  • This is a rare video of Ed Coan, who had the world record at 181 with 529 pounds BENCH LIFT !!

    thats 2.9X his bodyweight..

  • Ed is the best ever. 215-225 and he lifts the same or more than the fat boys 100lbs + his weight.

  • @Friday13thTaurus If at all possible.

  • no doubt he could have done 600 that day

  • Eddie is one of powerlifting's all-time best, no question. Here he smashes two touch-and-go reps with 555, raw, weighing under 230. When combined with his feats in the squat and the deadlift, it is obvious what a freak he truly is. Heck, the man pulled over 900 weighing, like, 219 pounds. Probably would have pulled more, but he wasn't ever able again to use a sumo stance, his preferred style.

Guy can just move weight like nobody's business.

  • Dont ya all forget guys this person weighted at his time 225 and lifts like a 300+ person

  • @muzimuzi You forget to mention one more thing. The size. It's cool that we know his bodyweight but what about his size. Being 300 pounds 5'6" midget with T-rex arms or 6'8' with arms as long as his legs that would be pretty interesting. Don't you think? Seems like nobody want to put this fact in order on any meet in the world. Interesting. Looks like one way ticket to me.

  • @m5p944 he had a good structure he could bench a lot while deadlift shitloads or what are you trying to say ? or were you just dropping off some points?

  • you the man ed ! love your routines use them for all our powerlifting meets thanks!

  • 98% of ya will never even come close to doing this with or without drugs so quit your stupid critiquing

  • he's got long arms, some of these benchers got such short arms it is almost comical

  • there's a few dudes nowadays that can easily beat Coans bench press here...but none of them have the awesome Total that defines the true Powerlifter...ED COAN FTW

  • its amazing he is still alive.all the red meat and drugs..

  • at least he isnt wearing one of them dumbass bench shirts

  • yeah i agree with you i work out with mike every once and awhile at The Gym, he is benching over 600 lbs raw almost every week at a bodyweight of about 230 or so. That is crazy and he is one of the best benchers around today

  • Mike siegler.....

  • Ok, ok he maybe loads heavier but how about mike siegler. 605lb raw bench x 3, and 405lb x 20.... With proven "real ", weights. Lol.... Any takers.

  • James Henderson can beat all these and he's clean he took 3 separate drug tests prior to an exhibition lift session and benched 317.5kg, squatted 480kg, and deadlifted 400kg, all unequipped, beat that ed coan, or Andy Bolton......

  • @brendan6022 Oh really? What exhibition was this? James Henderson is a freak no doubt but a 480 kg squat would be a world record. So I don't think so buddy.

  • @brendan6022 Those weights are questionable but either way henderson was an absolute monster. BUT he also weighed around 400 pouds

  • @brendan6022 LOL at him not taking steroids. Very funny story I am listening all over YouTube from people who believe in "superhumans". :)

  • @brendan6022 well first hes not clean lol.... second coan mightve been more clean back at the days u didnt have roids... and third he weights like 100 pound MORE than coan ....

  • As great as James Henderson was, testing negative for steroids doesn't mean you didn't use any. Coan tested clean many many times in the same federation as Henderson before finally testing positive once.

  • James Henderson weighed 390 pounds and did not deadlift or squat more than Ed Coan. He benched more than him, but again, he weighed 390 pounds when he benched 711 raw. And I'm not sure where you saw that Henderson squatted that much, he blew out his knee playing college football like 25 years ago. He only won bench press titles in the IPF.

  • @Ludichris8531 Who cares what was his bodyweight? Do whatever it takes to beat that shit load of weight. If you think extra bodyweight helps than do it.

  • Actually, body weight is a big deal in powerlifting...that's why they have weight classes. When someone who is under 242 pounds is squatting close to 1000 and deadlifting over 900 as well as benching in the 550 range it's incredibly impressive. And yes, increasing body weight aids bench press performance a lot, so it's very much more impressive when a 300 pound guy benches 700 than a 400 pound guy.

  • This guy is on another level than mere mortals.. 555x2 RAW, and the bench was his worst lift! INSANE!

  • but he bounces

  • this guy is almost as beast as johnnie jackson, i think this guys one rep max is about 10-20 pounds heavier than his two rep max.

