Without a particular interest in railways, I watched this documentary and was struck by the great photography and decent (although, as someone has pointed out, slightly biased) interviewing. I wish we saw more of this sort of thing on TV. Fair play to everyone involved.
At the end of the day it's not the fault of drivers, signal men, platform attendants, conductors or workmen in general. The fault always leeds back to management trying to save money by taking more of the people's money lining the share holders pockets but putting less into the actually running of the trains. Yes suicides happen signal failure happen why haven't they got plans in place to over come that well in advance I mean honestly think ahead. Well done to the British public for putting up
The problems in the signalboxes are occuring to this day.out TDs have been out for 4 weeks now, pull your finger out Network Rail, World Class eh??????
Brilliant documentary I thought - it was heavily biased against the railway (120 delays due to a suicide - yeah that was the railway's fault) but I also think it put across the issues that the railway had to put up with (and maybe still does now).
I think the subsidy quote from the driver was absolutely spot on. And the idiot attacking the camera crew pointed out everything that is wrong about railway passengers - abusive, impatient and unbending. I know you pay your money, but for god's sake.
Great video collection! Thanks mate.

Unfortunatly laughing stock TOCs such as NXEA is another sad sign of "Privatised Britain", running a service only fit for the shareholder's wallet!

That bloke at 6:41... if I was the camera op I'd want to smack him.
It drives me nuts when people get bitchy then react in that way.
"i think it's a bad idea so I'm going to break your equipment and call you names"
I'd bloody chase him down the station threatening to sledge him with the camera.

I arrived at Charing Cross recently. There are now ticket gates installed.
So how do staff close off platforms in the evening crush? Can they "lock shut" the barriers?
Have the barriers caused crowding problems?
wdielwlairajmd 2 years ago
Yes. They can be locked shut, also there still are platform gates.

It seems the powers in goverment wanted NSE to fail, the final nail in BRs coffin.
Good vid

Yeah but it was split up and sold cheaply but the goverment can find billions to give to banks but not something of national pride
