  • This game is soooooo broke,,, dont buy it for multiplayer

  • 1:08 what map is that O.o? with the colapsing bridge

  • 1:08 lol that looks like Starcraft's Reapers

  • @patool1000 Repears aren't the only thing to have "jump packs".

  • @patool1000 you ARE aware that most of SC1/2 is copied from Warhammer Universe.. Marines? (Aka SPACE Marines) - Zerg? (Aka Tyranids) - Protos? ( Aka Eldars) - Dont mean to be rude or anything.. Just proving a point.. Dont belive me? Look when Warhammer came out and Starcraft came out

  • why relate it to halo asshole, its nothing like it!

  • guys, im looking at a large package on steam for a bunch of thq games like saint row 2, metro 2033, and all the recent dawn of war/warhammer games. Is it definitely worth the money? i havent hear to much about them. Quick Reply please

  • I thought that they would have said "Tyranids" in game, though, is this actually your review or did you just get one written by someone who played the game like with Xplay

  • thumbs up if your only here because of its free to play on steam temporarily

  • @bloodsucka17 I bought the entire package. DoW2 and both expansions.

  • I agree with oliver dixon111

  • I hear people say this is more true to the tabletop days. Is the campaign a ride-the-rails style or does it have replay value? I want to get the full series pack on Steam, but I don't know if I want to buy that if it's one play and done. The original DoW and Co. of H. was awesome and I'd play the hell out of even the campaigns. Loved the skirmishes.

  • well, our names make me feel awkward "=.=

  • Its not orcs its ORKS WAAAGH !!!

  • looks good

  • the older ones are so much better like battle march

  • the older ones are so much better like battle march

  • This sounds exactly like a typical football commentator.

  • i think removing base building was a great idea now i can focus on my squads and combat strategies not having to constantly worry about your base, fits well into a warhammer 40k game imo

  • is anyone else pissed off at only being able to play at space marines or is it just me?

  • ok then....where to begin...

you can only play as space marines.... how fun ( ! ), no base building.....such a good idea.....( ! ) this game is one of the worst dawn of wars ive played, which is a great shame as i loved the game series, im not sure about everyone else but this is a massive let down for me im afraid....

  • @smidgetftw Same here.

  • "El-dar"- not "eldars"

  • i have a question, im trying to download the game itself not retribution. so when i go to put in the product code there is one small box that cant even fit in the whole code! and im not sure, but i think i might have downloaded it on my older pc so idk if that means i cant download it again. i dont have a steam btw. some1 plz help me.

  • And STEAM IS AWESOME BTW YOU NOOB GINGERNINJA

  • @gingerninja217 you are such a fucking fool this game is great and better than blizzards failed sc2 (ive played it). And also what is the point of building bases? They are too trouble some and just impede your enjoyment of the game.

  • im sure this game would be great if I could play it. All this steam and games for windows live crap had really put me off, I never intend to go online, why do I need all this for single player? also no base building? that sucks

  • One thing that should've been mentioned is how cheap the maps in the campaign are, with a very few exceptions almost all of the maps there are reused atleast 3-4 times.

  • Comment removed

  • I really didnt like this game. Sigh

  • Teer-a-nids not Ty-ran-Ids and it deserves mo re of an 9 than 8

  • the windows live mutiplayer aint working for me ! im so angry now

  • everyone calls DoW 2 non strtegic when really its just missing one thing they like about it.its like playing CoD where you can customize your starting weapon, then going to halo and say "THIS ISNT A FPS I CANT PICK MY GUN." It simply doesnt work that way, if you dont like the new system, thats unfortunate, just dont write crap about how its not a strategy game anymore

  • tyranids, not tyrAnids :P

  • so im looking at the comments i just see a bunch of people calling each other noobs. MustNotRead saying casual gamers are gay. But he has a point ive been playing this game and I look at back at DoW1 or starcraft and I kinda miss base building. Note casual gamers dont waste the day trying to lvl up and use that 1 skill point on whatever skill. We do something. (this is a random comment IDK why Im bored)

  • 2:08

Made me lol hardly. Please have been a joke, though.

