  • THE PROFESSOR

  • to say neil peart sucks at drumming is like saying kobe bryant sucks at basketball...

  • Neil Peart rulezzzzz!

  • neil's diversity, and complexity of working out the drab drum solo, and turning it into an actual rhythmic piece of music, is genius..he's a true musician, and percussionist and drummer..and innovator and pioneer of modern rock drumming , just as ringo and Bonzo did before him..drumming is not about tricks, chops and blinding speed and technique ..it's about musicality..krupa, rich, morello, roach, bellson, gadd all did this..so if you "drummers"out there think i'm wrong, i dare you to rebuttal !

  • what i'm about to post goes out to every single drummer out there who thinks neil's over rated or isn't anything special..and i will continue to post this until my laptop keys disintegrate..Neil Peart is fine drummer ,musician song writer, and human being..all you so called drummers out there wouldn't know this because the only thing you have on your minds is who 's the best solo drummer...he's one the most popular, respected, beloved, and influential drummers of the last 3 decades..

  • The MAN has rhythm!

  • his best solo is from their first live album. he is boring now

  • @crimn I agree!

  • i don't care what anyone says..neil peart is a master drummer, percussionist, showman, musician , lyricist, innovator , and all around great human being !! he took the drab, boring drum solo and made into something fun to watch and listen to !! long live the king of drums !! neil peart !

  • Is this moron video taping his TV? Great...what an idiot. Thats what we need.....more poor quality...! Good Job!

  • Ron Paul's son, (yup another surgeon/senator) quotes Neils lyrics alot. He thinks Neil is rad.

  • My favorite drummers is me. I rule.

  • No, I rule.

  • No its me dude. I know me better than you.

  • I know me better than everybody in the universe. Clearly I rule.

  • @dwilmer7

    lol?

  • This solo sucks ass, boring as hell. All I hear is xylophones and electronic drums and all kinds of weird shit. There's no real drums in there. Its ridiculous.

  • It's called percussion, ass hole. Drums and xylophones are in the same family, taking very similar skills. No, it's not your traditional drum solo, but still a solo none the less. For the record, Neil Pert is one of the best drummers of all time, and i consider you a musical blasphemer to utter such words. Please never voice your opinion again, it matters less than Pat Robertson's.

  • I love Neil Peart but damn he is getting old, lol!!! He's still got it tho! Rush rocks!

  • What hand do i hold my dick with when i piss?

  • your moms

  • You know I really don't have a beef withNeil.Compared to all the shit metal drummers I'm arguing withand that puffed up mega overated Portnoy Peart is a blessing.

  • Well spoken

  • rrdrums sounds like a mega toss bag and could do us all a favor by drowning.

  • in your moms ass

  • My Mum doesn't own a Donkey fuckstick.

Its 'Mum' not 'Mom', and it is Árse', not Áss'.

Americans should be shot for how they have ruined the Énglish' language.

  • Not really Monnett. kickass has violated AA code and whetehr he admits to being anunclean member of AA or not he surely can't deny the civil violation of recovering sober code. Ypou just don't say hey so and so is a drunk. Look how he emphasises my name over and over but won't reveal anything about himself. Very uncool. I don't believe he's credible drummer whatsoever at this point either. I do believe he's wannabe body builder homosexual.

  • Hey RR- are just fucking around with Kickass? I suspect that you are. Steve Gadd is a great drummer i think BTW a little boring yes but who cares

  • I'm w/Dr steve. The guy has been hammering the same solofor how long now? It just keeps getting less passionate ans a whole lot slower.

  • solo or not, peart is still the best drummer of our time, yes we have portnoy and other prog drummers, and there way many more good drummers in other genres but i do believe that peart deserves his respect when playing this solor, i mean it is HIS solo so...well he is going to play it.

  • I love Neil but he seriously needs to get another ostinato. The waltz is getting a bit long in the tooth. And I can't say I like the electronic sounds he's chosen for this part of his solo.

