??? From which movie were those closing credits at the end of this video? Not complaining - I know I've seen the film, but I'm having a brain cramp and can't remember which it is.
funny, though...i always thought this was the pet shop boys and i could never find it on their albums! hooray to omd for instilling another incredible influence on my life and my own music too!
Great Music lyrics and vocals - they did very well in the usa with their music. Great live band - I caught them at 3 show from - 2 in 1985 one i believe 1988
The fans were phenomenal - and then after their solo tyour, they opened for the Thompson Twins in Buffalo at the Shea Theater (wonder if that is still in businness..
My lats time seeing omd was when they opened for Depeche Mode tour (I think it was for Depeche Mode's Music for the Masses album).
I have a secret, this group OMD and this song reminds me of my ex-girlfriend that has gone out of my life......the secret is i still care for her......its the way she goes, what was once and never again....but now you all know of my secret!! Long live the 80's
When I bought the CD single of 'Dreaming' in 1988 it had the 12'' mix of 'Secret' included. I loved the catchy tune - it became one of my favorite OMD songs!
I love this song! Reminds me when I was a freshman in college. I used to attend these parties that my sister organized with her high school friends. And I had a BIIIGGGG CRUUUSSHHHH with one of her really gorgeous friend. It was my secret!!! ;)
Oh my god. I've been an OMD fan for a long time but I never really looked at this song. My god its great, so new wavy too. I love finding new old songs by a band I thought I liked only to find when I look deeper there is still more gold after years.
@Ferrers88, OMD has two vocalists. The lead singer is Andy McCluskey. This is Paul Humphreys singing. He generally sang backup, but he did sing some of OMD's best songs!
Choooooooooon! Can remember falling asleep everynight listening to 'Crush' on my Murphy midi system that I bought from from earnings as a paper boy... much simpler times.
It's well crafted songs like this that really makes me love pop music. Yet, the sh** that is passed on as pop music now a days is worthless. Back in the 80's even pop music demanded good talent, song writing, and a catchy tune. None of that is present in today's music at all.
I remember staying up until midnight during summer break playing cards (I was 11-12 y/o) with my brother and sisters, eating chips and salsa, and listening to 80's songs from bands like OMD, then hitting beach the next day or walking down the street to hang out with my good friends. We're all living apart now in different states but I'll always love those times when we used to live together in the same household.
So thankful that with Youtube I can prop these songs for free anytime. Sweet!
@shogunsong You could listen to music back then and be transported to another world. Music so whimsical and dreamlike. Can't say that about todays "music".
This song makes an "flashback" to the 80-ties.That was my best Time in life,i was young and all around was clear and marvelous.
And today??The wolrd is going down in little steps, and we took part in it.The younger generations are confused about their Future that we have "built" them.
DJClinton, the black and white images are supposed to evoke a memory of times past. The way someone would remember their childhood crush and the events that were taking place at the time.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
What the fuck did that video have to do with the song? A bunch of random clips of nothing? Or was that the "secret"? I just don't get it. Low budget video..This is why the 80's suck!
@ericdetroit What a homophobic hater? What made you think this is homophobic video? Look, if you're like one of those American who think New Wave is gay, then this type of music is not for you. Don't insult this please!!!!
see in the 80s, the music was of importance, whereas the video took a back seat (except for michael jackson of course). Nowadays, you got great videos but mediocre music. take your pick
@djclintonk And this is why negativity rules? Why complain? What have this band done to make you such a negative person? And for one, why are you giving out such negative comments? If you don't like this video, don't watch it for God's sakes.

the secret is that he was gay or bi and he couldn´t tell her for som reason. anyway, we can interpretate this song in the way we want. this is one of the best eightees songs. OMD will always be the best.
That said, it's a brilliant song. Their best. Made my top 5 of 1985 out of almost 200 songs I considered. It takes a very very special song to bust into my yearly top 10, beating out my fave groups and this song did it (along with "High Fashion" by "The Family"). No idea why it tanked in the US charts. Should have made top 5. To "veranosummer": I completely agree. As of the early/mid 90's, I stopped doing my top 10 because there weren't even 10 remotely decent songs per year anymore.
In response to mikeandcooper: I always thought the secret was that he was gay because it sounded like "you can't "F" me and make me feel it's worth my while". It would make sense. If I were OMD, I would have done a "take two" and made it sound more like "comfort". For some lame reason, Brits don't pronounce the "R" unless it's at the beginning of a word so this is the type of misunderstanding that often occurs. Then they add an "R" sound to words ending with an "A". Friggin' weird. "Ameriker"?
Who doesn't love Secret? This song was in our heads during those evenings of summer and bicycle escapades, that student's gala dance and some broken hearts. There were some secrets we could reveal and then, for good or for worse, some secrets were kept, now late for regrets...
this was all over the "alternative rock" stations in summer '85 during out unnofficial, annual "6th grader picnic" back in '85... does that make me old?
or dear god. really ? where in the the song did you hear that. look up the lyrics. this is such a sweet love song. one of the greatest groups of the 80"s one of the best song ever. no where in the song does it say " you can't *uck me.
I heard what mikeandcooper was talking about. At 2:15 - I can understand how someone could hear this incorrectly. After looking up the lyrics... "you comfort me...".
I wonder if people were just better then, or if there were more beautiful people I don't know, just trying to figure why so many beautiful things came from this time and why so much now seems of such lower quality.
this song take's me right back to junior high school,,as i remember making out with my 1st girlfriend after my last class at the far end of the parking lot!!!! ohhhh what great 80's memories!!!!!!

First there was OMD that we know, and they made expectations true.
Then came OMD with a nice message of peace and love.
The applause for "Sister Mary" was huge and lasted long.
Some people , I did ,stood up for love!
Then the show went on.
So was their concert in AB Belgium nov 2010 .
And it was nice and good.

or dear god. really ? where in the the song did you hear that. look up the lyrics. this is such a sweet love song. one of the greatest groups of the 80"s one of the best song ever. no where in the song does it say " you can't *uck me.

I heard what mikeandcooper was talking about. At 2:15 - I can understand how someone could hear this incorrectly. After looking up the lyrics... "you comfort me...".

I wonder if people were just better then, or if there were more beautiful people I don't know, just trying to figure why so many beautiful things came from this time and why so much now seems of such lower quality.

i grew up in the 80's, and its funny u say that, as i always thought the same about the 60's.

Of course--it's called the 20-year nostalgia gap. It takes 20 years for people to get nostalgic for their youth (sometimes less).
It's why Grease & American Graffiti came out in 70's, Stand ByMe & Platoon in the 80's, and Dazed & Confused in the 90's.
Next decade, there will be nostalgia for 90's stuff (already beginning)

good logic but i wonder what 90s nostalgia will be comprised of - grunge all over again??