  • i thought building bases was the best bit of the dawn of war series

  • First couple seconds of the review treats the "removal of hardcore elements" like it's a good thing. NOPE.jpg

Sure, this particular game and setting work well with the real time tactics formula, but it there's no reason to applaud the dumbing down of the RTS genre as a whole.

  • It's "Ti-ra-nids" not "tie-ran-ner".

  • @Oliverdixon111 i thought it was 'tear-an-ids'

  • +1 WeenieManX,

    Because bases aren't more necessary.

  • You pronounce 'tyranids' wrong and it's not 'eldars' it's 'eldar',

  • @xXD4rKwO7fXxGaming Many people pronounce things wrong, it's natural

  • @xXD4rKwO7fXxGaming you have a point...

  • why are they ruining all these good games by removing the whole reason we played it in the first place. this isnt strategy anymore there is no element of strategy in that they shouldnt even be allowed to call it strategy

  • I don't mind not having to build bases, Warhammer 40k is all about sending squads of badasses to fight to the death against other squads of badasses.

    Fun game.

  • No base-building...WTF

  • whats the best computer u can get for about 600 pounds to play this game?

  • Warhammer just has a stupid premise and style... It might be fun as hell, but I won't know because I won't try it. It's almost like they're trying to be campy but it just comes off as cheap. I hope Relic releases another Company of Heroes, that was actually really cool.

  • when they say RTS. do they mean just another build and fight, like red alert and age of empires? i want a dawn of war game where you can use real battle tactics, not just the bigger army wins tactic. plz suggest a DOW series for me. cheers

  • @markash1971

well if you want to get into the multiplyer, go for retribution

  • @markash1971 It is a build and battle RTS, but the size of the army doesn't matter as much as C&C because it adds tactical variables, like cover, Surpresive fire, etc. When snipers fire at an enemy their rate of fire and movement speed dramatically decrease. It is very unique.

  • Why do humans use bulletguns in year 40.000. ?

  • @DaBoomz13 The bolter is just the standard issue, they have nano petroleum particle cannons for cammander units, and plamsa guns. But some things have to be said with a chunk of metal travelling at crazy velocity.

  • @DaBoomz13 The bigger question, which remains in most scifi is... why do alien xenos speak english?

  • @Polydynamix

    cause evryone has translators?

  • @Kamfrenchie Something tells me that translating to english is one of the last things that, let's say the necrons, are really interested in. But I realize that physics and logic have to go out the window with sci fi. I mean star wars would be pretty boring if it were realistic- since there's no sound in space, the dangerous lasers are outside the visible spectrum, and even warp speed can't explain star travel, since when they returned home it would be thousands of years later.

  • @Polydynamix

well necrons rarely speak with humans, mayb you talk about dark crusade. Well that can be seen as a way to make th ennemy afraid and make them lose confidence. Sounds could be made by the computer onboard the ships. I'm pretty sure you could make visible dangerous laser if you have eough energy, but again, some equipment could help people see those laser.

    Or "rule of cool"

  • @Kamfrenchie Hey, I'm not trying to rain on a parade here, I love DoW 1 & 2. And I love the depressing universe that the story takes place in. But one thing that they never address when dealing with laser weapons is that they have 1 ultimate "kryptonite"... if the enemy ship is a mirror like surface- well the laser would be directed away.

  • @Polydynamix

The kinetic impact + the heat would still do quite some damage i think

  • Halo wars was a horrifyingly ugly game

  • i just bought this game, looked amazing i already have steam no problem. but what made me mad was the fact that the game lags alot with all the graphic options set on low. i know my laptop is rubbish but i think i may need a new video card. any suggestions?

  • @lukewind13 im sorry to tell you but you cant put in a new video card in a laptop, only on a PC.

  • @mentality111 i read up that you actually can, but! it is extremelly hard to replace.

  • Just bought this but the product key wont work look like im gonna have to buy another

  • @CameronFN

<you're going to get a refund for the product that doesnt work i hope?

  • @Kamfrenchie No i cant, but i just got it working (Misspelled) Got myself Chaos rising too, but i dont really want that anyone want to buy it for £10?

  • fail.

the first one was bad ass

  • "Orcs, Elvis and tyranids."

  • Looks interesting... Does it have a story behind the campaign? I mean do I have to play Dawn of War I to enjoy the campaign or it's a stand-alone game?

