  • @aryayar

Do you know anything about the founding Fathers or the Monarchy?

  • @aryayar

You said that people in Northern Ireland are forced to be British subjects, I was just pointing out that you are wrong.

Most people in the UK, Ireland and the US see getting a Knighthood as an honour.

  • @aryayar

No one in Northern Ireland is forced to be a British citizen, they are entitled to take Irish citizenship if that is what they want.

Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom because a majority of people who live there want it to be part of the UK. If a majority in the north ever voted for a united Ireland, it would happen.

  • @aryayar

The Good Friday Agreement does not prevent a united Ireland, it just says that it should only come about peacefully, and by democratic means. Surly all Americans should support that?

As I said, the Agreement was supported by over 90% of the Irish people in a referendum. The vast majority would have voted for the agreement even if Ted Kennedy had told them not to.

Most oil companies in Iraq are American. Also, the word 'Royal' in Royal Dutch Shell refers to the Dutch monarchy.

  • @aryayar

Surely it is in the best interest of the US to have the UK as an ally?

Kennedy also received the Order of the Aztec Eagle from Mexico and the Order of the Merit from Chile. I think having internationally respected and honoured Senators is in the best interests of the US.

The US is not owned by the UK, most people think it is quite the reverse.

  • @aryayar

To be honoured by the head of state of an ally is not unpatriotic. Ireland, the UK and the US are all close friends now, each are beacons of democracy.

The Belfast Agreement was supported by over 90% of the Irish people in a referendum. They didn't do that just to make Sen. Kennedy happy.

  • @aryayar

In what way is it 'selling out' to allow another nation to honour a US citizen?

TONA has never been part of the US Constitution, as it was never ratified by three-fourths of the states. If it were ever made law, TONA would violate Article 15 of the UDHR, as it could leave some people nationless.

  • Edward Kennedy helped the IRA raise money in America for years to kill the loyal Northern Irish people and are army. And now are Prime Minister Gordon Brown announces a knighthood for him. That makes me sick. Gordon Brown you need to stop kissing America's ASS and start looking after your own people....

  • As a Northern Irish man and a man who has little understanding of Capitol Hill's politics I can say but one thing; Sir Edward Kennedy (Ted) was a man who believed in peace, justice and compassion. This was proven in his efforts, and indeed accomplishments, in bringing about Peace in my small country. For that alone I ask all brothers and sisters, regardless of political opinion, to join with me in saying Requieset In Pace Teddy Kennedy and thank you.

  • its a shame gordon brown wasnt this quick to stick his nose in when it came to the scottish releasing the lockerbie bomber. go fuck yourself mr prime minister! what a useless fat twat.

  • RIP Sir Edward Kennedy. Thank you for all your service to this nation.

  • sen kennedy has done so much to bring a better change to the common man , politics looks holy if u look at his work , may God give him speedy recovery.

  • Vote UKIP!

  • I think it is appropriate. Ted Kennedy has committed himself to service of his fellow man and he has done great things. He has worked hard to make sure every American has health insurance. Kudos to him.

  • The award prompted some criticism in Westminster. Lord Tebbit, the former Tory party chairman whose wife, Margaret, was badly injured by the IRA in the 1984 Brighton bomb, said that Mr Kennedys support for Sinn Fein made him an inappropriate recipient. I regard it as highly improper, he said. I cant believe that his extremely partisan attitude makes him an appropriate person to be given a knighthood.

  • ted kennedy must have seen and been around a lot of historic moments thorughout his life. i know hes not my favorite of the them but hes lived a great life of incredible highs and devistating lows. i wish he would write an honest memoir of his life and include everything. maybe release it after his death or something and include how his drinking and families deaths affected him and his opinions on oswald and sirhan and LBJ shit like that. chappiqutick idk cant spell

  • Ding dong dell,

    Ted Kennedy's soon for Hell!

    Why is this so?

    Just ask poor Mary-Jo!

  • And another drunk/murderer/adulterer being knighted by the Queen. Who are they going to knight next? The ghost of Mary Jo Kopechne? Dodi Fayed? OJ Simpson?

  • Let me get this right.

Americans don't like him getting a Knighthood because of what happened on Chappaquiddick Island.

Brits don't like him getting a Knighthood because of his connections to the IRA.

The Irish don't like him getting a Knighthood because it's an award from the British Monarchy.

    Is anyone happy for him?

  • Ha - maybe the only people that are happy are the Queen, the taxmen and the axeman.

  • How about the lady who died in his car??? I believe her name was Mary Jane Kopechny. Doesn't the Brit government have any words for her family????

  • KKK (Kennedy the Kopechny Killer) never

had a job. But the British love him. He's

kept their economy alive by consumming

their great whiskeys. His more than

ample liver is destined for a spot in the

    Smithsonian.

  • Peace is still a long way off yet.

  • What makes you say that?