  • @MonkeyParts92 He's much more beast than Johnie Jackson. Coan still holds squat and deadlift records. He deadlifted over 900 and squatted over 1000 weighing under 220.

  • @TheWingedRaptor i understand this now i have done research since i posted this comment!

but they aren't even in the same sport they couldn't compete Johnnie Jackson is a Bodybuilder this guy is a powerlifter! they aren't even trying to accomplish the same goal!

  • @MonkeyParts92 actually, johnnie jackson is also a competitive powerlifter lol. Still, the bodybuilding training and that being his main focus will take away from his powerlifting, still an exceptionally strong guy though, but you're right, not nearly as strong as Coan and never will be, he was a freak

  • No fair! He bounced! ( just kidding)

  • yes it's well know he was on roids like all powerlifters. But still he had increadibley freaky genetics for weight lifting.

  • Beast.

  • That guy is amazing!

  • Wow! Great lifts!

  • Ed Coan - best ever

  • Strongest powerlifter ever! 555x2 is insane for a 220lb lifter, and the bench is his worst lift..I believe the raw world record at 220 in the bench is 600,Ed could have come close to breaking that..Ed squatted over 950 and deadlifted 900 as a 220,wow!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • even the great coan bounces the bar from time to time ;D

555 lbs...you should deserve to bounce. haha

  • that was to powerlifter501 =/

  • that's more impressive than this crap today and their metal gear and inzer crap!

  • Yes

  • Yes, I lived with him and babysat his kids when I was a teenager. He never had any form of steroids around at all. One time he didn't train for 7 months because of a pec tear and deadlifted 769 without a belt. The man is just a freak. He barely trains anymore and he is still huge. When guys get off roids they shrink so how do you explain him still weighing 275 just like he did 15 years ago?

  • you seriously think bull stewart wasnt on juice? thats naive

  • It was the ADFPA he ran from. Back then the worlds strongest drug free man was Andrew "Bull" Stewart and Coan wanted nothing to do with him. Stewart still has the all time deadlift record and he was 242 lbs. His total was 2149 @ 242 lbs. Coan was on juice so he didn't qualify for the ADFPA look it up.

  • Many run from the ADFPA! (USAPL). Of course there are some that beat the system, but overall, you don't see APF like numbers for a REASON. We all know Coan's test results...I've never been and never will be impressed by "assisted" numbers.

  • Shut the fuck up you stupid faggot

  • Seven semi-coherent words to form a sentence. You get a gold star and a brownie for a treat after lunch. It will be in your Hannah Montana lunch box.

  • ludi, you know that eddie has used right? he's admitted it in the past.

  • Comment removed

  • I mostly agree. However, what if some guys get more benefit from drugs than others?

  • Comment removed

  • I agree... eating, training, sleeping are "natural" things we do. Eating and sleeping are required to live. Training to be strong.

A gassed lifter vs. a gassed lifter isn't necessarily a level playing field though as some lifter get more benefits from drugs than others.

What I really hate is people hiding behind this stuff, denying use and pretending to be something they are not. Then they are idol worshiped. Why couldn't Ed just be Ed and kick ass without the drugs?

  • where do you see hes on drugs?

  • ...its never synthetic nads in a syringe that get people ANYWHERE, its not that easy..

still requires years and years of HARD WORK..

  • @rantanen1 .this is true ....i will not lie i was a 505 bencher in my late 20's and then i went to the gear yes i did a perfect 600 pounder but the injuries i have from switching from non natural are to going last me forever i what a mistake .

  • Lol thats funny, it still takes just as hard to get to where they are.

  • holy shit, that was easssy too

  • people say he was running from some professional organisation (drugfreeathletes) back in 1985 can you name this federation for me please.

  • I think it was the IPF

  • he competed in the ipf though

  • Those are pretty good touch and go reps. Far better form than 99% of the tools in the gym. But not a competition grade lift. He's a true phenom.

  • Such a neutral post, I don't know whether to give u reps or diss, I CAN'T DECIDE AAAAAAAAAH nah good post!

  • its not easy doing that sort of weight without a bench shirt. thats a very stromg raw bench mate

  • It's hard to believe that the bench is his 'weak' lift! That guy was one of the two or three best powerlifters of all time.

  • Wow, Coan's a beast, no doubt about that.