  • Hey everyone, rrdrums (Jeff Jones) is more talented than first thought. He knows more about myself than I do! That's a pretty awesome talent wouldn't you say? Hey Jeff, which hand do I hold my dick with when I piss? Go do something productive you 57 year old nobody. Go become obsessed with somebody else. You are a strange dude. Go get some help!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Yes you are. You toldme you were many months ago. Now all of a sudden because you violated the principle you denounce . Like that's going to clean up your mess!!! What would your sponsor say about the way you act in here? What step are you working? You act like you're drunk BTW. A beligerent drunken fool.

  • Watever, Its another one of your dillusional moments. Jeff Jones aka (rrdrums), why don't you do something constructive with your time? There is a lot more to life than being a dolt on youtube. Perhaps you need to get a job?

  • dont insult me or some shit, but you did actually say that.

  • I'm not in AA you dimwit!!!

  • i just love the negative comments that rrdrums110 receive:p

  • What a lame solo...retire already

  • Tell me why the Buddy Rich Memorial didn't have him back and you'll get the talent level of MR Peart. He is only good for Rush and cannot play effective big band. get it?

  • Neil re-inventing the "Drum Solo"

  • this video isn't really a good display of what neil peart can do or what kind of musician he is. i think he's simplified the drumming here to make it more accessible for all the non-music people in the crowd. i do agree with keepntyme that there are a lot of drummers who could probably play neil peart under the table, but he's survived playing his music for so long now and influenced so many people. and he deserves respect for that.

  • I completely disagree. I think this particular drum solo even displays more of his diversity. Neil is a constant student who who will learn and master new drumming styles well into his 80s. Ive seen rush 11 times dating back to 1982 and every drum solo is brilliant in its own way. This drum solo is more simplified yes but it doesnt take away from the mastery of it still.....Joey jordison and travis barker suck by the way. They have no creativity in their drumming.

  • @Drush23 well in fact you know nothing.... can any of these drummers get in a plane crash survive then play one handed 2 days later...

  • Comment removed

  • @asdfjklasdfjklish hell yeah

  • @Drush23 Ditto.

  • @Drush23 11 times? rookie.....

  • I saw this in concert twice. It was absolutely AMAZING to watch. love pearts style.

  • Wisdom would council us to learn from each source (drummer) existing in order to be able to enjoy a diversity and improve our own playing thereby, Which is to say, learn from everyone instead of trying to define your own self according to so and so drummer

  • This is the best drum solo ever, when i went to see them i didnt move for lik the 8 mins he was playing... i some guy nearly pissed himself next to me but he didnt want to leavev

  • Its all about how you play and not necessarily what you play. Although it is pretty amazing to keep this kind of timing, the audiences attention, and the diversity going this well! There are probably more drummers playing because of Peart then anyone out there. Or maybe Ringo, and he is no Buddy Rich but a lot of people like him. Thousands of amazing drummers, Would be terrible if we only had 5 of the most technical guys out there.

  • I just prefer drummers to strike drums and cymbals not sucky ass wood blocks and marimbas? That's lionel hampton's gig. As far as the 17 year old idiot that thinks carl palmer plays like a 6 year old. How many time did carl palmer top drummer annual polls like a dozen consecutive you complete dumbass.

  • haha, if Neil peart sucked, why was he asked to play at buddy rich memorial? I bet you are some 18 yrs old kid that lives in your mommy's basement, just picked up drums recently, and know only a handful of professional drummers.

you also lack musicality and believe that doing blastbeats on drums and cymbals is the coolest thing ever

  • There just isn't any substance coming out of this overated toad. No chops no imagination lousy sounds and marimbas? Go watch Buddy Rich or Billy cobham or carl palmer blow this buffoons doors off and quit bugging me about how good he is. He Suuuuuuuuuuuucks

  • u r a faggot

  • rrdrums your a fucking retard jus because he isnt playing fast doesnt mean he isnt talented number two he has talent then you do in one fucking finger number 3 you clearly dont know the difference between a drummer with 50 years of experience vs a 6 year old randomly beating on the drums.