  • Medeasbiggestfan What are ya a Frigen agent trying to convince the people this is ok?MY GOD don't ya comment on any other videos ya freak?THIS IS NOT OK.

  • Actually, I'm not sure this is a good thing. I just don't like some of the anti-monarchy/anti-British stuff on here.

  • why are you yanks crying over this lol, We british own you all, muhahahahahaha!!!!!

Times have changed, no one cares anymore about what the founding fathers said, deal with it!.

  • As long as the Union Jack flies on our land I will shed blood. Tiocfaidh ár lá! Tiocfaidh ár lá ! Never rest fenians, nerver rest until we are free from English terror...

  • The sad part is that's the small world of NI talking. Outside that closed violent little world people do actually get on. My neighbour is a Eire man and he's a great bloke, some of the best and funniest men I've known are Irish and there no dislike for the Irish in the British mainland. What shocked me was seeing the anti English racism in the UK Irish Post, but that aside if you think the British are your enemies you are in for a shock if you ever meet a real enemy in battle.

  • Free from English terror? How are "your people" being terrorised?

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • Right, so people deserve to die now because of what happened generations ago?

  • I didn't say "how were your people terrorized", I said "how ARE your people being terrorized by the the English"? Northern Ireland is governed by the Unionists AND Republicans (former IRA member Martin McGuinness is the Deputy First Minister) and the British Prime Minister is a Scotsman. So how are you being terrorized by the English? And no I am NOT a loyalist. I am an English Catholic whose mother is from County Leitrim.

  • How is it anti-Irish to accept a knighthood?

The United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland are great allies and close friends now. We've put the past behind us - why don't you?

  • Firstly, I'm not in England.

Britain does not block investigations of murders committed by the British Army in Ireland, ever heard of the Bloody Sunday Inquiry?

For several years Kennedy cancelled talks with Gerry Adams because of his concerns about the IRA's continued criminal activities.

The fact that you have to talk about 800 years of history says you're living in the past.

  • Comment removed

  • When I said "continued criminal activities" I was quoting Kennedy almost exactly when he was refereeing to the Northern Bank robbery and the murder of Robert McCartney.

Northern Ireland is not under occupation, it is a consistent country of the UK. It has its own Assembly which deals with most aspects of life in NI, it is recognised by the UN, EU and the Republic of Ireland. Its legality is validated by the majority of people in NI who have consistently voted for its continued existence.

  • Your lack of understanding is really terrifying. The most recent Irish Catholic killed was Stephen Carroll, a policeman killed by the continuity IRA. People like you will justify any amount of murders won't you?

  • Comment removed

  • Lets play a comparison game, shall we? Cromwell and Thatcher. Cromwell made Catholicism illegal and killed all persons who claimed to be Catholic in Ireland. Thatcher thought this was brilliant and wanted to do it again in the 80's and said so publicly. She also started the "shoot on site" policy, in which all Irish who were suspected of being anti-British were shot and killed ..NO trial ..just shot and killed whenever the police felt it appropriate.

  • Comment removed

  • And when did I say that was right?

  • Again, when did I say that was right? Thatcher's fury at the death at Airey Neave and the Brighton bombings meant the peace process was NEVER going to get anywhere until she left number ten. And it didn't.

  • When have I lied on here? Stephen Carroll was murdered BY Irish Catholics!! And unlike you I condemn all murders - loyalist and republican!

  • Comment removed

  • Are you kidding me? I am as Irish as you get and I would never become a subject to the crown... Ireland and England are not allies and will never be allies as long as the Union Jack flies in the six counties.

  • The Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom are close friends and allies, in what way are we not?

Northern Ireland will remain part of the UK for as long as a majority of people in Northern Ireland vote for to remain part of the UK. Both the UK and the Republic agreed to this.

  • They don't because it gives them an excuse to be all hate filled and violent.

  • So another American politician is going to be an honorary knight of the british g*d d*mn crown. The same monarchy that enslaved half a known world and until 50 years ago built their empire ont he cheap labor of their blood. Phenomenally awesome - these elitists are disgusting.

  • Your forefathers fought against the policies of an elected Parliament and Prime Minister, the monarch has had virtually no power whatsoever since 1689.

As for the Empire, slavery was abolished peacefully in the British Empire a full 30 years before the emancipation proclamation causing a civil war in the United States.

  • Thomas Jefferson and his contemporaries referred to King George III as a tyrant, so I'm afraid your statement does not hold up to historical fact.

  • The policy of taxation without representation may have been tyrannical, but the King had nothing to do with it. Jefferson was using spin to get his point across. In reality it was the policies of the elected Parliament and Prime Minister which the colonists rebelled against.

  • Whoa Spice and Medeas!!

I was not taking a shot at the people of the isles so to speak. I was making of point of not aggrandizing elitism, colonialism and a monarchy that was harmful to the world.

