Tarp? Stimulus? We had our chance to elect Harry Browne - Twice!!! But most people are morons and have no understanding of even the simplest of economic precepts.
In 3 minutes he destroyed Keynes and the Federal Reserve. Malinvestment, resources allocated wrongly, industries that are not top priority are a result of inflationist and interventionist policies in the free market. Period. Get corporations out of government and sound money to have a productive prosperous economy. If only he could be here to educate the occupy wall street movement. :)
I can say definitively, that LP has been a vital player in my growing as a libertarian, scholar, and overall informed citizen. He introduced me to my favorite economists: Friedman and Sowell and then brings new guys all the time for the next generation of budding economists, libertarians, etc... Thanks again.
Hey, im getting my bachelors degree in economics with a financial concentration. Any good looking jobs, salary wages? I am also highly involved in the stock market.
One of my favorite libertarian thinkers of all time. I helped campaign for him when I was a kid. Heck I got thrown off the property at tax day while holding up a sign that read "Honk if you support Abolishing the IRS, Vote Harry Brown".
Besides all the amazing things about this video, wasn't it also awesome how they let somebody speak for 3 minutes without interruption, so that people have the time to actually make a case, instead of worrying about picking apart sound bites? I would love to hear the response from the others on this show... any more footage?
Harry Browne's book "The great Libertarian offer" first introduced me to Libertarians and what they believe. And was instrumental in changing my thinking about the two major parties. I would love to see a Ron Paul/Harry Browne ticket. Unfortunately Harry browne passed away in 2006.
I find it hard to grasp why so many people don't understand what this man is describing. I think I'm intelligent, but it really only took me one introductory course in economics in school to make me realize that most of what I thought about "greed" and free markets was wrong. Then some libertarian lectures completed the picture. People like Obama are MORE than smart enough to get this. How can he be so blind? How can they run into the glass-door with this government-market control over and over?
@EGarrett01 Ayn Rand always said that if things seem contradictory, check your premises. If you hold the premise that people like Obama are striving to preside over a thriving economy that maximizes the individual' standard of living, then none of his actions make sense. However, thing fit like a glove if Obama's is simply seeking to transfer private wealth (that which individuals control) to public wealth (that which politicians control). 90% of politicians are about power and little else.
It's very tempting to believe that people who disagree with us are evil or liars...the left does that a lot. I don't think it's true though. I think that Obama genuinely believes he's doing what's best for the country...it's just that for some reason he can't get past the liberal programming he received as a child, despite his intellect. Paul Krugman, despite his idiocy, wrote a good piece on this called "Ricardo's Difficult Idea," about how hard it is for people to get economics.
@EGarrett01 Hard as I try, I can find no evidence that Paul Krugman gets economics. Obama has to be either stupid or evil to explain his crony capitalistic practices and his plunging our nation into extreme debt. You decide which. However, his contempt for liberty, both economic and otherwise, cannot be ignored. The sooner he is flushed into obscurity, the better.
Krugman is some sort-of Keynesian jackass...but he understands comparative advantage and basic economic principles enough to realize how incredibly ignorant most people are. Check out that article. Re: Obama, I'm not going to fall into the trap of hating people I disagree with. Sometimes people aren't dastardly villains, they're just mistaken. In most cases, in fact, that is what's going on.
@EGarrett01 I don't hate people who are wrong. I just want them in a place where they cannot affect my life. A man is equally dead whether shot by a friend or enemy. The intentions of people are irrelevant. The results are what is important.
Actually we have had nearly 100 years of inflation. The Federal Reserve was established in 1913, and the depreciation of the dollar began immediately.
@UltraConservative298 Between 1787 and 1913, economists estimate the dollar gained about 8% in value; since 1913 (the year the Fed was founded) the dollar has lost about 93% in value. Most of the people who vote in the USA - and, I suspect elsewhere - are clueless. That's why scum is almost invariably elected!
@vince33x Very simple minds have very simple views. The value of any currency is measured in relation to other currencies. You are using the gold standard, which isn't valid anymore. All currencies have lost value against gold. But, you're too dumb to realize that because all you do is repeat what you read on right-wing and hate websites.
WTF? Who the hell is this? I mean I was only a year old at this time, but damn! How come I've never heard of this guy? Is he still alive? Has he written anything?
@UtubeMyAccountName The two most impressive books I have ever read are Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand and How I Found Freedom In An Unfree World by Harry Browne. Another favorite by Harry is "Why Government Doesn't Work."
@UtubeMyAccountName You've never heard of Harry Browne because the Jew-Dominated, Left-Wing media essentially had a Blackout on him. Very similar to what Hollywood did to the suspected Communists of the 1950s - although they all found work under different names, so that Blacklist was really phony (most of the Hollywood Ten were Jews...Hmmmm...).
@UtubeMyAccountName he ran for president twice on the libertarian ticket in 1996 and 2000. Youtube user calctube has uploaded many hours of his radio show. He is an amazing thinker and its a great loss to us all that he died in 2006.
@Mezey5 Talk about cyclic. Governments around the globe have been doing exactly the same sort of bullshit for decades, centuries even. The difference now is that as this goes on, damage accumulates, and while historically the government has 'allowed' the market to work out part of the problems, this time around the governments have not. Damage has accumulated for 20 years since the last workout and 'when' it comes time to pay the piper, it will be hell to pay.
This should have 310 million views.