  • duuuuuude chillaaxx and enjoooy!!

  • whats wrong with wood blocks and marimbas? Neil is extremely talented, and you think he has no speed? You really are out of your mind...and you are extremely close-minded. If you appreciated music you really wouldn't be putting down one of the greatest drummers to ever live.

  • Best Drummer in the World.

  • are you fucking kidding me?! Peart may be the dummers that a lot of beginners turn to, but he is by all means fucking amazing. He is the professional.

  • amazing video - thanks for posting

  • This guy is great, he knows his roots, and drumming roots in general . He may be old, but I think hes actually gotten better since his younger days. Especially if you compare him and rush to other bands. Some of those older guys are just.. pieces of shit today. Ever heard any of Axel Rose's new stuff? Its like rock with the soul sucked right out of it

  • what u mean axel roses's new stuff? Guns n Roses wasnt Axel... it was guns n roses... now its axel and random guys under the name of guns n roses sucking da balls tryin to earn some money playin bullcrap mainstream music

  • yes he is geting better cuz he is always taking lessons for something new, I heard hes taking a more sped up type of jazz similar to Buddy Rich who I think his is idol but im not shure

    RUSH ROCKS!

  • self interest? if you play drums, this is YOUR GOD! you stupid ass....if you can't learn from this guy, then i guess u get one hit wonders all your life. man....people are so biased when it comes to perfection....i guess that's why we have brittney spears and rap winning grammys....even though they take from "other people".....i want to kill every negative statement poster in here. that's just sad. he's old yeah, but guess what?...play your rockband2 against HIM......no contest, jelous fucks!

  • OWNED!!!!! if u can't se it....you're blind...nostrodamas couldn't even predict this bad ass....

  • The quality was so bad xD

The xylophone's sound made me laugh.

  • whats with that fuckin loud asshole in the audience that keeps saying "NEIL PEART" not even cheernig him on just saying his name, someone should punch that fuckin douche in his mouth and piss on him when hes on the groud crying

  • Hey kids, listen to some Buddy Rich. That was Neils influence. Then check out Neils web site. The professor by far. RUSH, the most under rated band in the galaxy of cygnus X 1. Check out there solo projects, Very impressive

  • You got to luv that Mallet cat part It never gets old

  • i love how you call them mini sets. compared to other sets theyre pretty big. yes i know about his ginormous orgasmic set

  • anyone who says neil pert sucks ... your so absurdly jelous and pathetic over the internet.

  • waaahhh! all the jazz snubs jealous of neil and the attention he gets..? I could give to snowball in hell whether neil could play "yawn" jazz...Im a drum expert..neil sucks man and joey "fill in the blank" knows how to groove...who gives afu---k..majority of fans rather watch neil hit a tom once then some pompous jazzwipe...drum on neil!!!!

  • looks like someones jealous

  • Wait, I'm confused..."neil sucks man"? Isn't "2112" in your name? Did I misunderstand you? As a fellow Rushian, I hope so!!

  • u misunderstood! I love Rush and neil..just tired of the jazz snubs making comments how some no name jazz drummer is so much better..nobody gives a shit about them, Secondly neil himself does not claim to be the best. I know one thing for sure. Hes drumming during the songs IMO is where he really shines.. Id like to see the "experts "

play secret touch like neil.. I dont they could.. tired of the jealousy and pissing matches on u-tube

  • I understand what you're saying about arguments and insults on Youtube, and I agree. I think everyone should take a logic class in school. Maybe then we'd have less bickering and name-calling, and more intelligent conversation and debate!

