I think the Q5 driver may have taken the traction control off. Drivers who are used to sports cars will do that because they can predict the traction better, but for and AWD system you need traction control on if you're going to go over obstacles like that. The systems differentials tend to send power through the path of least resistance, which means as soon as you have a wheel with absolutely no traction it has no resistance. Wheel in air = no movement. Traction control would prevent that.
The difference is that the other cars have more speed up the ramp, you can see that on all the other cars also the rear wheel that's in the air is spinning, like on the audi. The wheel with the least grip get's the torque. and when 2 wheels are in the air, it's just spinning.
What they could do is hit the brake and give some gas at the same time and it would probably climb up fine.
But few of these cars hase locked diffs, meaning they all would do approxematly the same in this situation.

What areoplane7 says its wrong. When you apply full power, traction control or other system like that, try to keep traction for a few seconds and then disconnect itself. If they don't disconnect itself, probably you will have over heat brakes and nothing else. If you watch the video you see that other vehicles brakes the wheel in the air emulating a differencial lock. Audi don't brake wheel, so it lost all power (it doesn't matter 100 hp o 300 hp) by the air wheel.

Audis problem is the Torsen differential. It doesn`t work when 1 tyre is on air, 1 tyre stands on ice and when you want to drive backward. But if you want to climb a hill on snow or something no other 4x4 is better than Torsen differential, because its a Self-locking mechanism. X-drive not :))
@OttifantxD: I'm afraid the Q5 does not have any differential to lock - "Quattro" is just an AWD (all wheel drive) system and not a true 4x4 or 4WD system like a Range Rover or Toyota Land Cruiser or any other off-road vehicle.

How about putting the ESP in offroad mode? It doesn't even brake on the wheel in the air, no wonder it can't get any torque to the ground with an open rear differential, torsen center differential and zero grip at one wheel. Allow the electronics to break that wheel and you get torque at the other wheels again.

i bet who ever was driving that q5 was fired plus Audi is to blame as its their fault for using a non-limited slip non-locking rear differential, our suburban 4X4 has two auto locking non-limited slip diffs which is one of the better ways to go as you get good turning and really good traction when you need it

All we get to see at the start is the beached Q5. complete crock of shit. all the other cars hit the ramp at speed and due to approach speeds were able to get sufficient speed to just drive over the ramp. hardly equal

@RobinMr292 really ??? ever been off roading ??? im guessing not. What you dont see in this video is the approach speed of the Q5. For all we know the clown could have gone up way to slow.. beached the car and left the wheels dangling in the air.. what you do see is the other cars hit the ramp with speed and make it over the ramp with very little for the awd system to do. any one could make any video to favour any point of view if they so wish.

even a opel corsa can get over there with enough speed (and ground clearence). i guess the point of this "test" is to show off suspension and drivetrain abilities. apparently the Q5 failed this test. a real offroad car, or any car with a center differential locking system doesent need speed to get over there, piece of cake, guess they can idle over that ramp.

For all we know the idiot driver could have gone up that ramp slowly and got stuck. How do we know if the Q5 approached the ramp at the same speed as the other two 4wd??? WE DONT know. so dont make fucking assumptions the car is shit or not. We dont see how it goes up the ramp. its that simple.

I was pointing out that a good 4x4 would have a better differetial, so it doesent spinn only on the wheel that is in the air.
and yes,i know the other ones maybe had more speed, and that some might have failed too with less speed, but some of them with better differentials will do this easily, even while driving 1 km/h
this ramp is supposed to test the differential locking device, Q5 fails. it has something to do with the car.
