The series of books by Graham Masterton are much better...most of his horror novels are great. Family Portrait and that one where the demons live in the walls and a bunch of people hunt them down in their dreams...3 books..great..
i have yet to watch your transfer, but I saw this in the late 70's broadcast on the TV (maybe it was just the commercial) and my aunt was there and for many years she used to point to the top window in the barn and mention the "MANITOU" woooohhhh in a scary voice. It used to scare us kids. Thanks for posting the whole movie, can't wait to see the whole thing. Peace
this movie is so bad that it is great.... considering the stars and the budget, it ranks as one of the worst movies of all time.... horrendously marvelous
Thanks for posting this old school horror joshfantoo! I haven't seen this movie since I was a kid; it was terrifying to me back then but funny now I'm old!! ;-D
Masterton wrote some great pulp demon/supernatural horror in the 70's and 80's. Yes, the story is silly in some ways but his writing style is so matter-of-fact in delivery that you actually feel as though you are there. This is not a bad film if you are prepared to leave your modern day standards at the door and just enjoy it for what it is. Yes, the ending is a bit spacey but then it did come out the year after "Star Wars". Deffo worth an ultra-real gritty remake.. but please, no handycam.
I was very little when they showed this on TV in South America. I recall not being able to sleep that night. And a few days later, while we were playing in the other room, my friend's nanny said with creepy voice:"el manitooou". My friend and I took off screaming and ran out of the room. Haha! good ol' times!
I just finished a book by Masterton called "Manitou Blood" which is about a vampire plague that envelops Manhattan. The plot was a bit silly but it was REALLY exciting and Masterton's an excellent writer. When I read the character descriptions for "Harry Erskine", Tony Curtis popped into my head and I didn't even know anything about this movie, until after I was finished with the book, LOL! Good casting, lol.
Saw this movie at the old Warner Theater, with my best friend as a young boy in my hometown of Lynchburg, Va. We laughed our ass off at the midget monster. Do you have the movie Prophecy, about the mutant bear ? I think Talia Shire starred in it.
I went to the drive in with my older cuzzin, to see a double featyre, it was fantasm, and the manitou, I was scared as hell, to top it off my cuzzin had me smoke a fat ass joint. i will never forget it that nite.
C.B.S. Friday Late Movie heaven! 11 years old glass of coke, left over pizza, and Kolchak: The Night Stalker and then a horror movie, was there anything better? lol great post
Lalo shifrin really lets when he lets loose. Nice track and I didn't realize this had a good heft of comedy in it. :D superb! THe audio is a bit freaky though, sounds at times like we are listening to the Stenographers remix. ;) somehow your processing made the gods of youtube mad.
I don't know where Masterton got his subject material for the story, but I can assure you that this subject matter is NOT taken lightly by Native American principle. The lizard-beast, is in fact, quite real within some cultures. It must have human flesh before it can return from where it came. Has something to do with trees. It's all hocum, but quite frankly, well...truth IS really stranger than fiction!
Great upload!! Can't thank you enough.

Best part is the apparent "two-syllable" limiter they ran the audio track through.
