  • Jag tror att det är USA som har gjort detta. De vill att nationer köper bara F-16 och F-35. För att det är inte bara fysisk flygvapen som de säljer utan mjukvaran är en nyckel som de behåller rätten till. Jag misstänker att de lägger dolda sidor också i mjukvaran.

  • Den dagen minns jag. Satt på berget ovan Södermälarstrand och såg att planet vinglade tlll och så plötsligt sköt piloten ut sig. Antog att Västerbron fick ta nedslaget.. Ett under att ingen blev allvarligt skadad. Några år innan fick en plan tillstånd att flyga under Västerbron. Eftter detta var det slut med liknade tillställningar över Riddarfjärden.

  • @hitmannor1983 I hope you're joking right now, the Spitfire is both slower, less armored, less weaponry. The JAS 39 Gripen is among the most agile aircraft in the world and could quite easily shoot down an F-18.

  • @devrerffs Gissa om han ringde upp och skällde ut den ansvariga för flygningen :) Det är ju svårt för lilla sverige att sälja något när man konkurrerar mot USA. De har lite mer att säga till om politiskt, och det brukar avgöra vilket plan som köps. Se bara på Polen som valde F-16 framför våran fina Gripen.

  • Verkligen en bra vinkel. Här ser man klart och tydlig att det inte rör sig om en misslyckad pugachev kobra utan styrsystemet som kollapsar. Man ser innan kraschen hur instabil hon blir och piloten försöker få kontroll men misslyckas och planet försöker får baken framåt, understyrt som det är

  • At exactly 00.37.40 a laser beam from an attacking ufo pierces the thust engine, passing through the pilotes stiff anus, causing a perestaltic cesure. That´s what caused this unfortunate mishap...

  • Pilot induced oscillation i believe was the cause, very common problem if you aren't careful with fly by wire control systems.

    Also if you look on current Gripen's they have tiny-tiny wings behind but higher then the stabilizer on each side to give better control at certain attack angles.

  • The aircraft had a big software flaw. Think of if like windows vista and so the aircraft failed to filter his reactions and so did overdo the manouver. And Stalled you can see the engine not getting any air so it pumped it self to death.

  • no it was not the pilot it was a problem with the software in the airplane in how it reacts in low speeds with high angle of attack so they had to solve that problem after this crash

  • it seems that the software was not configured to forbid the aircraft from getting into this deadly configuration. These aircraft are aerodynamically unstable and rely on their software. The F-16 went through lots of problems too. The su-27 family is the most stable due to its design and still handles well if flown in the old fashion way.

De "vapen" som räknas in bland vapenexporten kan vara allt från radar, system och små delar, till bilar, minskyddade fordon, metalldetektorer och material. Att Sverige har en såpass stor export är intressant med tanke på vår saknade politiska styrkning. Tittar man på var Svenska "vapen" säljs är det framförallt inom Skandinavien, Europa och en mindre mängd utöver det. Framförallt är det defensiva "vapen-vapen" som säljs bortom Europa.

  • The real crooks are the politicians and officials that let the military and the Gripen consortium fly this semi-production Gripen over 100k people (more or less). Totally insane. Though it became a neat little plane in the end. :)

  • The pilot and control system came in oscillation, essentially a pilot error due to lack of experience, But sw was late redesigned to make the sitution less prone to happen again. It was a trauma to stand there and see the pride of the nation go down. At first it looked lik it had gone down in the midst of streets but luckily in a unpopulated park area. A fully working aircraft went down due to the pilot losing control at this low altitude.

  • yes he was trained to fly the old aircrafts like the viggen. these didnt had any sw that interpreted hes moves. maybe they should had send some warcraft kid to fly instead that could use the joystick and sw better..

    By the way the Gripen is half owned by BAE because you couldn't work out the flight systems for the aircraft.

  • when it were a big fighterpilot exercise in the U.S. last gear swedish pilot were there with 7 JAS 39 Gripen, they won every contest and battle. And it were aircrafts and contries from all over the world there.

    how the hell can you say that the Jas 39 gripen is bad.

    this film is from the 90s, the Gripen is much better now and one of the most greatest plan in the world

  • If you look at the statistics, Gripen is actually involved in less accidents than most other comparable aircrafts.

  • @SWEmanque The steering is not mechanical but electrical, and when you steer with the stick it becomes an order, that is sent to the computersystem of the plane. The pilot was known for flying very "aggressively" issuing a lot of commands, this lead to that the system couldn't handle all the orders, and so they were queued and ultimately the plane was unsteerable.

  • I think it was cause the pilot had no control of the aircraft as there was a severe malfunction of the flight control system. I know that a lot of pilots stay with the aircraft until the last moment to avoid civilian casualties but I think in this instance there was really nothing he could to do avoid this. And since he had no control of the aircraft, he ejected to avoid being trapped in the aircraft as it came down. Well that's what I believe anyway.

  • I will admit it is nice to see this accident from different angles. I don't mean that in a bad way, but you are now able to see different angles of how it lost control and came down. I will admit it is funny when the crowd cheered thinking it was doing a "cobra!" maneuver.

  • It was during development, pilot could partly be blamed but the control system wasn't fully ready at that point.

  • Except that wasn't a controlled cobra maneuver, it was an accidental uncontrollable superstall.

  • thanks for the note Melancholy,but if positively was not a pilot mistake this accident was an even worst fact for Gripen because that flight was not an "extreme flight envelope check" ,but an exhibition with a production aircraft . I guess Saab engineers have wisely resolved "teething problems" of Gripen. :)

  • It wasn't the pilot's fault. The crash was caused by an comupter error, that gave him no control of the airplane and no other option but to eject. The pilot, Lars Rådeström should not be hold response for the crash.

  • Depends on how you look at it. This was, just like in 1989, a pilot-induced oscillation.

    Rådeström pushed the control stick to it's near limits very fast, which left the control system saturated. It couldn't move the control surfaces fast enough to comply. By the time they caught up, we was already pulling the stick in the other direction.

    So in effect, had the computer flown alone, it would have made it. Had the pilot had manual controls, he would have made it. But the two together...

  • the "steering" was after a few seconds... when they begin whit the "fiber" steering every plane had that problem.

  • It was a PIO... pilot induced oscialltion. The pilot pulled the stick too fast and hard for the control system to keep up.

  • I read elsewhere that it was a failure of the fly by wire system. That system should automatically negate PIO and make it impossible unless switched off.

    If all aspects of the system fail, the plane will do just what you saw here; fall out of the sky.
