I'm a kayak fisher and this knot is going to be sooo helpful when im out there with and gotta get it tied up quickly without the need of any tricky manouvers. personally, I think tying a snell is great and quick too but its not applicable to every set up, so thank you for this vid!
this is the strongest/easiest knot I have found, an I put it to the test with 8 pnd mono, the line will break way before the knot will ever let go. Thanks for the vid
hello i am 12 and i would like to become a pro fisher man some day i fish as much as i can i cought a 7.4 pounder in canada if any one could give me some tips i would be tankful and im going to try this knot and what crank bait is that and i have been making my own luers and its realy hard but its fun
This is an excellent knot! Thanks for posting. I always hated changing lures because I never really got too effecient with palomar's, as my vision isnt the greatest. This knot is just as strong and 100x faster. Using on 10 lb mono right now and it works great. Keep the videos coming!
Roger your videos have improved my fishing a great deal. I am also a user of this knot. My buddies look at me when I tie it and just smile. Hasn't failed me yet! But they won't try it either. knuckleheads!!
Hey Roger -- I've been using this knot for a year now since I saw your video. I use it all the time now. I've had a couple times using 17-pound Floro when the line broke right at the knot. It wasn't the knot that failed, but the break came right at the knot each time. Have you noticed any different performance for this know based on Floro vs Mono, and 8-10lb test vs 17-20 lb test?
i use this method on braid and never had an issue. i dont flip the lure though, i do all the twists by hand, light braid i do 9 twists, heavy stuff i do 7... then to remove it just pinch the knot with your nails and pull it back up.. :) the harder the fish pulls the tighter the knot..
mate, what you lack in size you make up in bloody excellent informative videos you share on youtube, my hat off to you sir. this simple knot kicks serious ass, thanks heaps. thumbs up!
This is the only not I've ever used. My dad taught me it the first time i ever went fishing, great knot and I'm surprised at how its not used in shows
Roger - I have tied this knot on very light braid (5lb I think). Had issues with my lure (crayfish jig) coming off. Have had success tying it but feel I am getting something wrong all of a sudden. Any thoughts?
@Kbomba3 Pzlamar knots take some time and you have to do them just right or you will have problems with the line ginf over the eye. you need to take the time to do it right. I do use the Palamar knot on the water but most of the time i go with this faster high quality knot.
I began using this knot last year after watching your video. It's a great knot, super fast, works a little better with heavy line than light line. 4 or even 6 pound test I have some problems with line burn, but 8 pound and up I have no problems. Never had the knot fail, on one or two occasions got snagged and had to break off and the line broke before the knot did.
@suttonrosencrantz start with the tag end hand twice as high as the main line hand. take the main lind hand and also grab the tag end line down about 6 inches. spinn lure around the tag end line about 5 times. it is all in the video. you should try tieing the knot with the video and pause the video till you catch up to each movement. hope this helps!
I started using this knot late summer 2010, I am a believer. Quick and easy, and very strong. I switch lures a lot most days so this knot really saves time. Haven't tried it with braid, just mono and flouro.
I just started watching your video's today for the past 10 minutes or so. Someone wrong you or something...lol. I have learned years worth of info in just a few minutes thanks to you! Great info, and thanks for your knowledge!
i field tested this for both crappie and bass it broke on the knot every once in a while when they ran me to cover theres another knot i used that it never broke ot was always my line that broke first its in the video The Best Fishing Knot bye tarpman though i like the knot u showed us how to tie for me its qiucker for pretty muck the same streght i used monfilemnt because i was throwing curly tail grubs for crappie and spinner baits for bass is this know for florocorbon?
Its the San Diego Jam knot. I searched all the knot videos on youtube to be able to finally understand this knot. There is only one other guy showing this knot to my knowledge.
This is my favorite knot because if you get fish fever and have shaky hands then you can go to it on this knot without any problems and it really is a hell've strong knot too.
Roger is my hero man, I started fishing when I found his channel. He is inspiring.
Some have talked about braid and this knot. I make one change with braid. I tie an overhand knot on the tag end near the main knot and it will never slip!
First person i've seen who also uses this knot. Definitely a great quick knot, but i don't trust it when using high test braided line. But when it comes to quickly retying with mono, it's great.
@heartlesspinto I would like to tell you about a knot I use to put line on my reel. I use a slip knot. There are two ways to tie a slip knot. The right way is: if you pull on the main line the knot will tighten up. If you do this and the knot loosens up you tied it the wrong direction. After you tie the knot the right way put two overhand knots on the tag end and near the main knot. As you pull the knot tight the over hand knots pull up onto the slip knot and the slip knot will not slip.
@exbassguide Thanks. I'll write this down. I'll be spooling some new line in the next couple of days.
I have a question for you. What's your favorite knot for fluorocarbon and why? I tie the usual palomar knot with 15lb on a medium action rod. I chose medium because i was told fluorocarbon is a bit brittle and has weak knot strength. For flipping jigs, it's been great to me. I've lost a few around 5lbs in trees, but who knows if those would've even bit with braid in that clear water.
hey i just got the new camo braid spiderwire line(10 lb test) and i tied a clinch knot...i casted out, got a fish, and i lost the fish and the lure...its never happened before(i no VERY WELL how to tie these knots)...is there some specific knot i might have to use for this kind of line? cuz the clinch knot just slips off...PLEASE HELP ME ROGER...i dont wanna empty my tackle box haha
@13cdsmith If you're gonna fish with braid, don't fish with 10 lb, it's way too small in diameter. If you're fishing with a spinning rod and small lures, catching smaller fish, stick to mono. Mono is cheaper, less visible, and easier on cheaper equipment.
One Suggestion. you should try looping the line through the hook eye twice instead of just once before you spin it around.
I do this, and believe it or not i was fishing some rocks with a jig and hooked a bass, i bring it up and release it. I check my jig and knot as i always do before re casting, come to find out one of the loops was broken (assuming it snagged a rock) but luckily i double looped it, so the second loop held strong and i didnt lose the fish.
@TheWoefman You could tie a fly with this knot you just change how you tie the knot.
If you look in the video I tie the knot with my line horizontal and the bait spins vertical. Another way to tie the knot I would hold the line vertical (my right hand high). Now instead of spinning the lure I rotate the left hand around the bait. I will do a video response to show you later. Then you run the tag end thru the loop and cinch the knot.
That is the only knot I have ever used. My dad taught it to me when I started to go fishing. I have never lost a fish because of the knot. That is a great knot an very easy to do.
Hey Roger, thats the knot i use called the reverse blinch knot. my favorite knot as well as the palomar, i use thes when fishing hard baits for soft baits i use the palomar

I just wanted to add that... you can double up the line and than do it. Seems to be somewhat better for heavier use.
I have used a single line and knot broken when I was fighting a salmon. When I doubled it... it held extremely gooD.

Question on Light Baits Using this knot do you have trouble spinning the lure to make the knot? Such as say a Worm Hook ?

When I tie a worm hook i just make the line longer from my lower hand to the hook so the is easier to tie. Good question!
