I agree with you that Callas was one of the greatest female Singers of all times, but did you ever listen to Anne Sofie von Otter singin La Habanera ?
i go to speak in english because this is a language of world, i love this song, this vocal. she is wonderful, i like this song since little, fault of my mother *-*
I agree with you completely. Maria was an excellent Carmen. She sings Habanera with such style. And to say that she turned to mezzo roles just because she couldn't sing anything else anymore is nothing else than mere nonsense! She always had a strong, developed and rich lower register, especially at the very beginning of her carrier! (This is meant for IlGruppoDiDocci, but I wanted to say that I agree with you.)
@corellithebest I agree totally with you, she had such an amazing low register and huge chest voice, she was often told so and also she said it herself...and yes, her voice started this decay cycle (probably because of the extremely rough use she did of her voice) but I also agree with you in this aspect, she was still able to sing them
@corellithebest I know she recorded Carmen, but did she ever play it? Anyway, right you are, her lower-register is just luscious! Some sopranos have to struggle with the low notes (my second favorite after Callas is a good example: Edda Moser); some like Marilyn Horne with impeccable lower-register, tires out with the highs, Callas is just exquisite in every repertoire she handles!
awesome awesome awesome

All you have to do is put this on, sit down, and get ready, and Maria takes your hand on a trip to heaven.