  • I haven't watched or commented on very many RUSH videos on Youtube (I already have many of their albums), so I'll just take your word for it about the "jazz snubs." People need to broaden their horizons a little bit, I think. As for Neil, he may not claim to be the best, or even one of the best, due to his respectful modesty, but his fans know he's up there :)

  • Well Said, I've Been Listening To Rush For About 3 Years Now And I've Been Playing Drums For About 8 Years. And I Can Honestly Say That I've Learned More In Those 3 Years Than I Have In The Other 6. Rush Is A Great Live Band, And Niel Is One Of The Best In My Mind. And I Think The Best Players Are The Ones Who Don't Think They're That Good.

  • I Just Realized, That Dosen't Add Up. W/e You Get My Point

  • huh?

  • carter beauford is the best... check out his solos. period

  • Keith Moon "was" not better than Neil.

  • im one of keiths and neils biggest fan tbh u cant compare the both

    keith was neils influence

  • Listen to the albums, moving pictures , signals, 2112,and many more by rush, and you all will hear the real talent of neil peart (canada`s drummer) best in the world

  • Neil Peart is awesome.

  • the sound on this video sucks, watch this same solo with better sound it is awesome

  • you could have uploaded a better part of the solo besides the slow part...

  • everyone who says anyone is better than niel because they they are rly fast...is and rtard look and he could go faster than them probably to..look at the yyz video! hes fricken awsome!

And id rather listen to his music then some evil emo screamo music

  • How many speed metal drummer are there? Many.

    There is only Neil Peart.

  • dude, are you serious?

  • Crazy freak is way better!

  • wow... i can't believe you said that.

travis barker is a talentless piece of crap that only knows how to hit drums real hard. my little brother is four years old, I'm teaching him drums and he is already better than travis.

  • i'm sorry to say. but your 4 year old brother clearly isn't better then travis. he is a great drummer, has a amazing talent and knows what he's doing. you clearly aren't as good or nearly as good as him either by the sounds of it. you never will be, i know niel is a better drummer. but travis is still pretty damn amazing.

  • Damn...i mean i would understand jason bonham or Portnoy...but Travis?!!...you have to be fucking kidding man!!

  • while travis is a good drummer, he is no neil peart sorry dude

  • Yeah i agree with you. Travis barker is a great drummer. he has lots of skill (and i like him overall more then niel) but clearly niel Peart is a better drummer. his set also helps him out alot to. i think if travis used a set like niel he would get way better (not as good as niel though)

  • un maestro !!!!

  • Peart admits the greatest drummer known to him is Buddy Rich. Thats why he paid tribute to him.

  • Whenever Peart does his solos, I whip out my copy of "Atlas Shrugged" and contemplate rational self interest and the moral superiority of capitalism. Then, when I leave the show, I pee on a homeless person, because, you know, they like, deserve it or something. Woooo! Rock and roll! Peart, you rule man! Waaaahooooo! And Milton Freedman! You rule too! AAAAAAAAAAWOOOOOOOOO!

  • WHOOPS, I meant Milton FRIEDMAN!

You go Milton Friedman! Rock and ROLL!!!!

  • makes no sense

  • what doesn't

  • "comtemplating self interest "or capatalism by every mean has nothing to do with peart. he jst wanted to sound smart by using words he thought ppl wouldnt understand.

  • Whatever dude. He's up there. You're not.

  • dumbasses

  • I agree, i don't get Peart he seems like he's up his own arse and the rythmns he creates are just random. More for show than sound.

Gavin harrison, Bobbj Jarzombek, JoJo Meyer, Dave Weckle are all superior imo.

  • Lot of the rhythms he uses are ethnic, from different African tribes and mixed with western style drumming. Oh, and he has some of the most organized drum solo's on the planet, not just random speed or tom work, so up your arse, or however the hell you say it.

  • Dude, go watch Neil Peart's Anatomy of a drum solo, it'll make you see how much of a weenie you're making yourself look like.

  • Peart is great at what he does! It just doesn't do it for me :P.

