  • Anybody else notice that during the band introductions in the beginning, the host says, "Jay Luckton on mouth organ."? Huey Lewis has used other names in the past such as Huey Harp. He's such a character!

  • I only became aware of this song because of the superb version done by The Dirtbombs. Can't recommend it highly enough!

  • THE KING !

  • Check Out My Rare Vinyl Mispress of Solo In Soho Plus Its Also A Promo Issue, Thanks for the vid.

  • Dam what a talanted guy Phil was.. * He tough Jimi Hendrix was even more talanted* well, I think they are both talanted, but I like Phil more.

Dam he should have made more lives of this one :) -Thumbs up for a rare and cool rocking vid-

Rip them both *Ahead of their time*

  • It made me smile when I clicked on this video The great Phil lynott and the great old grey whisle test. Brilliant post!

  • We call this 'Bringin' the house down' ! Finest Old Grey Whistle Test performance?- no doubt..

  • rip

  • great rock and roll!!

  • great phil but did u know his son has a group chec them out they called secrets revealed 1 movement type dem out long liv d king

  • Phil Lynott never had a son...he had two daughters.

  • @AndrewSmith1979 It was proven through DNA testting a couple of years ago that Phil did in fact father a son who grew up in Egypt.

The guy didn't want anything but only to recognized as Phil's son.

    \m/ \m/

  • yo that tape is warped

  • you should see the video of 'i wanna new drug' with phil on bass.

  • Here's the connection: Huey Lewis had been a member of the band Clover, who played support for Thin Lizzy on a tour.

  • is the tape warped?

  • Yes that is huey lewis on the harmonica

  • I'll never forget driving on a road trip almost 20 years ago, rocking out to Live & Dangerous, and hearing Phil Lynott tell the crowd, "And on harmonica, Huey Lewis!" I almost drove off the road. We probably rewound the tape 5 times, thinking we had mis-heard him. To this day I can't hear that part of the album without cracking up.

  • check out the dirtbombs version of this song!

  • PoireauMan68 I agree that scummy white men + corrupt black leaders have been a deadly union for Africa. I do not deny that Mugabe has not helped his people in the way that many had hoped. However, I was responding to "why" he was taking the land. So many people are quick to rip Mugabe or any other non-white leader to shreds when they stand up for themselves. Yet, they ignore the white man's treachery and the role he has planned in much of the strife in places like Africa.

  • Do you actually know they history of Zimbabwe? It used to be Rhodesia and was under white minority rule. Britain and America DID NOT support it then, not when it declared independence whilst still under white minority rule, they DID NOT support the Rhodies, south africa did for a while, but in the end they betrayed them.

Britain fully supported Mugabe for a long time.

  • Did you know less than 10% of farming land in zimbabwe is owned by white guys? If 10% of farm land was owned by black guys in the UK the government would be celebrating it.

  • Do they accelerate mid-song? or is it my pacemaker??

  • Good video. This is my favourite Phil Lynott solo song.

  • seems like the timing jumps on the tune....especially right after huey "J Lawton" Lewis' solo

  • last bass note is amazing

  • Who did she say was on mouth organ? She certaily doesn't call him Huey Lewis.

  • Destroy Mugabe, RIP Phil.

  • OMG

  • Is that Huey Lewis on the moothie??

  • What happened to Huey Lewis? Once he was cool enough to kick it with the one and only Phil Lynott, then he goes on to make the crappiest 80's pop with his own band?

  • HAHA @ Mouth Organ. I guess it's not called a harmonica across the pond.

  • LOL at "awful quality". What the hell do you people want?? Rare videos are great...regardless of quality.

  • do you know what kind of bass hr uses here?

  • I've found that he usually used Fender P-Bass's, I know he used a lot of different basses, but the P-Bass seem to be his #1's.

is what I have found for you FREE OF CHARGE on the internet...but this'ere instrument don't look like a FENDER...can anyone not visually impaired read the make on bass guitar head? EKO ? looks like a warwick...?? could be a harmony...

  • @blacksabfan yes, this quality is actually ART

  • "Awful quality"? Post sumfin better yerself from tv 1979-80!!

  • Forgive my mistake on Robert Mugabe's name. All of Africa was a much better place before the white man came and raped it of its natural resources - people included!

  • i used to think that too...but you have to come clean and realize scummy white men + highly corruptable black leaders (not everybody can think like Lumumba and sing like Fela Kuti)...give us what we have today. ...truth is I was laughing when whity got slained but it has turned into an absolute nightmare. Is you tube for music fans only or has this turned into NEWS NIGHT?

  • Yeah, that's a shame for such a cool performance.

  • Old grey whistle test was great. I suppose the closest thing today would be Jools Holland, but since talent and real songs dont make the headlines anymore, so does most of his guests.

  • Mmmm... Phil Lynott.

My favorite band, the Dirtbombs, cover this spectacularly. Especially live.

  • Did she? You should for posting this.

  • A)Is it just me or does the presenter (annie nightingale) get the harmonica player's name wrong?

B)If only Lynott could see how Robert Mugabe (namechecked at the end of this song) has trashed Zimbabwe.

  • bellaalma :Roger Mugabe has trashed Zimbabwe...

    ---

Zimbabwe became independent of whites in 1980.Perhaps you missed that.

Mugabe (of which you must be one) took land from farmers just because they were white.

Zimbabwe's agriculture industry used to feed all of africa. Now it is nothing.

And inflation is off the scale and 1/2 the country is starving.

The only people being "oppressed and subjugated" are those who don't obey robert mugabe.

    And who's "Roger"? His brother?

  • hey its huey finally i have got to seen the legend!!!!

  • Yes Indeed a rare one with BLUSEY Huey Lewis who struck up a friendship with Phil & the boys when Hueys band CLOVER opened up for em ..

  • Thanks for posting

  • thanks so much for posting. Huey Lewis was in the band Clover & they supported Thin Lizzy on a Nth America tour 76/77 era. There's another great live version of this song that Phil did with the solo band, he uses/plays a twin neck guitar, and Jerome Rimson plays the bass guitar.I think it was CH4 The Tube TV music Show that it featured on

  • the heart of rock n roll was still beating in phil lynott!its hard to believe that they were on the same label back then[vertigo]huey even played on live and dangerous!go figure?

  • WOW...That's Huey Lewis on Harmonica.

  • Thanks for your comment and for the tip! I did not recognize him on the video. Huey Lewis also recorded the harmonica for this song on Solo in Solo album.

  • Huey was THE harmonica player of Lizzy. Live and dangerous, bad rep. etc. Classy stuff

  • "Huey was THE harmonica player of Lizzy."

He was never a member of Thin Lizzy.

  • @WillbaDissidente Huey also plays on Thin Lizzy - Live and Dangerous
