  • you are great (in arabic عظيم) , where did you learn how to play like this??

  • Bloody fantastic ! Way better than Lang Lang's version(which was a travesty). This is exceptional !

  • Truly beautiful. Such piano work - simply exquisite!

  • Thank you for your reply! Most excited about the Gershwin. I JUST SAW a French pianist on PBS last night with the NY Philharmonic. Be encouraged!

  • This brought back memories I have not had in over 40 years. I closed my eyes and just imagined myself playing this song when I was 17 years old. Thank you. Have you ever played Liszt's transcription of Paganini's La Campanella? I sure would love to see/listen to your interpretation of it. I myself never finished it. Should kick myself, especially when I stopped playing at age 25 after 20 years at the keyboard. I have an antique in my living room. You've inspired me to start once again.TY :-))

  • @autohckr

Thanks for your kind words. It's never too late to start again...After all, music in general can be therapeutic and inspirational.

I recently performed the solo version of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue (solo +orchestral parts) on our Restoration Chamber Music Series in Galveston, and will try to put it on YouTube when I have a chance.

  • @sandnturtles08

Thanks for your compliments! Depending on your pianistic level, I think you should try out those pieces first to see if they're too difficult or too easy and then adjust accordingly....Tom and Jerry is what brought me to learn this piece!

  • Beautiful great pianist.

Check out Liszt Rhapsody 14...Liberace did such a wonderful job.

  • @rrryyy666

    Thanks for your kind words!

  • Thumbs up if you are here because of Tom & Jerry. I know i am! xD

  • @CherylSoldier15

    Sure I am!

  • @CherylSoldier15

LOL ya , thank for TOM & Jerry whom make us know such great piece of music

  • Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I could play as beautiful as you.

  • @martinbeco

Thanks! With consistent practicing and hard work, you can be just as good as me.....

  • @EvelynChenPiano I do agree that hard work and practice are incredibly useful, but some people seem to be naturally, incredibly gifted, it does appear you are one of those lucky people!

  • @JimmyWhiffler Good point, there are gifted persons out there; but I would say that won't stop someone who has passion and perseverance.

  • I would also like to add that i believe the only other time i enjoyed such a performance was during one of my favourite episodes of Tom and Jerry!!

...by anyone's standards Tom is pretty damn talented, especially for a cat.

  • @goldenballs82

    I couldn't agree more....

  • Absolutely bloody brilliant.

Flawless, in my opinion. You play it so much better than so many others ive seen. Its not rushed and every key is played carefully and accurately which delivers each note, crisp and sharp. I hate pianists who feel the need to play fast and add a bit of improv. THIS is how it should be played - as it was written. Note for note, key for key. Thats real talent. Perfect, well done. Its actually a moving performence and i imagine Heir Liszt would indeed be proud.

  • @goldenballs82

Wow, I'm really deeply touched by your kind words and keen observations! Thank you so very much!!

  • Wow! I'd love to tackle this one but I don't think I'm quite ready yet. VERY well done!

  • @gretschplaya

Thanks! You should try it anytime you feel like it. It's quite fun once you get the hang of it.

  • Goddamn.......

  • was gunna learn this one....i think ima start with something a little easier....like splitting atoms. Gotta start somewhere right....?

  • @McGhostluvin

It's actually quite fun once you start to get the hang of it. Just try it!

  • @EvelynChenPiano How long do you start learning this song?

im a graded and im trying to learn it

  • I've now watched you play this at least 5 times on here... I love it... you play this amazingly! Franz Liszt would be proud.

  • @uftmissinjax420

You're so kind! Thanks for the compliments and encouragement!

  • Amazing!

  • @masterdebo1

    Thank you!

  • nicely played

  • @2hyeok

    Thanks!

  • Bravvoo bravoo, beautifull!!!

  • @Voryvzakoneff

Thank you so much! I really appreciate your kind words.

  • BRAVO! Wonderfully played.

  • @AndDanielaSays

Thank you so much! Really appreciate you taking the time to comment!

  • tom and jerry

  • @PrizrenVEVO

    Yes, indeed!

  • Absolutely amazing performance!!! I play more ragtime than anything else but recently I have been going on to some Brahms and Liszt. I have a feeling I am going to have a go at this piece after I finish up Hungarian Dance no. 5. i have a feeling my hands will probably fall off after 4 minutes or so though.

  • @videogamerxx

Thanks a lot for your kind words! Don't worry, you'll have a lot of fun learning and playing it! It will require some patience and persistence, but you can get there with determination and a lot of practicing.

  • Brilliant!

  • @acousticguitarfan

    Thanks for your compliment!

  • reminds me Tomm and Jerry :P

  • @ramishvili777

Upon the urging of my husband, I learned this piece precisely for that reason!

  • how long does it take to learn that piece? if it takes longer than a few days, can i steal your skillz???

  • @Stunt36

It depends on your pianistic level and determination. It can take a few days or a few years. It takes a short time to learn the notes, but to really get it polished, it can take some time. It's all up to you!

  • If you can play this, you can play the piano!

  • @bearlincs

Thanks for the compliment! I certainly try to do my best whenever possible...

  • You are delightful!!!!!

  • @tevintwhite

    Thanks!

  • 5:45 & 6:57 my best two parts ^^

  • @042400100

    Mucho gracias!

  • My hands are too small to be able to play the right hand part well...... :(

  • @ooxxooxx21

Actually, my hands are quite small. I can barely reach a 9th interval. So don't give up, keep trying!

  • If may I ask.. What is your next masterepiece?

  • @xFantasYx8

Currently, I have 3 other pieces on YouTube under EvelynChenPiano, and will probably put more on after my concerts in the next few weeks. Thanks for the interest, and stay tuned...