  • @d00m92 - They make a few allusions to events that take place in Dawn of War and its expansions, but it's mostly fluff.

Besides, the story has never really been all that important. Most of the fluff is written to rationalize gameplay elements, to emphasize that there isn't really a 'good side', or to just provide fan service. The literature available is still very well written, but it's not the star of the show.

  • The plural of Eldar is Eldar!

  • The thing about co op, that the host gets all the XP, well that doesnt matter does it?

I mean, this is a really fun, and very addictive game, and I rather have fun getting no XP at all than playing without any fun just for XP

  • wraithlord failing by using the wrong shoulder weapon twice in a row :)

  • the game is very good if you use the space marine is unstoppable

    victory point

    it's just trash

is given to weather and Survive

    VICTORYPOINT IS REMOVED

    improve for the game

    lost many fans

to include this crap VICTORY POIN IS FOR NOOB RUNERS

  • C&C 4 and DOW2 got rid of base building. In other words, those have the biggest balls in rts

  • I wish they mixxed both DOW 1 and 2 by making the campain as it is in DOW2 though still have SOME base building

  • How do you pan the camera? Lol. :D

  • jeez, so much hate. I'd say that it takes some getting used to, and it isn't for everyone, but it is a fantastic introduction to the RTS genre for newer players, while the strong emphasis on tactics keeps things fresh and different for vets. If you want to play starcraft, here's an idea, go play starcraft. Cheers to Relic for constantly trying new things.

  • How do you get full screen view like on 1:36-1:46? without mini map and all that.

  • I'm not going to discuss the value of DoW2 per se, but I'll say that the review was pretty lame. The narrator delves into the genre alignment of the game, praises it being "an RTS, but not quite" and ultimately fails to say anything constructive. What can I tell... If you do not like "hardcore" (meaning "straight") RTS, don't bother playing it. The decision to sack some of RTS core elements is in no way courageous or even innovative. It's just a design feature. Get over it.

  • @constenebricus It's not a "strategic" game, though, it's a purely tactical one. An RTT, if you will.

But still, the fan-base liked RTS games. They should have named it something else, not tried to write it off as a "sequel." Halo Wars wasn't Halo 4, or people'd have been pissed as shit. Admittedly, it was easier for 40k 2 to hide being different for long enough to get most of the RTS fans to buy it.

That's where the hate comes from, people were fooled into buying a totally different game.

  • @qoinbga That could be the case to some extent, but, you see, the genre of DOW2 is rarely a sole reason for complaints. The majority of DoW2 dislikers I've talked to blame the game for the lack of challenge and overall being 'stupider' than DOW Soulstorm. While in SS you had to micro the hell out of your troops and develop your base simultaneously in DoW2 you can make with a few mouseclicks. Some view this as a sign of degradation.

  • i liked the 1st one WAY better. totally disliked this one.

  • @FallschirmjagerX the 1st one was good yeah, but unbalanced as hell.

  • This game is excellent! Love to play it!!! :D I recommend it to everyone!

  • WTF Is this classic Dawn Of War you could build buildings but removing that? no thanks I'm going to keep playing Dawn Of War.

  • @TheSandvich1 If you think about it, this one is more like the actual table-top game, Warhammer 40k

  • @Tendrop711 do u love dow II

  • that tyranid 0:43 looks like it can pwn a ultralisk.

  • @ironmantis24 lol the carnifex will pwn all the ultralisk you want.

  • i fucking hate the new style of RTS its ruining all the amazing series of RTS games

  • @camo126 try Supreme Commander 1 & 2

  • @IxRI0TxxxMAK3RxI lol try total annihiation

  • @thepaulypaul1 .......I have...

  • All of that being said, this game can still be enjoyed for what it is, and if things are going to change, they're going to change.

  • i believe in general what the PC RTS guys are trying to say is, if you want to dumb down the console versions of your games, have at it. but please leave our PC versions alone. we enjoy building those bases and chosing our units. it's what makes any RTS unique from game to game. dumbed down versions really aren't so much an RTS as they are just walking you through a story using RTS style combat as the vehicle in which the player rides more so then anything else. just my two cents...

  • @HoodaThunket

wel i'm a pc gamer but I enjoy RTS with both base building an those wwithout it.

