What a pathetic performance by RW. Like a small child, she uses an apology as a chance to make excuses for herself. And her excuse? "I"m from New York." Well, if she is such a tough New Yawker, why does she make excuses instead of owning up to her utterly inappropriate behavior? She claims to respect democracy. In reality, she worships wealth and power and she is working to expand corporate influence at the expense of democracy.
I was thrilled with this and completely identified with the speaker, cheered her on inside the hall. Gates' talk was embarrassing; Randi's and so many UFT members' behavior was appalling; I was further radicalized. So, thanks, everyone, for pulling more scales from my mental eyes. I get it better than I ever did before and stand in solidarity with all who tried to speak the truth in that excuse for a "democratic" event. We have much work to do.
At around 2:20 you'll hear Weingarten saying: "I believe in our democracy. I believe very much in our democracy. And I will fight for it, in every which way. Every way I know."
What duplicity, and what gall.
There's NOTHING about the way Unity caucus and its presidents run the UFT that's "democratic." Masters at controlling dissent, they play havoc with the agenda, break Robert's Rules, negotiate behind our back, misrepresent the membership, and sabotage union efforts across the city.

Dear California Teacher: thank you for standing up and letting her know her actions as president were way off base.
The video of evidence is clear.
