example is 15 Amps. Also before you say anything, yes it's possible. If you understood the chemistry behind batteries you'd know how much power is in 1.5 V battery. That's why Li-Ion batteries are required by law to have over-current and feedback protection when used because they have a higher chance of blowing up causing death and house fires. Don't ever measure current in parallel
@Nadrealis I was talking about 1.5V AA Alkaline batteries. They USUALLY can't give over 10A. AFAIK. Their internal resistance is maybe somewhere between 150mA - 300mA, so yeah, it could give over 10A but I have never seen one. Haven't really ever done that with all new battery. But I'm haven't researched about this stuff really. This is just what one teacher said to our class. And I know I haven't seen any alkaline 1.5V battery that has given over 10A :P
@Viltzu2 You're right to say that they have an internal resistance but it's not in mA. That's current. It's usually somewhere around .4 - 2 ohms of internal resistance. They typically deliver around 700 mA peak. They're rated in mAH (milliAmp Hours.) Tell your teacher to cite his sources next time.
@donyario cause from 3:47 till the end of the video, he keeps trying but not sure of what he was doing or mistaking on the S.I unit of the results like volt or ampere, i was waiting for him to say coulomb, its as if he had never got into a practical of physics class, that's why we wanted to know if he do or did physics or not :)
Linus, you disappointed me with your current measuring skill. :) You need to connect multimeter in series between the solar panel and a device you want to power. Current needs to flow through the multimeter.
You can't measure the current like that. You need a small resistor (100 Ohm is more than enough) and measure the voltage drop. Divide that by the value of the resistor and you've got the current flowing.
To all those raging about hardware, Linus only got back from CES a couple of days ago, and he's only interested in producing good content, I'm sure he's working on a 7970 vid, but he wants to include benchmarks. Anyway, its still a curious product.
@tschouschai Wrong. It's just change in measuring precision IE measuring on a smaller scale. It's like trying to measure the length of a room with a ruler instead of a tape measure, you wouldn't need the precision down to a mm.
@CeIebrityGamer depends what you want to play, and how much of a graphics wh0re you are.. gl with playing new games on max settings at 1080p or more on 5750
Assuming that everyone uses a 1080p monitor, which isn't the case. I for one only use a 19" monitor with a 1440x900 resolution and a HD6770 (OC'd) which gives decent frame rates (lets say 40-50fps) with new games (BF3 for example) on max settings.
@qlplayer952 Lol I think everyone knew linus next vid right after elric posted that would be spammed with elric wanted to know where he was lol. Now to see if linus sees any of these comments that elric wanted him and see if he checks out that vid.
One does not simply call a multimeter "stupid".