    In regard to your statement

I know the American conscience may seem dead, but it has always been this way with the US and the UK. The governments performed heinous crimes against entire nations and peoples and the people can deflect blame by saying to themselves it wasn't them it was their government.

  • My point was that the crown didn't enslave people during the Empire as the monarchy hasn't had any power since 1689.

  • Colonialism began under the monarchy when the crown saw the spoils of Spain and Portugal my friend.

  • The British Empire and colonialism are not the same thing.

  • I didn't say they were the same thing did I. Colonialism was activity taken by the British Empire and the way their methods were and the UK is still benefiting from the exploitation of their former subjects. The UK and the US have probably the most diabolical histories in the world in regard to human rights violation, destruction/loss of culture and exploitation of indigenous natural resources.

  • I thought your point was that American politicians shouldn't accept honorary knighthoods from the Queen because of the actions of the monarchy during the time of the Empire. My point was that the monarchy didn't have any power during the entire existence of the Empire.

  • See Previous Post - "I was making of point of not aggrandizing elitism, colonialism and a monarchy that was harmful to the world."

  • Obviously, elitism and colonialism are harmful to the world. How is a powerless monarchy?

  • The British Monarchy represents everything bad about western civilization (elitism, divine right, exploitation of the defenseless). You could argue their is no better representative of elitism than a monarchy.

The current powerless crown symbolizes everything that every common born man should hate. It should not be remembered fondly. A fool allows their history be rewritten and the lessons forgotten.

  • I judge people and institutions based on what they do, not on what they supposedly represent.

  • "British Monarchy represents everything bad about western civilization "

Nope your wrong, the US goverment represents everything bad about western civlization, doesnt this vid prove hahaha?

You have the most corrupt goverment in the world, you were all brainwashed as children. there is no american dream, get your heads out your asses.

  • US is do different, don't kind yourself. What about US jobs and production now in the third world and countless wars post 1945? Don't throw stones from your glasshouse Mr!

  • Spice - I did not project this statement correctly. My statement wasn't anti British, it was anti elitist statement only. I believe you are wrong I believe that the citizens of the US and the UK need to start throwing stones "at" our houses if our houses are going to continue to treat our world and fellow inhabitants as garbage and lesser than we are.

  • How very pathetic.

  • Very True!!

Is this the same american that coward away from a car crash that killed a woman!!!

Courage? No this man is not

  • Well if it were not for Kennedy that girl in the car with him may be a great-grandmother by now.

    Yeah what a great guy.

  • Is there any respect for the US Constitution? Article I, Section 9!!!

  • No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince or foreign State. He can accept if the Congress agreed.

  • And at this point congress is the same socialist that brown is.

  • It's also an "honorary" knighthood, not an actual title of nobility.

  • What an insult to all knights around the world;)

  • the elite's patting each other on their back again.

  • it's an honorary knighthood, not a knighthood as he is american and can't have such a title, even though it was announced as honorary, that sure didn't stop the world class know it alls for spitting out their dribble ha, anyway i could care less about kennedy or his politics (i don't live in boston or palm beach) but just to be part of more meaningless dribble on the internet, that was my goal :D

    jimmy

  • What an INSULT to the American people! NO SENATOR CAN BE KNIGHTED by a foreign government.

But after all a Kennedy is part of the ruling class and far above the law.

  • Article I, Section 9:

No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince or foreign State.

  • Ronald Reagan was granted an honorary knighthood, no one said he should resign as President.

The Constitution wasn't talking about honorific titles, it meant King, Queens, Princes etc. shouldn't hold power over the US.

  • Really! I am more worried about paying my morgage than if Edward Kennedy is getting some stupid honorary (which means not real) title from the Queen. The man is sick and if he makes it through the next year or so it will be a miracle. So save the bill of rights and constitutional lesson.

  • Oh My God I thought this was a Saturday Night Live skit.

    Ted Kennedy...What a joke!

  • They're jealous to hell that they aren't going to be knights.

  • Gordon Brown.. HA. I've lost all respect for this guy..

  • Do the Brits, who loved Di soo much, realize they just knighted a man who left a woman to die in a car wreck he caused?!

  • This sickens me as an American and embarrasses me for the country I live in, although I have yet to meet a Scot that would let anyone call them a Brit.

The Queen still thinks she rules up here and all the while PM Brown is used for calling the shots from Brussels at EU HQ. It's getting hard to work up the embarrassment part. Being sickened by Teddy Kennedy has always been easy.

  • "Yet to meet a Scot that would let anyone call them a Brit" What about Brown? He doesn't let anyone call themselves anything OTHER than British! Which pisses off both the English and the Scots.

  • lol

    understood!

  • Yes we do. And we hate it.

  • Look at Nancy Pelosi's face at 0:57, she looks so excited!

  • She looks like that a lot...I think they tightened her up too much on the last face lift!