  • @imranpatelindahouse

    Thanks for the compliments!

  • Wonderful! :) 1000 Star

  • @bylyfresh

Thank you for the uplifting comment! Much appreciated.

  • it's so tiring ... Lang Lang's is the best

  • @anukibaku2

I wasn't tired at all when I was playing it. In fact, I had so much fun that I could do another whole recital afterwards!!!

  • for years a josef bulva interpretation has been my favorite, but now after listening to you perform, this is now my favorite. you make more performances pale in comparison to the fire in your soul. ive studied this piece for years. im speechless.

  • @jewbar2point0

Wow, I'm really touched by your compliments! Thank you SO MUCH!!! You're too kind.

  • Wonderful! If you don't mind me asking, what fingering do you use at 4:57 and 5:02 in the right hand? Any tips for learning this piece? Thanks!

  • I thought it was lovely. The perfect thing to listen to after watching a doco on the building of a Steinway. Thank you.

  • @HelsinkiArchitect

Thanks for your lovely note. Much appreciated!

  • 7:45 a little mistake but very very good.. perfect.. :) nice

  • @xFantasYx8

Making mistakes is what live performances are all about! Even machines make mistakes (let alone human). Thanks for your nice note regardless.

  • Brilliant!!

  • @thinBillyBoy

Thanks for your compliment! Much appreciated!

  • this is one of my favorite pieces and I absolutely love your interpretation of it. You show the power that I feel this piece is supposed to have and also at the end of the piece you absolutely nail the fun and upbeat side of it. I have to say this is one of the best performances I've heard of it.

  • @shaolin312 also i just want to add...I wish you would've fermata'd the ending just a little bit longer...it felt like the ending needed a little more anticipation before the final ending chords, just my opinion...either way very well played and i enjoyed it entirely\

  • @shaolin312

Thanks a million! I very much appreciate your praise and detailed observation. You obviously know the piece well.

  • awesome. from hungary

  • @husee86

    Thanks! from the U.S..

  • I think I just fall in love with this song and the player also :), I play guitar classical , I think I want to learn piona after listen this by now,

but I never heard this will played so rapidly , constant tempo, almost perfect. you calm style give it nice

not like other popular pianis play with uproar tempo. You tempo give match with all aspect emotion.

so praud to see you after you finish all..and get back again

    2 thumps up.owesome from me.

    Andy

  • @kornkers

Wow, that is quite a compliment. Thank you very much! I'd encourage you to try learning this piece, which is fun and difficult at the same time.

  • awesome...but I've never heard anyone refer to HR 2 as "peaceful" :) It sure isn't peaceful to play! ha ha at least not from the Friska on anyway. btw you're pretty amazing :)

  • @dcstudio

Thanks so much for your compliment! The so called "peaceful" section after the opening introduction is, to me, more of a fanciful story reminiscing a bitter sweet past with a touch of sadness. The rest of the piece is technically fun and challenging but satisfying.

  • @EvelynChenPiano technically "fun" --oh you performance majors!!-- I was music ed (piano conc.) and Jazz studies -- technical and fun don't fit together as nicely for me :) I play Jazz for a living now and secretly come here to worship the sound of those who can do what I couldn't, so I mean it when I say--you are pretty amazing :)

  • awesome...but I've never heard anyone refer to HR 2 as "peaceful" :) It sure isn't peaceful to play! ha ha at least not from the Friska on anyway.

  • 2:23 Eh, what's up, doc? Who? Franz Liszt? Never heard of him. Wrong number.

  • @jasobres

This Bugs Bunny cartoon is the reason I started learning this awesome piece! It's really so much fun to play it!

  • fantastique!

  • @ryanlovesyelle

    Merci beaucoup!

  • i play in the art gallery in my hospital after my treatments the sound in the room reminds me of this..very peaceful. I play by ear for 20 years now nicely played. lovely form and peaceful.

  • @Phulesmith

It's nice to know that my playing can give people serenity and a sense of calm and peace. Thank you, and best wishes to you!

  • @EvelynChenPiano 4:49 is the best part

  • @EvelynChenPiano 4:49 is the best part-5:25

  • @Phulesmith

Thanks for watching and for your compliments!

  • I did what all other non musical people do and googled for "the hardest piano song in the world" and there you are, playing it perfectly. Great job! You certainly have a bright future ahead of you!

  • @DaXia333

Thank you so much! You're very kind!

  • my goodness, this is BEAUTIFUL. I am awe struck by your amazing talent...

I'd love to be able to play this someday...so do you take at Rice? or teach there?

  • @littleminky93

Thank you so much! No, I'm not a student or a teacher at Rice. I was invited to give a solo recital by the school. I actually teach piano to graduate students at Teachers College at Columbia University in New York City, though I'm now living in Houston with my family.

  • I wish U can be my piano teacher :)

  • @societyrain

Thanks for your comment. I do love teaching as well as performing. If you live in Houston or New York City, maybe I can hear you play.

  • Most excellent performane, I especially like how well balanced and evenly the repetition is at 5 minutes!

  • @niceguy2685

Thanks a lot for your compliments! I really appreciate it!

  • Beautifully played, thank you :-)

  • @Eponae

    Thank you so much!

  • Great Job!

  • @TheDablasian

    Thank you so much!

  • @EvelynChenPiano Is that you playing the piano? How long did it take you to learn this song?

  • @MrAndrewle

Indeed, that's me playing the piano. It took be about 1 week to learn this piece and memorize it. However, to truly internalize it and perform it at top level, it would take years as every time you come back to the piece, you will undoubtedly have new insights and understandings.

  • Belle interprétation, bonne technique, bien joué quoi !

  • @pianolife06

Merci beaucoup! Thank you very much for your kind words. I greatly appreciate your compliments!