Look at the total war games, the battles don't bring any base building.

PLus base building doesn't automaticaly make the game more strategic.

  • 8 of 10!!! THS IS HERESY!!!

  • What I don't like about Warhammer console and PC video games they change some stuff which isn't in the real game (tabletop one) just to make it more "realistic". I play with Necrons (in the real game, not Dark Crusade) and all necron warriors move 15" just like any other basic troop in the game. However, in the videogame, they are ridiculously slow.

Don't get me wrong, I love that WH 40000 is more popular now due to this videogames, but they should remember this is originally a tabletop game

  • @wanttoseeaghost ya but they have to have a disadvantage cus theyr 2 powerfull for a core troop. im more of a warhammer tabletop man 2 bu i prefer da swords and sheild 1 wid da elves an dwarves. wen r they guna bring dwarves into 40k?

  • gay british retard

  • @TheCrispism hey ok hes gay an a retard bu dont rope him in wid da rest of us brits

  • @therealdooty allright sorry but fuck this gameweasel

  • @TheCrispism hahaha better:)

  • @TomFulp It's actually Tryabitofcommonsense.

  • NOOOO the tirands are coming :P its tyranids

  • Tactical RTS's are nothing new (myth series)

Its funny how this review states that the game uses windows live like its a "feature" What REALLY sucks about this game is that you have to be signed into both live and steam just to play!!!! I had to wait hours for all the updates just to play this game. Then yesterday it seemed like the game froze and I couldn't select campaign mode, and I had to go back and sign into live and reexcept the new "terms" just to play. Thank God i only paid 7$

  • Hey Guys

It is Said in a Comment under a Youtube Video, i think it was warhammer 40k retribution Trailer for the Eldar, the Channel was THQinsider, an Official Channel, that base Building will partialy Return in DoW 2 : Retribution.

  • AHHHH HE SAID TYRANIDS WRONG!!!! YOU MORON!!!!

  • this game is hard but its awesome

  • Why is everyone getting worked up about a game....?

  • @ICETHEMUSIC Youtube idiocy?

  • The conclusion is that you should not be whining for the lost of buildings or not in an RTS game. It boils down to whatever works in a specific game. For those who say that the point of building is to upgrade to the toughtest unit is only partially correct, for in SC 2 there is a high dependence on lower tier units.

  • On the one hand, making buildings in RTS games adds the problems of having to defend them, which means more fun (frustration and stress = fun in RTS). Also, it kinda gives a pace to the game (i.e. Starcraft 2, Civilization). On the other hand, focusing on the army instead of buildings can make for an awesome RTS experience. Such is the case of the Total War franchise (Multiplayer), which requires skill in setting up formation, abusing the terrain, and preventing loss of morale.

  • i dont mind their not being any base building since in the table top their is no base building, so this game plays more like the table top without having to roll dice. i do enjoy soulstorm more just because the amount of units you get, and the massive scale of war, it feels more epic then dawn of war 2

  • Hopefully this will be on the THQ sale on steam this week

  • @AndysTech

    Your wish came true.

  • do you really have to have STEAM to play the game? I don't feel like installing steam... I want to play the game tho.

  • The first one was alot better the second one blows

  • @feddog2500 The second was more true to the lore of warhammer. It depends on opinion. for me the second is more hardcore , has higher graphics and more stripped of spamming.I would never go back to DoW 1 ever though

  • WTF is he talking about? Not very hardcore? This game is hardcore as shit! You hafto take over hell alot and use right units for right situation!(beside Tyranids^^) And theres so much shit going on it's hard to know what to do. So this game aint some pussy ass shit where you just click and point.

  • TY-RAN-IDS! ITS TYRANIDS ITS ONE WORD!

  • ....so only like 20 guys n mebe a tank then....exciting. ...fine get rid of bases and equip army before battle fun...but when are we going to see big warhammer battles? Can you recruit big armies or just a squad?

  • What does rank mean in this game? is it better to have more rank in this game in the multiplayer?

  • base building sucks, i mean this is the future of RTS what relic has done with COH and both DOW 1 and DOW 2 is a great step out of those old boring missions when you just had to build up to the top of the tech tree, spam the toughest unit and achieve the objectives, even the first DOW campaign i found it kinda boring from the half to the end, also the massive mobile parking lots of tanks and monstrous units (command and conquer) makes things yet more unrealistic and boring, this is the top RTS.

