This is simply a very beautiful and rare video. I wonder if Zakirji has seen it in so many years. Sadly Alla Rakha is no longer however his soul and prodegy survives in Zakir but the tradition of tabla continues.
I love his statement, My life is tabla. I love the tabla and it has loved me. God bless all those who share this language of music and continue to bring people of all backgrounds together.
amazing! a great glimpse of history of tabla. ther is no doubt that many have preceded these guys that we'll never know of. again amazing! what else is there to say really............
@smarjoramaananda I think of that often when I play tabla...I am playing the same bols as many of the greats of the past....I feel like we are connected in some kind of way which brings a smile to my face ;)
Wow, all the comments here say the same thing. Thank You for posting this. It is true, that Punjab Ghrana is different from the 6 others, as it is the Pakhawaj Bols, and alot of the Tabla knowledge traveled thruout India to all the Ghranas' thru marriages. Again, Thank You
@shishyupal Hey, actually 5:10 is another student practicing. A photo of Zakirji is shown at 6:40 all grown up. Alla Rakhaji is praising him there and telling us that he has gone to America. :)