  • Shaaa right

  • I would never think that any drummer "smokes Peart". It's like saying heart surgeons make better orthopedic surgeons. .they're all masters at what they do.

  • I listed jazz musicians, who DO smoke Peart...Peart IS a master at what he does BEST...Which is ROCK...not jazz...He is mediocre at best in the world of jazz...The best jazz drummers in the world always make the best rock drummers in the world look silly when it comes to skills...FACT

  • ...gothcha. Which is probaby why he plays rock because that's where his roots lie. However, many drummers will venture out and play other types of music. Like Michael Jordan playing baseball! That was interesting.

  • valid point...And I am not slamming Peart. I do respect the man for trying anything that he does. I guess that if this wasn't Neil Peart, it wouldn't be worth viewing...And Michael Jordan in baseball WAS interesting indeed! LOL

  • now...how do you measure skill ? as the ability to play something complex and insane chops? or the creativity and imagination to do something different and inspire later creations? wich i believe Peart did in his own time... creating something new.

  • Csnake...Your age is showing (23?). Clearly you have that juvenile "tunnel-vision" regarding rock versus jazz. It's fine that you don't like jazz, but you are obviously clueless on skills and abilities. I assure you that drummers like Dave Weckl, Dennis Chambers, Billy Cobham, Vinnie Calaiuta, the late greatest of all time, Buddy Rich, and countless other jazz greats absolutely SMOKE Peart...Even Neil admits to that! Open your eyes child!

  • lol just because im 23 doesnt mean i dont know jazz... ive listened to jazz for more than half my life along with rock and i can tell you NO(ABSOLUTLEY NONE) drummer that is in a jazz group (aka shit) can compete with a rock drummer

  • Well, you have gotten to that point child....The Stupid Zone...Do you realize that Neil Peart himself acknowledges he he not even close to Buddy Rich's league? Also, the drummers I mentioned before are only 5 of the greatest drummers that ever lived...TO put it simply (just for you CHILD), I can do a whole lot of Neil Peart on my drums...When I watch the greatest jazz drummers, I can only shake my head in awe of their clearly superior skills....Go learn something would ya? You're boring me!

  • holy ignorance, Batman! Send in the Pube-grow-ray!

  • neil is the man

  • question then: why are you here in the first place?

  • SteelyDug, if your sooo "Good" why don't you use your self proclaimed talent and make the same money as Peart? we have NEVER heard of you play...just your word on it. Just admit Peart is good and there may be other just as good.

  • PunchnJudy. If I want any shit from you, I'll pinch your head.

  • nice, its just about the type of response i expected from you...truth hurts doesnt it SteelyDug

  • I have stated the truth...Truth is Peart is over the hill, and has become very repetitious. There are many drummers out there better than him. Just because you want to sleep with him, and have tunnel-vision doesn't change the facts. Deal with it

  • you said that all before in another post...re-read what i said then get a grip

  • If you can't handle facts, that's your problem. You are clearly lacking in musical knowledge, particularly regarding drums. You are just another mindless Peart fan that is incapable of recognizing all the superior talent that is out there. Just a waste of text on a monitor. I am done with you child. Does Mommy know you are on her computer?

  • Once again you have said all that too, nice vocabulary range old man. Ok where is all this superior talent, not to many like him in the main stream. Paice? Ya you & your butt buddy already mentioned that too, but where in the hell has he been since the 21st. century?

  • Hey muttville! Mommy let you back on the computer again? or are you sneaking behind her back? As I have said many times, Peart is one of the greatest ROCK drummers ever, but his act has gotten boring. The BEST drummers in the world are the high end jazz drummers, like Weckl, Chambers, Cobham, Calaiuta, etc. Rock drummers can't touch that in skills

  • agreed, these guys are legends, however who's to say who's best & so forth. + i would consider vinnie a rock drummer 1st & for most.

