Stereolab is going to be one of those band they're going to bring up 20 years from now... they're there hasnt been many other "bands" over the past 20 years that could ever leave a legacy of consistence great tunes, and gave birth to bands and reached and had fans of any race on this planet...
Even though the camera never really shows Sonic Boom I instantly knew it was him. The guy exerts such a unique presence, even when he is just in the background.
i love their music, as the one of every indie band from the 90s, the french chick really makes this group shine, i love it, it reminds me of mickey 3d
Yep, looks like indie's hairy beach boy propping up a rhodes there. He did all the string arrangements of course (as I'm sure you're aware if you can spot him from a glimpse of his barnet) ;-)
caterpillarmilk (i guess) refers to the live mixing guy. i´ve been to hundrets of live gigs and there is always a guy on a mixing table, mixing the band like an equalizer on your mp3 player ;)
It's a cardigan, but that's ok. If I keep pointing this out I would be beating a dead heros81, huh? The drums and vocals are too loud on this. Remix pls?
Yeah, and plenty of them have been with a shitty sound guy. This isn't about their performance. Don't defend the band for a shitty mix they have no control over.
Mary's death made me sadder than I ever could have expected. It made me realize that her vocal fills were the thing I fell most in love with during my deep affair with this band.
ok ok so we have the women correctly identified. Now that's Mr strings himself on keyboards, sean o'hagan but is that sonic boom over the back fiddling with electronics - looks a little like him...
AmmonRa801, I know my fruit discards from my Low Countries, in other words, I know my Peels from my Hollands - I thank John Peel for having given Stereolab their big break in the late 80s/early 90s. Mary is the blonde bob - check the offical website, matey. Tim is pink-haired cross-dresser playing the cello - doh !!
Fair enough. No disrespect, an easy enough misunderstanding to make: you meant John Peel in the overall sense. Still, I absolutely know that without a doubt I am right about that being Mary in the green dress and red hair. She would always sing or play guitar in the front with Laetitia and Tim. The woman on keyboards with the white blond hair on stage right/house left is Morgan Lhote, who replaced Katharine Gifford right before the recording of Emperor Tomato Ketchup.
Watch the videos for Ping Pong or Wow and Flutter and you'll notice blond bob girl not there. Then watch anything from Emperor like Noise of Carpet or Cybele's and there she is, Morgan Lhote. But who's there the whole time? Mary Hansen. Thin, reedy, reddish hair. Better yet just type in her name on Google or Yahoo and click on IMAGES... Mary Hansen, Mary Hansen, Mary fucking Hansen.
Look, this is just superb. It's another reason to thank John Peel...I have had the deepest of crushes on each of the Stereolab girls....poor Mary (blonde bob on keyboards) who died horribly amid London's chaos a few years ago.....
I hate to tell you this, but you're wrong and wrong again: that's Jools Holland, not John Peel. And Mary's the one standing next to Tim and Laetitia, playing guitar... red hair, blue dress... singing... in the well-known dual vocal style. The blond on keyboards is Morgane Lhote.
Saw this on joolz - went out next day & bought the whole stereolab catalogue!
