Of course, you could argue that Takato/Guilmon and Beelzemon were the only two that obtained a mode beyond mega, unless you count rika/renamon giving their power to justimon, which would make it three again. Yeah, but in a way it's always kind of been like that. In Digimon Adventure, Taichi and Yamato were the only ones to have their digimon reach Ultimate(Mega) Level and I don't think anyone else ever got to that level, even in Adventure 02.

It made sense in Digimon Tamers though, since Takato, Jenrya, Ruki and Impmon/Beelzebumon all had reached the peak of their character development, Ryo technically already had his character development in the Wonderswan games, Leomon was killed by Beelzebumon, Hirokazu, Kenta and Shaochung received their partners too late to develop their characters and Alice was a Deus ex Machina.

It makes me think that it's kinda a smart move: if today's episode need a lot of time to tell a lot of stuff, they won't waste too much time on transformation scenes; if today's episode has the problem of filling a full episode's length...well, just use transformation's scene to fill the gap!

They did these transformations so many times in the show, but I almost never get tired of watching them even during the later half of the story.

Occasionally I'd get frustrated that they'd do each person's transformation one by one when I wanna see the battles already, but a lot of time they still knew when to stop when it needed to be stopped.

Two possibilities. First, the transformation is basically instantaneous; the sequence we see is just a detailed slowdown. I tend to assign this to things like Sailor Moon and this show. Otherwise, there could be a field protecting them during the transformation; GaoGaiGar had one of these, and in fact in one episode the enemy -did- try to attack during transformation, but was blocked.

Also, do people not realise how inspired the musical direction is in this series. They took hold of the idea of the 'spirits' and the looks of them (totems) and developed a genuinely amazing sound to tie in with the feel of the season.

Truly brilliant music, it's amazing to go back and watch the series after nearly 15 years and find that I still enjoy them. I admit my favour lies with the dubs just because of nostalgic value but I'm lucid in my 'fan-ness' to realise there are aspects of both versions that are better and worse throughout Digimon's entirety.

Personally I have enjoyed music from both versions but Goddamn if I don't get goosebumps when hearing this music. (and the western 'theme song' from earlier seasons).