  • @nilsb234 I find a significant diffrnce betwn the 2,Besides the time it takes place in, and all of the obvious stuff)

    - In company of heroes they make it a necessity to use cover in order to successfully win, but in DOW2, it just seems to blend in, and it seems less important than COH

    - In CoH, units have abilities, which pull them through all of the tight bits they get into, in DOW2, most units only have upgrades, or very very specialized skills, that don't become very useful

    ilikeboth tho

  • @Pryysmite

first cover is very important in dow 2

second the skills you gain by equip stuff or getten special squadleaders become only youseful if u know how you can use and combine tzhem to get the maximum effect of em.

  • no buildings? what a disgrace to RTS, remove the most important feature: control.

  • 8/10?

This guy can't rate for shit.

  • is dawn of war 2 dawn of war 40000

  • idk what to get dawn of war 1 or 2!?!?!?!? 1 has more troops numbers for bigger fights but less graphic power.

  • @blyons1555 dow 1 = better multiplayer, dow 2 = better campaign, better graphics, better music and better voiceacting (for example eldar in dow 1 sound horribly gay while in dow 2 they sound ok). so if you wanna play multiplayer get dow 1 and if you wanna play campaign get dow 2 I guess.

  • Only the host gets experience points? Oo Now that was a strange design decision..

  • whoa soon retribution's comin out in february-march in 2011...and after that in 2012-2013 comes dow3!!!

  • wow that piece of shit C&C 4 is a total rip-off of this game. it sounds as if it plays almost completely the same

  • It would have been nice if he pointed out the flaws of the game.

WHile this game is extremely fun, the MP suffers from a serious lack of maps: There are only five of them, and they allow up to six players on each, the maps being altered slightly in size to compensate for the additional players.

  • I saw the first look of how dow 2 should have have been released, and it was awesome, but then they made this version where I can't blow up a bridge like in this review...:(

  • Although this questio might seen stupid because I dont know much about computers, what would be a graphics card that will work smoothly on med or high and is under $200? Please answer. thanks

  • Can anyone tell me if there are major changes compared to the first 'Dawn of War'? From what I've heared here gameplay sounds a little bit like the 'inside building' missions in Blizzard games. Just want to clarify.

  • @Xerosch erhm no base buildin hey get steam download the demo its great its fu nand its long for a demo

  • i was thinking of playing this but as soon as i heard him say they took out base building completely i changed my mind

  • Fastest. Review. Ever.

  • 'Thai' 'Ranids' lol

  • dumb shit. you're SUPPOSED to build your army from a base. if you dont like bases, don't fucking play RTS - you noob mutherfucking reviewer. its "casual gamers" like you who make dev companies dumb-down games because you moan about anything that requires time and patience. I HATE YOU NOOB GAMERS. "waawaa, I have the attentiona span of a flea...can you please remove base building so me and my lame 6 year old daughter can enjoy RTS games too!?!?!" Fuck off and go play some FPS shit! I HATE YOU!

  • @MustNotRead

Someone needs to straighten their panties out... they got all twisted somehow...

  • Comment removed

  • @MustNotRead

so true, im so gutted they took base building out!

nothing beats building up a massive army then going head to head with the enemy in a huge battle.

this just looks like the 40K in 40 Mins version of first DOW

  • @NZtricolor Check out the Mod "Firestorm over Kronus" for dark crusade!! It's everything I've hoped for in DOW II. It even has graphics that are just as good! ^-^

  • @weewoo1010

thank you so much for introducing me to it! it looks AWESOME! should have made it a game in itself.

more like the codex armies.. sounds good to me!!

would like to see a chaos traitor guard army with mutants

or a space wolves 13th company army in DoW too

    would be pretty awesome!

  • @NZtricolor

Aww just reminded me of my Space Wolves army gathering dust. Must....... get away...... from..... computer

  • @NZtricolor

agreed. basebuilding is awesome but most of the great RTSs now seem to be following the trend...for the sake of console nubs. shame. just played Emipire: Total War for the first time though and it has great base building...MASSIVE armies, etc. so hardcore RTS fans still have one or two real RTSs out there i guess.