  • I love how steelydug is talking bout rock is boring when he loves jazz music

  • bws4life21. If you wish to participate, at least pay attention! I have never once said that Rock is boring...I have been a rock drummer most of my life. I HAVE, on the other hand, said that Peart is getting boring, and THAT is a fact...

  • How many solos have you played in front of 20,000 people?

  • hmmmmm..I can probably track that....I'll get back to ya!

  • you know steely your lack of musical knowledge makes you seem quite childish...neil is without a doubt in the top 10 rock drummers of all time. He is a true musician...and his solo's represent the history of drumming...you dolt.

  • 96maggot...If you pay attention, I have said that Peart is one of the greatest ROCK drummers of all time....But he simply (and self-admittedly) cannot keep up with the jazz greats, and now he is even getting repetitious in ROCK...Age will do that sometimes

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • why u trolling around bashing on peart? fucking pervert go watch your granny vids old man!

  • Peart is a granny vid LOL

  • were all old but neil still kicks ass! now what? thats what i thought.

  • Now what? Neil should think about retirement...That's what...He does the same old thing every time, and there are countless drummers out there better than him...Get over it

  • There is always someone better in everything in life & if you knew anything about drumming (which you obviously don't) this whole solo is brand new for this tour as well being adlibbed in the first portion every night. & as far as retirement is concerned why when your making great money, have legions of fans & genuinely enjoy what you do for a living. Your favorite vids. says it all about your personality; ignorant bitter old pervert who doesn't enjoy his own life so bash others who do.

  • if you'll notice most of the comments around here, Peart's act is growing old and tiresome. Just because you have tunnel-vision and apparently would love to sleep with Neil, doesn't hide the fact that he's not what he used to be..And by the way, I've been a drummer for many years and can easily do what Peart does

  • Oh please spare me your insight.Everyone here has there own opinion so be it, but they are no doubt the minority.& who doesn't age or may not be as sharp as they once were in their youth at least he's out there doing it. Also from what I've read about you if anyone wants to sleep with him it would be you homosexual + if you have any chops at all they are no where neil's level, unsight or sound I guarantee it!

  • yawnnnnnnnnnn

I am done with you child....you are a waste of text. I'll bet you're a riot at work, flipping those burgers, so go tell Mommy it's nappy time and get off of her computer...I'm done toying with you child

  • Checkmate you perverted faggot! You & humbucker01 enjoy your vids, you got issues mate!

  • Good solo, but nothing we haven't heard from Neil before.(excluding the different sounds he triggers) He's been playing the same song on the marimba for twenty one years, (Momo's Dance Party) and the same conga part from Scars for at least ten. He mixes it up a little here and there, but not like he used to. The "pieces of eight" part of the solo, I found rather boring.(here come the "can you play it?" comments)Yes I can. Anyway- I can't wait to see Rush in July, when they play at SPAC. Rock On!

  • most drummers dont stand out there not like guitar players who separate into different classes they all can do the same stuff except a few like Neil

  • power systematic drum.

  • I was there! This was the first (and only) time RUSH played The Hollywood Bowl. By the time Neil did this solo I had about 1/2 of my bottle of Cabernet ingested! Ya gotta love The Bowl!

  • I agree with gatorfan...have mad respect for the man but his solo's have really gone downhill since the 80's. I would give anything to see the Signal's era Peart throw down.

  • Neil Peart is my all-time favorite (rock) drummer. He has inspired me even before I knew how to play drums, BUT I have to say (with regret) that I'm getting tired of his solos. It pains me to say it, but there are many other drummers out there that I would rather hear do a solo. Don't get me wrong, I still respect the man for his talent and creativity in his music, but everything since his benchmark performance in YYZ has been a bit disappointing----to me.

  • Neil Pearts solos are very intense. Very awesome! It's like that he's his own drummer. He can play the Xylophone and cow bells to his drumming which gives an amazing effect. I like how he combines different percussion instruments to give a unique "Peart" sound to all of his solos.