  • @MustNotRead Who are you even talking to?

Anyways, I partly agree. In some games, I prefer base building. It lets you be more strategic in what you're going to do

But no base building was a great idea for this game. The space marines featured don't land, build a base, then accomplish their objectives. They are dropped in, they kick ass, and they go. No need for a base when your a bad ass.

  • @Sasherra

i was flaming the noob reviewer :) even though i do not agree with you, at least you do appreciate the value of base-building. personally, i preferred the base building DoW.

  • @MustNotRead

    U angry?

  • @MustNotRead wow what a douche bag

  • @yoyepo91

what is said is one of the higest rated comments on this video. seems YOU are the douche bag because you have no idea what i was ranting and flaming the review for. go play your FPS shooters - dumbo.

  • @MustNotRead yea I do. btw I haven't called someone a dumbo since I was like 5. Anyways they didn't remove bases to make it more noob accessible they did it to change up the gameplay and to b innovative, if u don't like the end result don't play it cuz there's plenty of ppl who do. and just because other rts games in the past have had bases doesn't mean it's SUPPOSED to b that way. Innovation in video gaming = money, and hey dumbo I'm obviously here cuz I play rts games too

  • @yoyepo91

Wrong, RTS' *ARE* supposed to include base-building. Base building is a fundamental aspect of the genre. It's idiots like you making unfounded comments like: "Bases are not necessary" (when you have NO idea what you're talking about) that creates a false common consensus among IDIOTIC noobs. I've played just about EVERY rts known to man, I know what the RTS genre is. It's not an overhead shoot-em-up frag fest for noob console retards like yourself. End of discussion! NOOB.

  • @MustNotRead *read my other comment first* tons of ppl have been building bases on rts games (myself included, warcraft 2 ftw) for years, which gives u this feeling ur playing the same damn thing. statements like *are supposed to b bases* r like statements like in mmorpgs there r supposed to b set quests (guild wars 2 is changing that and most ppl like the new system) fps r supposed to b about killing other ppl (halo's aliens made it unique) u can continue this with every great game out there

  • @MustNotRead I find your rage amusing. Your use of the word "noob" makes me certain you're the kind of gamer that sits around typing "LOL NOOB???" in whatever chat-function you can find in games. You have every right to call people "noobs", I'll call you a raging self-righteous moron.

  • @WeenieManX hahahahahaha man i love u :D:D:D funi stuff

  • @WeenieManX

You have to admit he's right though. There's a reason most games today are oversimplified to the point of sucking.

  • @Sumwun22 Yup. It's more about being "accessible" than innovative - taking out all the difficult parts so you don't even have to think to play. Most RTS don't annoy me for being "too complicated", they annoy me for rewarding reflexes and speed. Should be called RTR for Real Time Reflex.

  • @LJFHutch

well what DoW2 replace base building with more intensive use of cover and abilities, but yes it kind of rewards you for having good reflex, though the apm dion't matter nearly as much as in SC2.

I found RUSE to be really good btw, really strategic andnot relying that much on reflex.

  • @MustNotRead btw casual gamers = ppl with lives. go outside

  • @yoyepo91

we'll, "people with busy lives" traditionally dont have the time necessary to play a REAL RTS. You yourself clearly are some kind of social party animal, with a huge social life. Which to me says that you dont have the time to invest in RTS games, which in turn is the reason you want to dilute and simplify the RTS genre and turn it into a casual frag-fest. See, you've proved my point, thanks for that! I *DO* have the time to play REAL RTS, you dont so FUCK OFF and go play ur FPS..

  • @MustNotRead u just don't get it do u? No game is supposed to include something. Whenever you hear about an amazing great game it's always intuitive and different from the rest. an example is my favorite game Gears of war, which is NOT A FIRST PERSON SHOOTER it's third person, incredibly violent, and allows u to take cover by hugging walls, etc., which makes it different from games like halo. companies r always looking to reinvent genres like that, which is exactly what this was about

  • @MustNotRead agreed

  • @MustNotRead i like how you said this and you have like im gonna guess 10 comments on here

  • @MustNotRead jesus, everyone likes different things. He said he doesn't like it,he didn't say it's stupid or smth,so you have no right to curse him

  • @auqifx stfu.
